Set and Horus Blessing 'Lord of Transformations' [May. 20th, 2009|06:37 am]

[music |birds chirping, fan humming]

Dear Fans of Set,

The second part of a big project is complete. The wall hanging created from a more complex version of this design may benefit from some polishing, but I'm content to leave it as is for now. The pendant, after many, many hours of polishing, is now wearable:

My New Tattoo [Feb. 22nd, 2009|02:48 pm]

Set in Skin
by ~si-set on deviantART

If you click on it you can learn more, but the gist is:  I drew this design three years ago with intent to get it as a tattoo, then got it done at Big Guns in Oshkosh, WI for a hundred dollars. The head was heavily modified by the tattooist (he accidentally turned it into Anubis but I'll forgive him since we worked it out), the body was largely unmodified except for that he added a lot of detail.

Ancient Images of Set [Jul. 27th, 2008|01:26 pm]

livejoan
Greetings, Friends of Set!

I've made considerable progress on my gallery of ancient images of Set:
http://www.joanlansberry.com/setfind/setfind.html

Also, I've created a pdf of items from the ancient temple of Set at Naqada:
http://www.joanlansberry.com/setfind/naqada-temple.pdf

Do any of you have photos of ancient artifacts featuring Set or are related to his temple at Naqada that you wouldn't mind me placing in these formats? (Credit and a link, of course)

Thank you!
And remember according to Egyptologist Bob Brier, July 29th is Set's birthday! Celebrate it in grand style, everyone!

Set Sighted in Rancho Mirage [Apr. 25th, 2008|05:51 pm]

setigirl
Here's a Sighting for you.

We were driving along Bob Hope street in Rancho Mirage, California and passed a large round stone with a Set-head carved into it! I don't have a picture of the stone, but the logo is on Rancho Mirage's website.

Can you find him?

http://ci.rancho-mirage.ca.us/index.php

I know it's supposed to be a ram, but come on! We know better. Set's just being incognito.

How is everyone doing? All's well on this end.

Set and Horus Reconciled [Sep. 14th, 2007|07:03 pm]

livejoan
[mood | cheerful]

http://www.joanlansberry.com/reconcil.html
is link if I cannot get picture to show...

This picture was inspired by a chance rare rainbow sighting the week before:

First some thunder and rain, then some sunshine, makes rainbow

Right away I thought thunder, rain and then sunshine, "Set and Horus are reconciled!" So I had to create a picture with the rainbow in it. I'm not sure if it's 'kosher Kemetic', if any ancient Egyptian ever had that idea, but it sure seems to work for me.

Also, look at this little amulet:

(If all the pics do not show, this is link:)
http://www.aztriad.com/pathmark/set-gems.html

"HORUS AND SET RECONCILED" Brussels Museum of Art and History via GEM

Engraved faience, Not before NEW KINGDOM, not after 19TH DYNASTY?

From the GEM site:

"The blue enamel seal takes the form of a cartouche representing Seth and Horus holding hands. The two gods with the heads of falcons are wearing the double crown of Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt. They are surmounting the hieroglyphic sign signifying gold. The handle of the seal is the transposition, in faience, of vegetable stalks tied together. The material indicates that it is probably an amulet..."

the back side of this amulet...

You can see where the necklace chain or rope would go through. I differ from the museum description, for I think the figure on the left looks to be more falcon headed and the figure on the right to have more of the Set animal snout.

Also, while they are saying it's vegetable stalks tied together, could it possibly represent the arch of a rainbow???

I've sent for a couple of books on symbology in Egyptian art and artifacts, so maybe I'll learn more about it.

Set with Seti I [Jun. 1st, 2007|06:18 pm]

Greetings, all!

Set and Pharoah Seti I

I was so excited when this image popped before me during Bob Brier's DVD lecture about Seti I. So I took a photo of it. It's rather streaky, because of it being on the TV screen, but I could not find a better image on the web. Meanwhile, I'm thrilled, another Set sighting!

(from Touregypt):

"Seti I was the father of perhaps Egypt's greatest rulers, Ramesses II, and was in his own right also a great leader. His birth name is Seti Mery-en-ptah, meaning
"He of the god Seth, beloved of Ptah."

The Journey Ends [Feb. 1st, 2007|12:15 pm]

setigirl
Here's the latest update:

Greetings all,

You might have noticed that SetSightings.com is no more. Yes, the site is down. But fear not; this is temporary although indefinitely so. In its present form, SetSightings has been destroyed. There is no drama, trauma, or disaster behind this event, just a choice. And someday, SetSightings.com will re-emerge.

It has been an interesting journey these past four years, and I thank all of you who walked with us. At first, we had hoped to find a handful of sightings. In the end, SetSightings contained almost 500 entries, far exceeding anyone's expectations.

SetSightings.com will be back someday. If you would like to be notified when this happens, please join or remain on SetSightings' YahooGroup at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/setsightings/

Our LiveJournal still thrives, and sightings can be posted there. Until SetSightings.com is back online, I recommend joining or remaining a member of this community:

http://community.livejournal.com/setsightings/

LiveJournal accounts are free, or you can bookmark the SetSightings' community and check it for new posts. Here's were you can create a new account:

https://www.livejournal.com/create.bml

That's it for now. My best to you all.

Sincerely,
Juliet AKA SetiGirl

"Relief of the god Seth from the pyramid temple.

Scroll down to find the tiny icon and click on it.
