Welcome the 2009 Stargate Atlantis Gen Ficathon.
Rules & Deadlines
1. Signups will begin Sunday, Feb. 1, 2009 and close Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009 at midnight AKDT. All stories need to be turned in to the mods by April 20, 2009 unless you've requested an extension. (This is also the no-fault drop-out deadline; your prompt will be assigned to a pinch hitter.) Anonymous posting will begin on May 1, with authors revealed at the end after a round of guessing.
2. Each writer will request a genre from the following when they sign up. (Please include a back-up genre as second choice, in case the mod(s) can't assign everyone to their preferred genre.) Finished stories are going to be posted in the following order:
Monday: Friendship
Tuesday: Angst
Wednesday: Team
Thursday: Humor
Friday: Action/adventure
Saturday: AU
Sunday: Supporting Character Appreciation Day
3. In addition to the genre, which you'll choose, you will be randomly assigned a prompt. For example, you might choose to write Angst, and your prompt will be "Purple Rain". Lucky you! Unlike last year, when several people wrote each prompt, this year every writer will have their own unique prompt.
4. Please follow the formatting guidelines.
5. All stories must be gen. For purposes of the ficathon, gen is defined as "established canon pairings only, and only if not the focus of the story".
6. Stories should be at least 2000 words long (though *ahem* your mods are not checking). There is no upper word limit; you can write an epic if you can finish it by the deadline!
A note on genre: It's up to each writer how they interpret their genre -- one person might do "humor" as a crackfic, another as a satire, another as a black comedy. Stories written for "Supporting Character Appreciation Day" should have some sort of key role for a character who is not one of the current or former contract cast, i.e. not one of the people on the theme song. (Ford counts as a supporting character for these purposes.)
