Age Verify = LL's ass covering exersize
Does anyone else think *Age Verification* is like a pointless ass covering exersise ? [In the style of Gambling on SL = OH NOES, or *Broadly offensive*]

I'm not a prude, but I REALLY hoped Age Verification would cut back on the obviously underage users and illiterate cruiser types just on SL *For the Sex*, [As SLs really gone kinda sex-centric in the past year or 2 IMO] it seems like HARDLY ANY CLUBS have bothered verifying [Mature instead of Adult] the general vibe if its a private sim and not mainland = Anything goes, ignore the verify rules etc

This past week, I've seen less than week old human noobs wandering around with full [Not painted on boxers] Skins and the usual god awful Free Cocks, no payment info on file and say they're not Age verified [Usually] when asked, then swiftly fly to the next nearest cruising spot on the map, not a care in the world...

Now, I've been full paid account for over 3 years now, Age verified myself [although I was scared it might not let me as I'm English not American]and some of my friends had to mail in photocopys of there driving licences and stuff...all FOR WHAT ?

I've been wrestling with my conscious, should I report these clubs thumbing there nose at SLs new rules, or would it be the usual time wasting exersise do you think ?

Like most of what SL has to offer, I have filed this subject under "why bother?" While its possible you can file an AR on club owners who flaunt the rules for not classifying sex clubs as Adult Content, its all too likely that both patrons and venue owners will find a way around the issue, again and again. Essentially, I believe this problem has no solution.

I'm not trying to be The Internet police really, I just hate this Teeny "Sneeking in a movie theatre underage" attitude they all seem to have about it

You get freaks like THIS too = http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Alan_The_Panda if someone like that Groomed a *kid* on SL over voice for instance, they'd be little or no record of it

You can always AR the offending Noobs. Maybe I lead a more sheltered club life than you, but I rarely see naked Noobs soliciting sex from people. Yes, Noobs have been turning up more and more in my club, but if they're asking for sex, they have the good sense to do so in IM.

If someone makes a complaint to me, I'll give the offending party a warning, then eject/ban if they keep up the behavior, but it hasn't been too much of an issue.

Me either, and my club contains naked people in general a good portion of the time, too. But naked n00bs cruising for sex? No. Goodness knows we wouldn't spare them their embarrassment for outing their asses in the middle of the club, either.

As I understand it (can't access the SL website right now, so I can't double-check the TOS), the age verification applies only to the sims run directly by LL, since they are essentially "public spaces". Private sims are the responpsibility of their owners. It appears that LL takes the view that what you do in your private space is your business.

If I'm right, I agree with you; it's just a way for LL to squirm out of any kind of responsibility for what is still hosted on their physical property / servers / media.

Actually, private sims are being checked for whether they conform to the new rules. I know folks who had to go circles with LL to keep a Mature rating and others who are jumping from PG to Mature because it's simpler than policing their renters' furniture for sex balls.

Yes, so I see now. The Community Standards makes it quite clear these rules apply to mainland and private regions.

It helps LL not worry about making sure underage people go into SL from the start.
By age verifying they can say "look we have a process" instead of "shit we should have been doing this from the start.. oh wait we did.. but we got rid of it for free accounts."

Amen, I love SL, but lately cruisers and naked Noobs literally EVERYWHERE you go is getting seriously annoying [AV shopping, clubbing, just talking with friends somewhere etc]I *really* hoped this age verification would "Throw some Clorine in the SL Gene pool" [As one of my SL friends put it] but its seemed another waste of time much like Oh NOES Gambling or Broadly offensive

I REALY don't get why they don't have AGE VERIFIED in the profiles either [Say under the payment info on file bit], I noticed a lot of clubs groups have gone invite only lately, but as profiles don't say if someones AV, whats the point in that ?

Personally i think age verification is a waste of time, cause any kid with a brain can just make an account with thier parents or adult friends info and just verify themselfs that way and not tell anyone. I personally wouldnt go around reporting sexual places just cause they havent switched to age verification status, cause well...im not the internet police. They should just ban the internet, lots of bad sexual stuff there kids can get their hands on too if they are smart enough. /sarcasim

The difference is, though, that creating age verification creates a legal demonstration of acting in good faith. That is, if you put in a process that requires a teen commit fraud (and that is what you just described) in order to gain access to some questionable activities on the Grid, then LL is in the position of explaining that, in fact, the problem isn't them enabling others...it's a teenager committing fraud.

And this, in fact, is what keeps sex on the Internet, because otherwise, companies providing sexual content would be raided and shut down for being accessories to the corruption of a minor.

That was our original plan, frankly. However few people are reading the fine print. If someone *reports* your club, even if it's on a private estate, the owner could be in a world of shit. It's really simple extortion on the part of LL. "Well we're not saying you HAVE to verify, but you know if someone reports you..."

So I had the sim switched to Adult. And within an hour the whining started. Traffic has been cut by half, even in summer when traffic is cut by half to begin with. People bitch *constantly* about the fact that they don't want to verify/are too stupid to figure it out/can't follow instructions/waah! you banned me!/whine whine fucking whine, but we WILL NOT change it back.

I think it's entirely a pointless ass covering exercise and honestly I think they would be better served by trying harder to keep kids OUT than verifying adults. But as it stands I am unwilling to risk our sim or our club and so Adult we are, and Adult we will stay, and unless your ass is verified, you can't TP to Cursed.

I find Age-Verified also makes an excellent n00b/griefer filter, too. Set AV on my parcel (with the full knowledge and encouragement of my landlord) and about an hour or so later someone in a fursuit showed up, tried to wander in, and couldn't. This character started whining at me (I was sitting on my lounger) because I had AV set. I was thinking, "Um, where *exactly* does it say you have any kind of right to wander into my place without an invite?" Privilege much?

Not related, but someone appeared on my back deck yesterday, started asking me personal questions, then got shitty with me for asking them to leave my property.
