shangy happened to comment that if he had a feminist community, he'd make her the president of it.

To quote Sarah Bunting's fabulous essay, "If you believe in, support, look fondly on, hope for, and/or work towards equality of the sexes, you are a feminist. Yes, you are." This includespopelizbet. It includes shangy. It can include you.
LJ has other comms that have responded tofeminist's policies by creating group names not containing the term "feminism" or qualifying themselves as "not crazy like those other feminists". shangy_feminism rejects this tactic as legitimizing the smear job on feminism in general. We are feminists, shangy-style...meaning that everyone gets to be in the sandbox, as long as they can play nicely and not kick sand. Members of feminist, feminots, feminist_fatale and any other feminist community on LJ are welcome here.
This does not mean there will be no disagreement here. This does not mean that your ideas are not open to discussion and criticism. But here we are not going to check that you're reading the right things before we let you in the door; we'll just let you in and see if you can behave yourself, instead.

The communication was respectful, as was their reply, in which they asked for her LJ username because they have a policy of automatically denying membership until people come back and ask again. popelizbet didn't bother, because the politics of that worried her more than having had her journal looked over and rejected as not quite feminist enough. Still, she bears feminist no ill will.
