how would i go about making a cloche hat?
I realllly want (need) a cloche hat,
but the ones I've found whilst looking around le shops are all just a bit ugly in some way :P (e.g. with leopard print, hideous flowers, leather bands etc. etc.)
so I decided that SOMEHOW, somehow, I would make one myself. I'm just not sure how to go about it.

I've been surfing the net looking for tutorials & how-tos but all I'm finding is information on how to crochet hats or make felt hats. And I'm not really interested in learning how to do that at this current point in time.

Would anybody be able to tell me how to make a cloche hat that isn't felt or knitted or whatever? As in, just made out of cotton or... well, fabric?
I've seen some examples around the net, but they're all just for sale and there's no information on how to actually MAKE them.
As in... things like this

(but I wouldn't be using fabric like that, obviously :P)
They look like they would be pretty simple to make, I'm not NOT ENTIRELY SURE HOW TO DO IT !
Fanks for reading :3

You can buy books that tell you how to draft various hat patterns, but I also know that some of the large pattern companies have hat patterns, and the cloche is fairly common. If they're not out right now, try looking up "hat patterns" on ebay, they have out of print patterns and even some e-books that might contain patterns for cloche hats.

You just need to dig around for a bit.

Is this the type of thing you're looking for?

I personally love this pattern for the Buckle Cloche - it's very easy and works up quickly, and has an adjustable pattern for different sized heads.

Do you know of a similar pattern for knitting? I really like that hat, but don't crochet

Oh, I'm sorry - I thought this was in [info]crochetcrochet, another group I'm in. I found a couple of Ravelry:

One Skein Stirling Cloche, Felted Cloche, and the Kim Cloche. There are more - you should join Ravelry if you haven't! :)

Though if you wanted to try crochet, the Buckle Cloche is a very easy pattern and would be a good one to start with.

Or I could just make you one and we could do a swap of some kind! :)

man a swap sounds awesome, except for I am not very good at most of what I do! (good enough for me I think, but not for others)

But I am glad you made the mistake of posting this in the sewing community because it is REALLY cute! I'll have to check out the other ones, I think I am on ravelry but haven't been on lately, I haven't been doing much knitting

Have fun! There were a ton of cute patterns on Ravelry that didn't have links, so definitely check those out.

The trick now is to find a buckle worthy of the pattern!

Somewhere I have an antique buckle I found at a yard sale. If I could find it, it would be perfect.
