Though I have no independent confirmation, I find all too plausible the report I've seen on the SMOFS list of the death of Nashville fan Khen (Ken) Moore.

The recent deaths reported here started me wondering. What is (or was) the cut-off point for Anticipation's Memorial List?

And on a slightly related note, does anyone know who will be in charge of the Memorial List for Aussiecon 4, and does he/she/they know about this community?

Actress, in many, many genre shows over the last 20 years, but probably best-known as Elosha in Battlestar Galactica (mostly seen in the first two years of the show).

Excellent obit here: http://www.theprovince.com/Entertainment/remarkable+talent+marked+woman+distinction/1734176/story.html

I never thought I would be posting here twice in the same day.

As I'm guessing most of you have already read/heard/seen, Michael Jackson died today at the age of 50. According to what I've seen so far, COD was a heart attack.

His most notable genre credit (maybe his only one) was the music video to his song "Thriller."

As I am sure many have you have already seen, Farrah Fawcett died today from the cancer she had been battling for a number of years. While she is of course best known for her role on Charlie's Angels, she did have a few genre credits, including guest appearances on The Six Million Dollar Man and the movie Saturn 3.

Died May 28.

Producer whose work included "Tom Corbett, Space Cadet," the first two "Planet of the Apes" films, and "Tales of Tomorrow."

I'm guessing at this point that most of you have already heard that David Carradine was found dead in a hotel room in Bangkok. His credits include roles on Charmed and the movie Death Race 2000, so is this enough to merit his inclusion in the Memorial List for Anticipation?

Author David Eddings (b.1931) died on June 2. Eddings began publishing fantasy in 1982 with the Pawn of Prophecy, first in his Belgariad series. He followed up with numerous novels examining the same world, often from points of view of different characters who had been previously introduced. In the mid-90s, his books began to acknowledge his wife, Leigh Eddings, as an active collaborator.

I saw this posted on [info]filkertom's LJ, among others, within the past hour. Dave Arneson, one of the creators of Dungeons & Dragons, died last night at the age of 61. The obituary on SciFiWire states that he had been battling cancer for some time.

Andy Hallett, who played Lorne (aka "The Host" of the karaoke bar) in Angel has passed away at the age of 33.

Winnipeg First Fandomite Chester Cuthbert died on March 20, 2009. He was 96 years old.

File 770 report from Randy Reichardt.

And Chester's obituary.

I was just as annoyed by a certain few entries posted in the past week or so. It may have taken me a little while to get around to it, but I have deleted those entries, and I reported them as spam.

I will try to be a little quicker in dealing with future occurrences -- and no quoting Yoda at me, thank you very much!

I want anyone to be able to post relevant information to this community, but if any of you have suggestions to prevent something like this from happening again, feel free to leave comments.

I read in Comic Shop News yesterday that John Carbonaro died recently at the age of 58. In the 1980s, he purchased the rights to T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents, and tried to revive that comic title several times. Unfortunately, all of those revival attempts were short-lived.

By now, I'm certain that you have heard that actress Natasha Richardson died yesterday following a skiing accident. One obituary listed among her credits The Handmaid's Tale. My question is, would this be enough to merit her inclusion in the Memorial List for Anticipation?

As I noted several months ago, the last name to make it on the Denvention In Memoriam list was Algis Budrys.

My complete list of 2008 deaths is now on-line at SF Site

Joel Zakem reports hearing from several people at ConFusion that fan artist Randy Bathurst has died. One of the sources of the information was Mike Glicksohn; I'm confident it is accurate, alas.

Star of Fantasy Island and Khan in Star Trek.

I just saw this on a couple of other LJs. Patrick McGoohan, probably best known as The Prisoner, died yesterday at the age of 80. No cause of death has been given, and the obituaries I have read only state that he died after "a short illness."

UK fan Ewan Chrystal passed away on 4 Jan 09. Whilst he had had some health problems, his death was unexpected. A tribute from Colin Harris & Vince Docherty, 2005 Worldcon Co-Chairs, can be found here.

Ewan's entry at the Fan Gallery can be found here.

Ewan is best known outside the UK as the Fixed Exhibits Head for Interaction, but within the UK he had been a stalwart of the anime / anime con World for many years, serving on a large number of committees including
Minamicon.

Bob Wilkins, who hosted "Creature Features" on Northern California television stations and was an important influence on quite a few fans in this region, died January 7, 2009 after suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.

Singer and actress Eartha Kitt died today of complications from colon cancer. She was 81. While probably best known for her 1953 song "Santa Baby," her contributions to the genre were as one of three actresses to portray Catwoman in the 1960s version of Batman, and as the voice of Yzma in The Emporer's New Groove and its various sequels.

The mainstream press is reporting the death of Majel Barrett, for example at <http://www.accesshollywood.com/star-trek-creators-widow-passes-away_article_12706>.

As I am sure most of you have already heard, pinup queen Bettie Page died on December 11, after suffering a heart attack a few days earlier.

My question is this: Should she be included in the memorial list?

While she may not have contributed directly to the genre, she was the source of inspiration to a number of artists, among them the late Dave Stevens. Is that enough to merit her inclusion on the list?

Forry turned 92 on Monday, November 25, less than a month after erroneously being declared dead by several websites. Today, the AP announced that Forry left to attend Eternalcon.

Mike Moorcock told Peter Weston that illustrator, comic artist and fantasy historian Jim Cawthorn died yesterday after going into the hospital for routine tests.

He was active in British fandom dating back to the late 1950s. There are some lovely examples of his art in these ERB covers. (See later issues on subsequent pages as well.

The latest word is that he's not dead yet.

I am so sorry for helping to spread this around. I've updated Dead People Server too.

All I can say is, I hope Forry still has his sense of humor.

I saw this on SciFiWire (as well as a couple of other places) yesterday. Michael Crichton died Tuesday at the age of 66. According to the SciFiWire story, he had been battling cancer for some time, and presumably that was the cause of death.

I saw this mention in Comic Shop News a few weeks ago. Jack Kamen, one of the artists for EC Comic in the 1950s, died on August 5 from complications related to cancer. He was 88.

I just saw this item posted by [info]filkertom. Neal Hefti, the jazz musician and composer who wrote the theme for the 1960s Batman TV series, died on October 11. He was 85. I have been unable to find a cause of death in any of the obituaries online.

This just appeared on SFF-NET Obituaries.

Stunning and depressing news. While I haven't seen Brian in a while, we hung out frequently at Boskones and Worldcons in the '80s and '90s. Damn.

Forwarding a message posted 9/14:

Joan Winston died Thursday, apparently in her sleep, avoiding a
descent into the Altzheimers which had taken her parents and of which
she was showing the early stages (when she told the nursing home
staff where she was staying that she had written three published
books and knew the original Star Trek cast, they thought it was the
Altzheimers. It was only when her friends found out where she was,
and started to visit her, and backed up the stories, that the nursing
home realized what a star-studded life she had led!)

The funeral is Sunday morning (9/14) at 9:30 at the Plaza Jewish
Funeral home on 91st and Amsterdam in NYC. Joanie was 77.

Voiceover artist Don LaFontaine has died. Although LaFontaine has appeared in a handful of commercials and films, he most often only did voice work, most notably for movie trailers. If you think of a voice saying, "In a world where..." chances are you're hearing LaFontaine's voice.

Ken Campbell (b.1941) died on August 31. Campbell formed the Science Fiction Theatre of Liverpool in 1976 and adapted the Illuminatus Trilogy and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy for the stage. Campbell also appeared in the radio series of “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” as Poodoo. In the early 1970s, he performed with Bob Hoskins and Sylvester McCoy. In 1987, he auditioned for the role of the Seventh Doctor, losing out to McCoy.

BBC Producer Geoffrey Perkins (b.1953) died in a car accident on August 29. Julius J. Carry III died of pancreatic cancer on August 19. Carry was born in Chicago in 1952 and has been appearing in television and films since he was 27. In "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." he played Lord Bowler, a bounty hunter who started as Brisco's rival and eventually became Brisco's friend.

10/15/1931 - 7/26/2008 He ran the Games Club of Maryland Westminster branch, and he (along with his wife, back when he was married) were regular Balticon attendees.

And he was my friend. It was always nice to go to a community event and see him in his "Tooky the Clown" persona.
