Challenge 318 "Sunny Day"

Challenge #318 Sunny Day
Story and Artwork by Debbie Stone
Words: 1834
Rating: R Makes reference to B/J future sexual relationship
Warnings: Not beta'd but if you find a boo boo or two please let me know.
Missing scene: TSbBS
Summary: I always wondered what Blair did after he left the press conference about his dissertation so this is my take on a missing scene before he shows up at the hospital.

A Sunny Day in Cascade
Story and Artwork by Debbie Stone

"I apologize for this deception. My only hope is that I can be forgiven for the pain I've caused those that are close to me. Thank you." Those were the last words Blair said as he fled the conference room after giving his press conference regarding his dissertation. He barely heard Chancellor Edwards deliver her venomous comments about clearing out his office by Friday but he did hear them.

Blair's mind was racing as well as his heart and his feet as he quickly escaped down the hall toward his soon to be former office with the press fast on his heels. The vultures wanted more from him. They were demanding more words. Words he didn't have left to give at that moment. All he desperately needed at this second was deafening silence. His office might afford him that long enough to get himself together. Breaking down in front of the press and the Chancellor would do him in emotionally. He was already an emotional wreck after tossing his life away like yesterday's stale bread.

Blue Skies

The sky's a cloudless, rain-washed blue. Jim's staring up, close to zoning on the intense color.

The sunlight tickles his face as the slight breeze changes its heat. Jim lets its warmth soak deep and stop the shivers.

It's a beautiful sunny day. Just perfect. A day to grab Sandburg and find some fish to harass; to drink icy beer, and catch some rays before Cascade's clouds roll back.

He takes his first breath in two minutes and chokes on the stink of a butchered body, surrounded by a buzz of flies.

It's still a beautiful day.

Hold that thought.

Challenge Prompt #317 "river"

Challenge Prompt: river

Title: Yaku Mayu
Author: Roslyn
Beta: StarWatcher (Thanks! Remaining errors are mine)
Content: Gen ficlet, 250 words, environmental warnings only

Jim spit viciously into the sink and tossed, rather than emptied, the remaining fluid from his glass down the drain. “Yaku mayu!” Sub-vocalizing a few swear words, he strode to the refrigerator and yanked open the door. The outburst ended as he began chugging bottled water.

“What's up?” Blair approached with his usual disregard for the Ellison temper. “Was that Quechua? I'm mostly familiar with the Amazonian dialect and not the original Andean language you learned.”

“I said it was 'river water'. Hell, I should have noticed the smell. The stuff reeks.”

“Sorry; I should have warned you, but it never occurred to me that you'd actually drink tap water. I told you this morning to take your shower early instead of tonight.”

“You expected the water to turn bad?”

“Sure. You react poorly at the beginning of every month. I finally found an association between your behavior and the chlorination schedule for the water, which takes place in the afternoon of the first Monday of each month. ” Blair grinned widely. “You never asked me why.”

“And risk having you explain the reasons for your instructions?”

“Funny. Want another glass of water?”

“Okay, point taken.” Jim swigged another mouthful of water to clear the taste from his mouth, if not his memory. “So, how much is this going to cost me in water filters?”

“Well, there's reverse osmosis but that will remove certain minerals or we can go with the more economical carbon filtration-”

Ellison grinned. And dialed it down.

Story and Artwork by Debbie Stone
Words: Around 3000 I know I'm over but what can I say I'll do better next time.
Rating: PG Some swears
Warnings: Not beta'd and written while tending to a sick child. Let me know if you find a boo boo or two and I'll go back and fix it.

Summary: Something about Sandburg just doesn't smell right and it could be deadly.

Story found here: http://stoneygirl77.livejournal.com/6991.html

Comment: This story was not only inspired by the prompt of the week but the particular illness that my daughter has at this time. Because of that I decided that Blair needed to share it with her. It is about a current illness in our world today. Get better quick my dear daughter, Melissa. You too, Blair.

Challenge Prompt #316 "The Nose Knows"

Nov. 15th, 2009 | 03:42 am
posted by: [info]roslynsmuse in [info]sentinel_thurs

Title: Nosing Around
Author: Roslyn (Beta by StarWatcher!)
Content: Gen ficlet, 250 words and no warnings

“Do you smell that?”

“Isn't that usually my line?” Jim sniffed in the subtle manner he normally used to avoid drawing attention to himself in public. Then he abandoned subtlety. “I got nothin' here, Chief.”

“How can you not smell that?”

Jim rose, concerned. “Hang on.” Closing his eyes, he tested himself. “I'm definitely online. Rose Campion downstairs just trotted out that cheap toilet water Mr. Campion gave her last Christmas. She's showing him she's still got plenty so he can just put something else in her stocking this year.” He grinned. “Watch your language there, Mrs. C. Oh, and you'd better call Mrs. Oster down the hall and let her know her spice cabinet needs cleaning out. Getting moldy in there. And I'm getting the WD-40 that the super must have just finished using on the hinges for the front door. So, he finally replaced them. About time, too. But that can't be-”

“Great! That's just what I wanted to know.”

Jim's eyes narrowed, a danger signal to all but his fearless roommate.“This was a test?”

“That would depend upon how you wanted to look at it. I was really testing the super to see if he finally fixed it. I mean, like that door was a real invitation to crooks. A real red light to a sailor. And, the nose knows, right? Not testing you specifically, of course, but you'd have made me go downstairs and check myself if I'd asked straight out – uhm, Jim? Whoa, Jim!”
