What the hecky heck.
What is this? It looks like an abandoned... something.

It's located on Delmar Drive, where it intersects Interlaken Blvd., very close to where 520 and I-5 connect.

Each picture links to a (much) larger version.

no idea, but I'm going to try to find it tomorrow so as to investigate further. Reminds me of paintball war-games fields, minus the mobile obstructions.

It's a batting cage.

I was driving up 520 to Seattle the other day and I saw the Seattle Prep team taking batting practice and also doing pitching practice at that facility.

Batting cage? You mean the chain link fence thing? It's about as tall as my waist. You'd have to have some really, really short batters to fit inside that thing.

Perhaps old track and field things? Or maybe it's handball? For some reason The sheds remind me of something I used to see when I played at Ridgecrest Park as a kid.

According to King County Assessors website it's owned by Seattle Prep. Is it an old tennis court?

It's definitely not a tennis court, although it looks like it, sort of. It's really dense Astroturf-like green stuff and no net. Plus there's the big poles on one end, and the big metal boxes at the other end.

[info]mcfnord

and it was used as recently as yesterday. it's not an "abandoned" anything.

Dimensions and striping look wrong for tennis, but maybe the sheds contain pitching machines and the poles are for a net/backstop? They do have a baseball team...

I'm guessing the long "driveways" lead up to a sand pit covered by that plywood, for practicing long jumps.

One end of the "driveways" is bushes, and the other end is that chainlink fence cage thing seen in the last photo.

The driveways look to be made of a rubber material, and the chainlink has wheels so it can be rolled back off of the two sand pits. Final answer.

Nope. Like I said above, "It's really dense Astroturf-like green stuff and no net. Plus there's the big poles on one end, and the big metal boxes at the other end."

They are metal boxes with openings at the top and wires running from the poles into the boxes. It's not a practice wall. And there's no way a ball would bounce on that dense green stufff.

What kind of baseball team needs wires suspended from poles that go into metal boxes?
