This is a community for people who are serious about writing fiction and being published. Participants in this community are expected to already know, at minimum, the rudiments of the craft. All members will treat each other as if they were writing with the aim of professional publication -- that's the level of discourse we're aiming for here.
I'd like this community to be a place where people go to ask each other for market advice, for help with troublesome bits of stories, for questions about nitpicky craft issues, and sometimes even as a place to go to lick one's wounds after a particularly nasty critique session or rejection letter. Members should also feel free to post interesting writing exercises as a way of helping us all hone our skills and get our creativity flowing.
This is not a place to post entire stories for critique! I can't stress that highly enough. Posting a story to the Web counts as publication, and most publishers want to buy "First English language serial rights" -- that means no reprints. If you have a piece that you'd like critiqued, by all means, announce it to the group, but then handle the crits through email or through your personal journal. Even if you're not going to try to get this story published, remember, we are treating each other as if we all were striving for professional publication, so this rule is unbendable. Snippets are fine, entire pieces are not.
Treating each other as professionals means being courteous and honest. Nastiness has no place here, but sugarcoating doesn't help anyone either. And in the courtesy department, when posting, please use your spell-checker and your shift key (where applicable). Be as courteous to your fellow community members as you would to an editor.

jenwrites to keep the spirit of it pure. People who sign on and then make posts rife with grammatical and spelling errors, or people who bellyache when they're given honest advice will be removed. There are plenty of LiveJournal communities out there that cater to writers who simply want to be told how good they are and how mean editors and agents are. If that's what you're looking for in a community, then this is not the place for you.
But if you want a place to talk with other people who are serious about the craft of fiction writing and professional publication, please, join us!
