Seek Obama's Beef with a flying annoyance [Jun. 21st, 2009|06:43 am]

I bet you already know what i'm talking about; however, if you don't, here's the video. Oh, and it's really funny. Actually, I thought it was a bit whacked so I chose a different version of the original, like a remix.

Hey, I’m Katee and I’m an American currently living in Germany. I was wondering if anyone in the community would mind answering a few questions for me. I’m writing a book set in the Philippines, specifically in the countryside near Roxas City and I was wondering if any of you had any information about Capiz.

Thanks so much!

Flag counter project [Apr. 8th, 2009|08:30 pm]

Hello everyone! My name is Kelly and I live near Tampa, Florida in the United States. I'm extremely interested in the cultures and languages of foreign countries! In fact, I'm fluent in both English and Japanese and am in my fifth year of Mandarin Chinese. I'd really love to speak to some of you, so feel free to leave a comment!

My main reason for making this post, however, is a small request. I'm doing a project for school in which I'm trying to see how many people from different countries I'm able to come in contact with. If you'd be so kind, no matter where you live, please click the link below to add to my flag counter!

Here's my progress thus far! )

Thank you guys so much; I really don't know how to convey my gratitude! I'd also love to speak to any of you and learn about the culture of your country!

(Moderators, if this post is unacceptable, please feel free to delete it! Thank you!)

My name is Catie, and I'm from the US (Massachusetts). 16 years old. I live pretty close to Boston and I have a pretty diverse friend group (considering the mostly white middle class town suburb I live in). I consider myself to be an extremely accepting person and I love learning about different perspectives and cultures. When I was little I was kind of a geography freak so I used to look at maps all the time and memorize them xD

Hmm. Let's see. loves: meeting new people, friends, music, traveling, movies, biographies, fantasy books, stupid teen love books, love.
I'm fascinated by the human mind and I plan on majoring in Psychology when I get to college (I'm currently in my Junior year of high school).

I've traveled to quite a few places in North America, but not beyond that. I would absolutely love to travel, if I had the money and time I'd be doing it whenever I can. I joined this community to meet new people from anywhere and everywhere. Add me if you'd like, I'll add you back :D

On-Topic? Appropriate? [Apr. 2nd, 2009|01:03 am]

lunacsettingin
 Guten Tag!

My name is Sarah, I am a 20 year old from Maryland [USA] and I go to university in Rhode Island [USA]. Currently I am studying in Berlin, Germany and having the time of my life. I can't believe I only have one month left here :-(

I would like to try and make some German friends while in Berlin. But I'm also happy to make online friends from anywhere. I'll write a short "about me" later on.

But my biggest question is about meeting people in Berlin. I am not enrolled in a University, rather I am enrolled in a study abroad program that employs professors from different universities in Berlin, and we have private classes with them. There are at least 16 or 17 people in my program [all americans], but I am only friends with two of them. The rest of the kids are quite close, and have made it clear that we are not part of their group. At this point I really don't want to be friends with them either, so that's fine. But I'd still like to meet some German kids, or other people who live here.

My two friends here do not like going out to bars or clubs to meet people. Considering they have been studying German for two months [since we arrived in late January] and I have been for nearly three years, I understand that it might be a little intimidating for them. The three of us have gone out together once or twice, and both times I was the one that wound up dancing with people, chatting people up and getting phone numbers. I tried to get them to join me and tried to introduce them [all the people I met spoke english just fine] but they didn't want to.

Recently I've been going to bars by myself. Two Fridays ago I went to one and was wicked nervous. Nobody came to talk to me, and I didn't know how to start talking to them. I did meet one guy later on, but he was a serious creeper and I wasn't really interested.

For what it's worth I don't drink alcohol, I generally have an apple juice or some girlie virgin drink. I don't like the taste of alcohol in general

Anyway, my question is- is it even "culturally" acceptable to go to bars or clubs by yourself in Germany? Or is that something that only creepers do [I saw some crazy looking old dudes who never left the 60s when I went out two weeks ago]. If it is "acceptable" how the hell do I start talking to people there? I'm not looking to hook up with someone, I just want to make friends I guess [if I get a little booty, that'd be a bonus]. AHEM.

Any advice? Things to say, different venues to visit?

I hope all this makes sense, it's about 1:32 AM here and my brain is going by the wayside.

Oh: Um Mich )

Friends? [Mar. 27th, 2009|08:34 pm]

[Current Mood | chipper]

Hi there! I'm Jesi, 21, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm too tired to make this post amusing (not that it'd be) buuuut I have an excuse (like I always do), I walked almost 10 km today and my feet are dead tired, luckily enough I can still feel them. Anyway as usual I'm already rambling so if you dislike ramblers I recomend you to just avoid this and let those who like to ramble waste a few minutes of their lives reading this that still makes no sense.
I'm looking for new LJ friends, if they'd be aussie even better but if you are not don't worry there's enough space in my LJ to snuggle :P I'm currently in 4th year of uni, almost done (okay, not really but let me believe I am. Have you noticed how much I like parenthesis? :D) studying veterinary. Affirming that I love animals would be dumb otherwise why would I be studying a degree that involves 100% animals and 0% of social life. I do have a social life but lets pretend I'm extremely nerdy and dedicate myself devotedly to uni mmkay? :D Anyhoo why aussies you'd be asking yourself? if you aren't, shame on you. Thing is that once I'm done with my degree my plan (has been like this since I was 16) is to move to Australia and treat animals there :) It'd be nice if I could have at least some internetty friends before I move, I know real life aussies and have a few internetty friends living in Australia but not many so I'd be lovely if I could broaden my tiny group (that I love very mucho) of aussie friends :) I'm yet to decide the location where I'd be moving, Adelaide and Melbourne are on top of my list (I have family friends willing to lend me a bed and food :D) and hopefully somewhere in the near future when I have enough money I'll be able to move to Brisbane, love it there. Well, enough of that, don't want to bore you with my future plans hehe.
I'm easy going, love making new friends, open to everything, listen to music mostly in English (Spanish is my native language so if you find a horrendous spelling mistake ignore it and lets pretend it never happened :D), I travel a lot with my family during the summer, this will probably be my last proper summer vacation, we are planning on visiting China, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Thailand :) The only TV shows I follow at the moment (I used to be a TV junkie but uni leaves no time argh!) are Grey's Anatomy, Dr. House, Bones and can't say no to classics like Friends and Scrubs! Oh another very important detail about me, I sing in the shower and I bloody rock :D (let me believe it okay? :P) aaand I hate tomatoes with every inch of my heart, evil fruit. This is turning quite long if you have read it all I applaud you. So, anyone wants to start a friendship? ^^

HI^.^
I posted here over a year ago, so I thought I would re-introduce myself (hope no one minds)
So, my name is Megan and I am seventeen years old. I live in a really small town in Ontario, Canada. I am in grade twelve (final year of high school). Now, I know a few people might be thinking I'm not the right age to be in grade twelve (your usually eighteen), but I have a late birthday (dec 19, 1991), so I have always been a year younger than everyone else:/
I am interested in traveling, reading (novels, and manga=]), writing (not very well:P), hanging out with friends, and music (I am the type of person who listens to alnost every type of music).
So far, I have travelled to Greece and Italy, Quebec, and Darian Lake (I was a little girl). In twenty days I will be going to New York City for four days with my school.
Next year I plan on attending University, which I have applied for History and English. I hope to become a high school History and English teacher.

Okay, I think that's about it. If you wanna add me, feel free too, but just remember, I am a teenage girl. My moods can be anywhere on the modd scale, and I am kinda crazy/weird.
Other than that, I would love to meet new people:D

- My name is Dina, but you can call me Dee.
- I turned 27 on 12/5.
- Sadly, I reside in NJ [US].
- Atheist for reasons of my own.
- Fluent in Italian with basic understanding of Spanish.

Biography
I was dealt an unfortunate hand, but I deal with it. You should as well. If you can't, simply fuck off. :) I've had more losses and betrayals in my 2.5 decades of existence than you can even fathom. I've become accustomed to the worst in situations. I firmly believe in Karma and everyone pays for everything at some point in time. I'm more than meets the eye. I'm reserved, and very liberal at the same time. I can be the biggest sweetheart you'd ever meet, but I'm also known to have a bad temper. You don't wanna get on my bad side because I won't hesitate to split your head.

All in all, I'm cupcakes and razorblades. ;]

Friends Policy
I'm usually willing to add anyone who wants to be added.
Notes of warning: I discuss almost every topic, whenever the mood takes me, regardless of who I might offend. Because I really don't care. You shouldn't either.
I won’t do add-backs if you wRiTe LiKe ThIs. Or if you have no grammar/spelling knowledge. It is intensely annoying and just succeeds in making you look stupid and ignorant. I have no time or patience with people who seem to have no grasp of the English language.
Occasionally I add people just because they look interesting and I enjoy their journals. Strangely, even if they don’t add me back, I don’t mind.
BE a friend rather than a username.

Disclaimer I
I'll comment if I have something to ask or say about an entry. I am not one to comment with a 'Have fun at the party!'
However, this doesn't mean I do not read my friends page nor does it mean I don't care about them all.

Disclaimer II
Facts you need to know in order to understand me and my journal:
- I have a genetic disorder which confines me to a wheelchair. I only began using one when I was 15.
- I am clinically depressed. You need to remember to take my posts with a grain of salt. My feelings change somewhat quickly.
- I am my own best friend. I may appear "different" to some, but I like being so.
- I am a HUGE postcard collector. Be a doll and send me some of your state/country!
- I may be of Italian descent, however my mentality is as American as a hot dog.
- I intend to move abroad simply because I detest the US government.
- I am deathly afraid of cats. I had a traumatic experience with one when I was 10, and to this day I cannot be around one.
- If there is one true thing in the world, it's that I absolutely LOVE babies and toddlers.

- I'm looking for people who post (more or less) regularly.
- I actually want to get to know you. so if you don't intend to BE a friend, move along.
- I don't care (meaning you're welcome either way) if you're happy-go-lucky or struggling with depression, as long as you're real and honest.
- I like people who are passionate about the things they love...or hate; I like rants and rambles.
- I also like people who think outside of the box and aren't judgmental.

Don't add me without letting me know you've done so. And for the love of brownies, PLEASE DO NOT REQUEST IF YOU POST ONCE EVERY 2 MONTHS!! It may look as I have 80 friends, but most never post.

Myspace me if you wish to talk directly.

Notebook Project [Feb. 2nd, 2009|05:13 pm]

[Current Music |birds singing]

Hello! I'm currently living in Australia (Orange, New South Wales to be exact) but I am from Seattle, Washington born and raised... I'm working on these two notebooks. I've gotten one set back, the first set and it turned out amazing. I'm doing different ones for Australia/New Zealand and America/Canada as well as an all around international version of the notebooks.

I'm looking for people all over the world to help me out, it's kind of a "guide to" your country, city, what it's like to live there, a postcard or something, drawings, recipes, pretty much whatever you'd like to put in the notebook with a little bit about yourself. Then you pass it onto the next person. There are two notebooks going around currently (internationally) and a few in each of the places mentioned above. Let me know if you'd like to help me out with these notebooks. They travel together and one is for my son (when he grows up) and one is for my brother who is interested in the world...

Kind of a surprise thing, I know he'll love the first version I want to surprise him with more. So email me (sara.ringham@gmail.com), message me or comment here if you are interested in helping me out! Thanks so much!

[Current Music |Battle - Luv U]

Hello~ This is my first post, though I had been meaning to write one up since I joined several months ago. 8D;;

My name's Amanda, I'm 17 and live in America, the state of Texas specifically. I'm in my junior year of high school, and I'm not too certain of it's equivalent to other countries, sorry. D: I'm taking French in school currently, but I would really, really love to learn...well, a lot of other languages. Turkish, Russian, and Mandarin are the languages at the top of my to-learn list, amongst others.

As for my interests, I adore drawing & writing (though I'm not really spectacular at either, but they're great ways to spend time), and I've also recently started to take up sewing~ I listen to music of varying languages & genres, but I don't really have a favorite band. I read quite a bit when I have the chance, and I'm currently reading Good Omens by Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett. I read manga on occasion, but not all that much. I adore the series Axis Powers Hetalia, as I'm a bit of a history dweeb, as well as the series Franken Fran and Zombie Loan.

I...don't really think that gives you a good view of my personality, but...I'm not very good at describing myself at all.

I would love to make some new friends/penpals, as well as someone who could help me in learning a new language. (Not necessarily one I've mentioned, as I've got quite a long list of languages I want to learn.) I'd also be interested in talking about culture & history, so~ You can just leave a comment here, or send me a message. c:

je cherche pour quelque chose un petit peu d'inhabituel? [Jan. 29th, 2009|10:52 am]

jasmine_signet
Hi there! [: I'm Cat, and, well... je cherche pour quelque chose un petit peu d’inhabituel…? I'm looking for something (or rather, someone XD) slightly unusual. [:

What I'm looking for is a French penpal. ^^; Simply put, I adore French. I'm at Year 11 standard, which is nothing special, but I am genuinely fascinated by French (all languages, really), and I really, really want to improve. And since I was going to put something up here anyway (I met some great people last time [:), I figured... well, why not kill two birds with the same stone? =P (...slightly... violent... metaphor... not intended? ^^;)

So. Although I do realise I'm being slightly hypocritical by wanting to penpal with a person who's fluent in French while I, alas, am not, I could offer my services in English and Chinese? ^^; Which is to say; if you're learning English/Chinese, I could help you in return for correcting me if I mess up in French?

That said, I'm not just looking for someone because I want to improve my language skills. I also want to meet a new friend. [:

So, about me. [: )

I really hope to hear from you~

Cuba [Jan. 28th, 2009|10:50 pm]

Dear friends!
Those of you who have been to Cuba!
Would you help me with some useful information?
I'm going to make a large photographic project there. May be you have some good acquaintances there? Some insiders (fixers) who can coordinate us when we come? English speaking guides? Owners of night clubs or just persons who have many contacts in the area?
maybe some cheap lodgings?
Guys who can help?
Or interesting personages who can become the heroes of the photo-story (maybe some musicians or auto-mechanics for example)
My best regards,
Irina
