I may be late to jump on the "Aretha Franklin's inauguration hat is fierce!" bandwagon, but what with that other legendarily fierce hat in fandom? This had to be done.
As per usual, taking and modifying is okay (which is why I included the blank base), but comments are very much appreciated, hotlinking and stealing is not. :) Quotes from 1,2,3 are of course (slightly modified) from the Firefly Ep "The Message" which featured Jayne's hat.

I'm done, I'm done, I'm done! The story is not yet finished (far from it!), and I'll keep writing - University permitting - but to celebrate the finish line, those who passed it, and those who are on the last stretch and still writing, yet another batch of NaNo icons. The usual goes re: stealing and hotlinking (no, you can't) and commenting and crediting (would be nice). :)

As a friend recently gave me a set of magnetic poetry, I wondered if there would be any interest in icons of that sort. I would take requests, of course, or just create random 'poetry' and post that up for the taking.
If enough people are interested, it probably will take the form of something like this (poetry by a friend of mine).

When I mentioned Neil Gaiman quotes posting my latest batch of NaNo icons, the lovely allie_meril was kind enough to post another very inspirational quote.
Why write?
The best thing about writing fiction is that moment where the story catches fire and comes to life on the page, and suddenly it all makes sense and you know what it's about and why you're doing it and what these people are saying and doing, and you get to feel like both the creator and the audience. Everything is suddenly both obvious and surprising ("but of course that's why he was doing that, and that means that...") and it's magic and wonderful and strange.
You don't live there always when you write. Mostly it's a long hard walk. Sometimes it's a trudge through fog and you're scared you've lost your way and can't remember why you set out in the first place.
But sometimes you fly, and that pays for everything.

It does ring true, and is very motivational and inspirational on top of it... and what could be better than such a quote right before your eyes every time you sit glaring at your computer during those long tedious weeks of NaNo, or when another writer's block hits? Therefore, wallpapers.

Because I am still behind - after temporarily giving up - I decided to read and re-read the pep talks from NaNoWriMo 2007 and 2008, plus some Neil Gaiman quotes - he never fails to inspire me, and is on a close second place of my favourite authors together with Naomi Novik, both coming just behind Tolkien. It worked this time. I'm writing - well, not right now, obviously, but managed to catch up a little and it's going well despite a stomach bug that is making things difficult. -_- Aaaaanyway, more icons!
As per usual, comments and credits are nice but not strictly necessary, hotlinking and theft result in a cranky Elleth.
Erm, like I said... writing quotes, excerpts from pep talks on the NaNo homepage... good stuff. Unfortunately I'm hopelessly befuddled and confused about who said what, or I'd give proper credit. Sorry. If you really want to know, feel free to ask, I'll try to find out. I am, by the way, also taking requests for icons of this kind (and others), so if you have something specific in mind, I'll be up for it. :)

Uhm, well. I've seen other icon makers do this, and thought it was a nice idea. Feel free to request whatever floats your boat in terms of icons. Fandom, general, stock, blanks, themed, songs, poetry, quotes, interests, whathaveyou. Anything goes, really, apart from explicit content. (I may be forgetting another something here, so I'll retain the right to refuse claims, but honestly, that's unlikely.)
Feel free to request a single icon, a certain number of icons or a set (15 - 25 icons), and if there are images, fonts, textures, brushes, text or anything else that you would like to see used, feel free to include that in your request.
Before this descends into the category of tl;dr, happy commenting! I'm looking forward to seeing what you have in mind. :)

Let me just say that if I were a citizen of the United States, Senator Obama would have both my voice and my vote. I'm on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, but his speeches have not failed to inspire me, his ideas have not failed to impress me, and his philosophy has not failed to move me. We are the ones we have been waiting for, indeed. I am - and have been for a long while - sceptical about the self-appointed idea of the United States being this world's only possible savior and/or salvation, but I believe that Senator Obama, if he gets elected, can be a great leader and great example to spark movements that may bring about the changeS that are needed.
Please, don't f*ck this up.
Feel free to distribute, share, link (not hotlink), modify, whathaveyou. Spread the word.

This is what happens when Elleth decides to forsake sleep in order to avoid the rush to register for next semester's classes, and finds the registration software malfunctioning (as always) with the registration deadline looming 10 hours away. *facepalm* That, of course has very little to do with these icons - I made them a while (1 1/2 years to the day, whoa) ago, forgot and stumbled across them while exploring my harddrive in order to keep from falling asleep, and in between checking whether or not STINE would let me log in. Still doesn't. Anyways, enjoy. Long sentence is long, I know, sorry. Am tired.
Feel free to use, edit, crop, add text, whathaveyou. They're blanks, be creative.
Credit would be nice, comments would be nice as well, stealing is a no-go and hotlinking still makes me cranky. Please don't do it.
It's been a while since I made these, but am fairly sure that the stock images were snagged from Corbis and/or Getty.

As I recently had to delete all entries in this journal in order to convert s_i to a community, I am now in the process of reposting most old icons. My apologies for spamming your f-list.
Same rules as always apply: Feel free to grab, comment, leave feedback. Textless icons usually aren't bases, but asking never hurt. Hotlinking isn't appreciated. If you grab anything, please credit in keywords.
