This is an amazing achievement, and I really don't want to whine here, but some of us don't have Ipods! The title of the post really should be "Podbook" before we get all excited :(

I am diligently finding an M4b to MP3 converter... but you know, I was really excited!

You don't need an iPod to play m4a or m4b files. They're all MPEG Layer files, just like mp3s. They're just newer codecs is all.
