Well, okay, Richmond if you wanna be completely accurate, but you know what I mean...

“I was inspired by my lifelong appreciation for ‘bad guys,’ and a deep-seeded disdain for heroes.”

This quote is from Joseph Mallozzi in an article on Gateworld that discusses his foray into prose writing. He wrote a short story called "Downfall" about a superhero in a newly publish anthology called "Masked".

"...a deep-seeded disdain for heroes." Now do you wonder why the character of Colonel Sheppard never was given the development that it should have been given. For that matter, why Atlantis or it's actors were never given the promotion and publicity we have seen with Universe. Also, I don't know if anyone else shares my perception that when Jack O'Neill was promoted to general that he was given dialog to make him appear to be more clueless than he had ever been on the show. We know the character of O'Neill wasn't dumb, he just like to hide behind that persona.

As I am certain most, if not all of you know, Mallozzi and Brad Wright did not create the Stargate storyline, it was created by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich (the pair who also did Independence Day) and they sold the franchise rights to MGM. In fact Mallozzi, wasn't part of the initial Showtime series to my recollection.

I suppose that I still harbor deep-seated anger at the producers for canceling Atlantis and SG-1 to bring us a show that to me, doesn't embody the Stargate spirit. I don't want to malign Universe because I do respect the fans of the show. It is simply too angst ridden and too much the 'anti-hero' for me. But if someone has a life-long love of the bad guy and a deep-seeded disdain of the hero, you have to wonder what drove Atlantis off the air.

I certainly know where I would classify Mallozzi...he will never be a hero.

(Please note, this is a personal rant based on my disdain for a certain producer.)
