Intelligent Discussions About our Favorite Books |
|
| Name: | The Speculative Fiction Book Discussion Club | |
| About: | Disucssion for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams will begin on October 1, 2006. This community is dedicated to discussing books that fall under the genre "speculative fiction." This includes fantasy, science fiction, horror, and other similar genres. We will discuss one novel every month, and one short story every week. Participation is not required, but is highly recomended. This is a serious community and we will (mostly) discuss serious books. Some of them you may have read in high school and hated, but you might find you enjoy the book in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Every month I will post the title and author of the next book along with some discussion questions for the previous book, and put it to a vote for the book after that one. It is by no means necessary to stick with the questions I post, and very much okay for the discussion to go off in entirely different directions. When you first join, I encourage you to make an introductory post. Tell us a little about yourself: your favorite authors and books, why you like SF, other interests, etc. Just a few rules: 1. This is a rule in almost every community: don't be an ass. This is a place for civil duscussion. Disagreement and debate are okay and encouraged, but don't let it get out of hand. 2. Don't post off topic. I will post instigating the discussions, and anyone is free to say what they want in the comments. Allowed posts: introductions; questions, comments, and suggestions regarding the community; well-thought-out and thourough reviews of books we haven't already discussed. If you're not sure if you can post something, e-mail me first. I expect this to be a relatively low-post community, with most posts being made by me. 3. No color, different sizes, or interesting fonts. Bold, underline, and italics are perfectly okay.
