Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

President's Report: We scheduled the room for the Halloween event. That’s all I have to say for now.

Vice President's Report: Keep sweeping and taking out the garbage. Don’t forget to clean up your stuff.

Treasurer's Report: Allocations are mostly handed in, though we have had issues with ResourceMate. I’m still revising the budget spreadsheet and I’ll be e-mailing it to-night.

Secretary's Report: I am intimidated by the Sonic Screwdriver.

Librarian's Report: I still need people to fill out shiftholder schedules. I need to adjust my last allocation, since it is $75 to renew ResourceMate and not $50 like we previously thought. This is Kingbird’s final betrayal.

Motion to hate Kingbird! Motion acclimated.

Sam: We just got a call from Rob Anders and he wants to donate $2000 of first edition hardcovers to us. We’ll need people to help sort them.

AC: All hail Orange, great and powerful! All my ACs now have their keys.

Orange has brought many gifts: the first season of “The Twilight Zone,” “The Amityville Horror” collection (which will be our next movie night, Wednesday at 1:00 PM), 250 public domain movies (including “Santa Clause Conquers the Martians”), the complete “Monty Python’s Flying Circus,” the first season of “The Outer Limits,” the first season of “Tales from the Crypt,” “Candy Stripers,” and “Death Tunnel.”

We now have donation stickers that will be going on all of the DVDs: if you have donated, please put your name in the appropriate place in Log (or contact Orange) so stickers with your name can be made.

Unfortunately, we are missing our “Braveheart” DVD, if you find it or know where it is, please return it.

We have secured the auditorium in the Union (room 123) for the Halloween Party. We have decided to show “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” and we’re still debating our second movie, but we’re thinking of “The Werewolf of Washington.” The event will start at 7:00 PM and will go to either 11:00 or 11:30. We will be giving out candy, showing those movies, and having both a trivia and costume contest.

Historian (Lisa): *tells a story of Setsu, the Enforcer* We would love it – HINT HINT, WINK WINK – if she showed up to the 40th. Historian’s report will now contain one random page of Log.

Committees
PR: We have flyers advertising the upcoming movie night/open house on Wednesday. We need help putting them up; usual rules apply. Start telling people about the Halloween event.

Old Business
Lisa: JC put a calendar up on the website which you can all post events to. Check it out.

Roman: Motion to adjust my original allocation from $50 to $75 to ResourceMate. Acclimated.

Jackie: CLEAN.

New Business
Orange: I would like to allocate $100 to BJs for candy for the Halloween event. Acclimated.

Announcements
Lisa: Hey, everyone! Did you know that Roman got a new job and is now a member of the Geek Squad?

Roman: Last week on “Heroes,” Gabriel Grey was making waffles. How will they top that this week? Tune in at 9:00!

Meeting closed at 7:35 PM

Bah. This is annoying. Mondays are usually late days for me since I need to catch up from not being in the office for 3 days. I no longer have phone meetings every monday night, but 7pm is still pretty early for me to leave the office and get to SB.

I am going to plan on being at the 4m next monday, as right now it seems my schedule for next monday is wide open once the afternoon hits.

Calendar update

I've put the new sf4m.org/calendar setup through a few bug fixes. Everybody who has joined the regular part of the website before Tuesday afternoon should be able to log into the calendar with the same password (thanks to Oscar for pointing out the problem there) and add events. It's unmoderated at the moment, but I have infinite trust in all Forumites, so it will probably not be abused.

Right now, I have set up categories "Meetings", "Parties" and "Conventions". They should be self-explanatory, and I'm hoping for ideas for more categories which do not fit the ones that are already there. As a clarification, "Parties" currently refers to both events that the Forum has organized and regular parties that happen to involve Forumites (and to which Forumites are blanket invited). If I can think of a good word, I might put that former group into a newer category.

The calendar is pretty configurable, so I can probably make it look more like the rest of the website given time and lack of sloth. The settings are fairly comprehensive, and the code looks pretty easy to read and modify, so let me know if you guys have any good ideas for changes to make, especially aesthetic ones.

And add events. I desperately want to know when there are tv nights or movie marathons or anything else. Also, somebody tell me why there's no meeting on the 20th. The reason is probably incredibly obvious.

Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

President's Report: I have the intent to get the Halloween thing under way. Roman and I will be pestering USG officers until we get to meet our advisor. Roman finally brought in the vouchers (yaaaaay!).

Vice President's Report: I got a NERF gun! Eating in the Forum is a privilege: clean up after yourself. Throw out your trash and make sure to replace the lid so the room doesn't end up smelling bad. CLEAN!

Treasurer's Report: The budget hearing is on Wednesday, Orange will be coming with me. Hurray for vouchers!

Secretary's Report: Hi!

Librarian's Report: Ian speaking for Roman: I promote myself to head of Community Service! And I vow under pain of castration to never wait more than a week when handing back my allocations. (Julia: THANK YOU, GOD!). Sam: A lot of work needs to be done in the library. Lisa and Julia are essentially the only one who have been doing work. Even if you aren't on shift, please try to help clean up the library so we can start organising stuff. Lisa: I've been filled with Wench Rage and I'm angry at you all! I'm happy that some people have been checking out books for other people. ... but you're all college students, respect the alphabet! And know the difference between a first and a last name. Jackie: The computers are working now. Don't eat by them. And if you see Roman breaking his own rule and eating over by the computer... smack him in the head.

Aaron: The computer in the library is getting fixed. I'm going to talk to Niels about it.

JC: I put a calendar on the Forum website. I need a list of people's usernames who should have permission to post events.

Vest Paul: The tech list has now been recovered. It was in my pocket all along. The vest has kept it hidden from me.

AC (Ian): I had reason to believe Orange was announcing a movie night, but don't quote me on that.

Sub AC For Life: Everything is accounted for. The alphabet is not being respected. "Bram Stoker's Dracula" goes with the B's. Stop annoying me!

Historian (Jackie): Once there was a lot of crap in the hallway and Jackie called property control and then there wasn't anymore.

Committees
PR: (Lisa) Once we have an actual Halloween plan we'll be making flyers. Tell friends about it.

Community Service: "Hi, I'm run by Roman now!"

Fundraising: *dancing*

Old Business
Jackie: CLEAN!

Ian: Various older Forumites have been saying that it might be beneficial to have the 40th during I-CON. I'm not happy with this idea, but I want to get a feel for how Old Forumites feel about it. I-CON is not on Stony Brook campus this year (it's in Brentwood). How close to I-CON do you want the 40th to be? Make complaints and suggestions to the officers, or at the Forum LiveJournal, or at the message board on the Forum website.

If anyone is interested in getting involved with the 40th Committee contact Hoskie, Ian, or Aaron.

Lisa: (displays a notebook) This is Log 84. Log needs to be filled. Funny things are said all the time; write in it!

New Business
Aaron: I-CON has a new website. Go take a look, it's awesome. Thanks to Lee Wilbur, I-CON's new IT director. www.iconsf.org

Onion: I'm blond!

Announcements
AA: I HATE STITCHING!

Jackie: That bookshelf is made of wood. Wood makes splinters. Ow.

Sam: I'm going to kill Roman!

Meeting closed at 7:34 PM

I added a calendaring app to sf4m.org. It seems pretty comprehensive and user-friendly. If you go to the home page, you'll see that there's a (currently very, very short) list of upcoming Forum-related events on the right side, above the randomly generated photo.

I'll need a list of usernames of people who should be able to add events to the Forum calendar. With luck, I'll be able to tie it into the accounts already on the website soon enough. Maybe I'll chat about it with officers at tonight's meeting, eh?

(there is a meeting tonight, right? correct me if there's not, because that's the lone entry on the calendar right now. :P )

If anyone knows where I can get a pair of inexpensive welding goggles and white boots, it would help me out a lot.
Meeting called to order at 6:58 PM

President's Report: Heroes is on at 9:00, I want to keep this meeting brief. Attempts on the budget request are still being worked out. Julia and I will hopefully have a finalised itinerary by to-morrow or Wednesday. In case you didn't know from last semester, the CS position no longer exists. CS has been gobbled up by its parent The Library. The Librarian appoints people to help with the computers. Currently those people are JC, Aaron, and Niels. Orange has nothing to do with the media equipment in the lounge. If there is a complaint, you go to Roman. In theory, you can go to JC, Aaron, or Niels directly. Hopefully we will have internet by the end of this week.

Vice President's Report: Thank you to anybody who has taken out the trash this week (especially AA). If you bring trays in here, bring them back to the SAC when you're done; I don't want to have to deal with them. Make sure you throw out your trash. Boba says, "Clean!" He's depressed because people aren't cleaning.

Treasurer's Report: See President's report.

Secretary's Report: Hi, everybody!
Everybody: Hi, Dr. Nick!

AC Monkey: AC monkey saaaad. We will not have more than two laptops on at the same time. This is not an internet café! The gaming table (the table nearest the wall) and the eating table are separate. It is the job of the ACs to keep things playing, if people are in here playing Magic and other people sitting around looking bored, put something on.

Sub AC for Life: Everything in the cabinet is accounted for and in order. I got Batman: Mask of the Phantasm in. Also the 2004 Punisher movie and Dick Tracy.

Librarian's report: Librarian did work! Librarian printed out shiftholder schedules. Come in to the library and fill one out if you are interested. Librarian didn't do work! I don't have the vouchers for Julia yet. My allocation is made, it just isn't finalised yet. COME TO ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE COMPUTERS OR INTERNET.

Wench report: Thanks to Anthony for getting us a shelf. Thanks to Matt, Howie, Anthony, Johnny Quest, and Lisa for bringing it down. Thanks to Roman, Lukas, Orange, Anthony, and Howie for helping to move the shelf to-day. Now that we have a new shelf we're going to be shifting a lot of books. Hopefully, series will only take up one wall. The reference section will be moving down and whatever extra space we end up with (keep in mind the pulps are going away), we're going to be creating our very first Children's Section (which will in turn create more space in the library). Older Forumites, feel free to bring your children down after next semester!

Historian (Victor): *tells a story about the scale mapping of the tunnel system*

Committees
PR: We need help putting up signs around campus advertising the Forum. Do not put them on glass, do not put them in the SAC or in the Union (you need special permission for that), you can put them on most bulletin boards. Thanks to Howie, Roman, Lukas, Vest Paul, Ian (for showing up five minutes at the end), Jackie, Jen, and anyone else who helped out at the Involvement Fair.

Community Service: Donations will be going to Sachem Library very soon.

Fundraising: *dancing*

Old Business
- CLEAN!

Orange: We're in the process of planning the Halloween event. New this year will be a trivia contest; it will be Jeopardy style and emceed by Roman.

Roman: I want to see if I can contact McFarlane Toys to see if they'd be willing to donate something we can give away as first prize. I am still in the process of making questions for the trivia game, so if you want to help with that, contact me.

New Business

- THERE WILL BE NO MEETING NEXT WEEK DUE TO ROSH HA'SHANNAH.

Announcements
Ian: I'm going to be running very hectic schedule. I may seem short tempered and things that ordinary wouldn't bother me that much will anger me. If you make me angry... I'm going to kill you. *head tilts to 90°*

Orange: MORTAL COMBAT!

Roman: Heroes to-night at 9:00 PM!

Meeting closed at 7:25 PM

My man La Monica here at Newsday is giving away Star Wars toys for free to anyone who can tell him their favorite Star Wars character and why.
Events at my House

Ok, so in celebration of having my house to myself, I will be having a few events.

Sunday 9/28: BBQ. starting at about 3pm. I wont have too much in the way of food to BBQ or things to drink, so please bring whatever. This will be pretty laid back, so if people want to bring games or stuff to watch, that will be cool.

Friday 10/3: Party. Starting about 6pm, but you can come as early as 4pm if you want to hang out/help set up. Please bring something for the party..food, booze, non-booze drink, etc. The BBQ and oven/stove will be available if needed. Since this is an actual party, so no tv-show watching hopefully will be going on. We will probably wrap up the party around 1am or so, since I have to get up somewhat early on saturday to pick up my parents.

mon 9/29, tues 9/30, wed 10/1 nights : after about 6pm each night I will be available to have people come over. We can make a diner run (like to Forum Diner on monday!), watch shows/movies, play video games, play DDR, etc. Please let me know if you are coming beforehand, as I may be home earlier or later than 6pm.

As with all my events, if I know you, your invited. You may disseminate this to people I know. Try to RSVP to these things if you can. If you want to bring people you think I do not know, just let me know who it is before hand.

I have some crash space for people. 3 or 4 in beds, and the same amount in couches.

If you need my address/directions, call, IM, or e-mail me.

Meeting Notes: September 15th 2008

Meeting called to order at 6:58 PM

President's Report: To those of you online who don't come to meetings, we need you to come to meetings (especially when we want to pass motions). In theory, we can now allocate! The money we allocated for during the last meeting should be going through to-night. This Wednesday (September 17th) is the Involvement Fair, you should all come and help out.

Vice President: The building manager told us that she's not happy with the all the property control stuff. Also, the garbage can needs to be emptied more regularly. We'll probably be keeping the garbage can inside the lounge from now on. Clean, dammit.

Treasurer's Report: The budget has not been decided yet.

Secretary's Report: I apologise for not posting the minutes to the Yahoo group more promptly. Thanks to The Jim for posting them for me. I'll be posting them there from now on. I still don't have access to post them to sf4m.org, so anyone who is able to post them there, please post them for me.

Librarian's Report: I found prices for just about everything on the Request List. Some books will still need to be found from sources other than Amazon.com. I'm going to start working on the shiftholder schedule as soon as I have enough people interested.

Props to Lukas and to AA for finishing Aakin's donation. Aakin donated a total of 621 books. Out of those, 542 were genre and 249 were not tribbles! We'll be handing out a bunch of the tribbles during the Involvement Fair.

Anyone who has the current admin password (for the Macs in the lounge), give it to Roman. Various CS people (especially Neils), Orange and Sam have cookies for you if you come and help us with our computers (we currently have no internet).

AC Report: Yay May for donating The 10th Kingdom. Yay Roman for regaining his key. Yay Anthony for rejoining the mighty AC Army. Boo Orange for forgetting to post about the reference section, she'll fix it soon. Come to the Involvement Fair this Wednesday (during campus lifetime), wear your Forum shirt if you have one.

Sub AC For Life: Everything is still there. I added Dick Tracy and the extended cut of The Punisher. And we'll be getting Batman: Mask of the Phantasm soon.

Historian: *Victor tells a story about rolling Bill down a hill in a barrel*

Committees
PR: I will be at the Involvement Fair the entire time, so I will know who comes and who doesn't. We would appreciate anyone who has extra printing allowance to help us out.

Old Business
- CLEAN!

- The chalk board is not for curse words!

New Business
Lisa: During the Involvement Fair; try minimize Magic playing, keep the TV on, and try to keep the Forum as welcoming as possible for new people.

Roman: I would like to allocate $50 to the Resource Mate program to renew our license until next September. Seconded. Acclimated.

I would like to allocate no more than $210 to Amazon.com. Seconded. Acclimated.
Some books that are in this allocation - The Looking Glass Wars, Fables vol. 10, all of the Nightwatch series that is available in English, the remainder of the Twilight series, some more Spider Robinson books, and a surprise book that I want to start doing dramatic readings from every week.

Ian: There are those of you who have contacts to various old Forumites - among them, Jim Frenkel - we the E-Board (particularly Hoskie, our secretary) would like to also have this contact information. We would very much like to have our founding fathers and mothers at the 40th celebration. Don't say you'll just do it yourself, PLEASE GIVE US THE CONTACT INFORMATION. If you feel like contacting them yourself as well, feel free to do so.

Announcements
Ian: Fringe sucked. I don't care what Fox is trying to sell to us.
Roman: Rebuttal!

Everyone: Happy Birthday, Drow!

AA: Heroes premiers next week!

Meeting closed at 7:36 PM

Meeting called to order at 6:59 PM

President's Report: We're not officially a club yet, but the form has been sent in. Foolish you for electing me! Props to Sam for successfully running through every episode of Buffy. Announcement for new people, the JAM Can is for recyclables (i.e. cans and bottles), do not put non-recyclables in JAM Can.

Vice President's Report: I don't have a gun, I have a brick and I'm not afraid to use it. The Forum is dirty, I'll be getting a new mop head. I'd like to have it clean by the 17th, which is the Involvement Fair. We'll be cleaning on Friday. Water for mopping comes from the bathroom, not the café.

Treasurer Monkey: Ian and I went to USG to get a budget reallocation; we're trying to get more money. The form is due on the 26th.

Secretary's Report: Yeah... I got nothin'.

Librarian's Report: Aakin Patel brought in his donation, we have about 6 - 8 Orange of books. Credit to Lukas for working in the library while the rest of us bums were in the lounge watching Clone High. Kudos to Sam and Anthony as well. Let's start filling out shiftholder requests, they will probably be available by the middle of the week (definitely by Thursday). I've been looking over the request list (which is huge) and I'll probably be allocating for those when we're actually a club. We don't have internet on our computers now...

CS Report: We'll have internet to-morrow. The computer we have that doesn't work will be fixed soon. JC cleared up a lot of crap on the website. *round of clapping* If anyone has artistic inclination, we want to make the website attractive, contact JC about contributing to the effort.

Wench Report: I won't be around that much, don't think that I won't be watching over all you shiftholders. If you don't sign in, I will be on your ass. If you don't do work, I will be on your ass.

AC Report: I've been trying to organise; through the sweat of the brows of Kim, Adib, and myself... we have furrrrrniture! Matching furrrrrrniture! Kim has reinforced the drawers on the cabinet and has added new locks; don't try to open it if you don't have a key. The VHS tapes will be coming out of the cabinet and we'll be filling it up with many nice new DVDs. Thanks to DJ who brought in a donation of DVDs and VHS tapes (like Angel on DVD). People that wish to be an AC or to have a key (but have lost the privilege), don't ask me about it! If I see you being a responsible Forumite and if you are around at a time when people aren't putting on movies, I will ask you if you would like to be an AC. We are now planning our movie nights in advance; there will only be one marathon in a month. We will have the list of movies up, so that you won't put on those movies during the rest of the week. September 18th will be "Sci-Fi 101" (classic sci-fi films like Metropolis) and on September 23rd will be a Twilight Zone Marathon (we now have the first two seasons). October is Horror Month, the marathon will be all of the Nightmare on Elmstreet movies. Movie nights need to be educational, so there must be a discussion. For example during "Sci-Fi 101", we will be discussing 'what makes good sci-fi.' We're working on plans for Halloween, we're going to try to get some newer movies this time (that aren't in the public domain). Jeremy donated his Battlestar Galactica keychain mail, Sam will be building a display for it. I have stickers that I'm going to put on all the movies that have been donated so we know what has been donated and what has come from USG funds.

Sub AC for Life: I did my check and only one movie was out of place. All of my movie donations come from my Master List, however I'm running out of movies and I'm now taking suggestions. If the movies you suggest are genre, I'll probably be getting them soon.

Committees
(Substitute) Historian: Orange tells of "The Origins of the Reference Section!" and "The Cullings That Are Yet To Come!"

Fundraising: *dancing*

PR: Flyers that were put up around campus brought in at least seven people!
Community Service: Non-genre books are being donated soon.

Old Business
Lisa: We have a website. Use it!

Ian: CLEAN! Garbage goes in the garbage cans. We don't want fluffies.

Orange: We are now going to put our pulps into nice boxes, without backs (and with the plastic folded over). What I need from you all are very nice boxes; like copy paper boxes and they must have a top. They will be organised by title and then by year and eventually we will go digital.

Roman: The catalogue software that we have needs to be re-registered every year for a fee of $50. I would like to make a motion to allocate the money when we have it to re-register the software. Motion acclimated.

New Business
Ian: Plans for the 40th are being made. It looks like we're going to do it in spring (specifically March), so we have more time to plan and it doesn't interfere with any holidays. Voice your concerns. If it is a particularly dire concern, we will do our best to accommodate you.

Orange: We have to cull the reference section. There is a disagreement over what should and should not be culled. We need to define what our reference section is for: is it for for 'non-fiction books about science fiction' or 'reference non-fiction books'? *much debate and discussion* Discussion is tabled for now.

Announcements
- If anyone wants to play Warhammer Online, register at game-hoppers.com.

Ian: Forumites! Particularly, old Forumites! Goods, services, or random means to get goods and services that are left at our door are appreciated and will be accepted graciously. That said, we can't officially ask you for donations. Hint, hint. Wink, wink.

Sam: Dr. Horrible will be coming out on DVD!

Bobby: Wednesday, they're going to try to make a black hole!

Roman: If the universe in fact doesn't end on Wednesday, Heroes premiers September 22nd.

Meetings closed at 8:02 PM

To celebrate his time here, we're having a good, old fashioned trip to the beach.

This Saturday, around 1pm, we'll be meeting at the beach across the street from the Bayville Adventure Park, off the north end of Route 106 in Nassau. It's a pleasant area with calm, warm Long Island Sound waters and -- atypical for the north shore -- a nice, sandy beach. There are restaurants really close to the beach (like, you can walk about two minutes from the water and be on line to order), too.

If you want an address for your GPS, you can use "8 Bayville Avenue, Bayville, NY". That's the Adventure Park, but we'll be meeting across the street from that, at the beach. Look for the incredibly obvious building that houses the restrooms and showers, or just keep your eye out for geeks. It's a fairly small beach, so finding people shouldn't be a problem. Either way, I'll have my cellphone prepped, and you can ping me at 516-554-2955. For questions, send a message ahead of time to beachy@jc-news.com.
