AboutThis community is for the discussion of sensory problems, including sensory defensiveness, hypersensitivity, sensory integration dysfunction, soft sound sensitivity syndrome, and other related conditions.
Do everyday sensations make your skin prickle and your heart rate increase? Do you become angry and violent if you can hear a distant, muffled voice or a repetitive noise, such as the sound of someone eating or breathing? Do common sounds, tastes, smells or other sensations often make you angry, frustrated or upset? Have you ever found yourself in tears when confronted with a ticking clock or a creaking door? Do tiny little things bother you, such as lights or sounds that nobody else seems to notice?
If so, you're not alone. There are various medical conditions, including one called sensory defensiveness, that affect the way we use our senses and react to things. This community has been created as a support base for all people with these issues so that we can discuss our problems together and hopefully offer tips and support to one another.
You do not have to have been diagnosed with a condition to join this community. You might suffer from related medical conditions, but in most cases, people join because they've only just realised that other people suffer from these problems too. Perhaps you didn't even know that other people shared your problems until you read this page today. We don't claim to be experts - we're just a bunch of people with similar problems, relieved to find others who understand. That's all.
None of us are the same, and we all have different sensory reactions. We are all affected in a negative way by these problems, so please be nice to one another, and respect each other's differences. :)
