Challenge #73 - Jim
Title: On the Bus
Author: [info]kerravonsen aka Kathryn Andersen

Challenge #73: Jim
Category: gen
Words: 165

Written on the bus 2005-01-12.

(Hi everyone, finally decided to join in, seeing as I had so much fun on [info]b7friday last year, and since we have corrupted encouraged [info]sallymn to go onto LJ, I'd better follow her here, seeing as I introduced her to TS in the first place...)

The wheels on the bus go round and round

Jim shifted in his hard plastic seat. The seats were an anti-vandalism measure, but whoever designed them was a sadist.

Round and round

His teeth ached. The vibration of the motor made the whole bus rattle. Now he knew how a tuning-fork felt.

Round and round

Jim sneezed. Too many smells: gas fumes, the soap scent of washed bodies, the old sweat of the unwashed ones, perfume, shampoo, bad breath, toothpaste... He breathed through his mouth, but he could still taste it.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

The squeal of the brakes stabbed through his ears into his skull. The jolt nearly threw him out of his seat as he covered his ears with his hands. Where did the driver learn how to drive -- in tinker-toy school?

All through the town

The hell with waiting for the bodyshop to get back to him. He was going to get a new truck.

Aw poor Jimbaby! Welcome to my life! Although, granted, I don't have to suffer on a bus with heightened senses, they're still not fun places to be.

Welcome to the comm, a very nice starting piece as a confirmed JimBabe I'm very happy with all these responses :-)

Thanks!

I wouldn't call myself a JimBabe, but I'm more of a JimBabe than a BlairBabe.

Oh lord, I feel for Jim - I remember being in exactly the same situation last year and wanting to hurl every time the bus driver hit the brakes or took a corner too fast. At least Jim already had practice breathing through his mouth...

(double-take at icon -- yeah, I'd forgotten they were both Richard... (grin))

In my years of catching busses, I've found that bus drivers vary considerably in the amount of care they take with their passengers -- and the ones that are running late are the worst.

Oh poor darling... there's so many ways those blessed senses can make his life a misery, y'know (and as good little fans, it's our job to ferret out every single one...)

Hey welcome - always a pleasure to see new people joining us *g*

And ouch, poor Jim, indeed. I always say that taking the bus or the train can be quite a difficult mission.

I find trains nicer than busses, though neither one are much good if you can't get a seat.

LOL!
Thanks.
I mean how many vehicles did he go through in the series? At least three.
Of course the flaw in this scenario is the question of why Blair didn't just drop him off at the station, but there could have been any number of reasons why Blair and his car weren't available, but I thought it would be too pedantic and distracting to actually mention it.

Ugh, I can almost picture myself there breathing the fumes. Nicely done!

Thanks.

And I even remembered to call it "gas" and not "petrol". (pats self on back for avoiding non-US vocabulary)
