"Ghetto" is perjorative, usually implying a racial aspect. I would call Tacoma a "cultural wasteland," a "moral void," a "socio-economic backwater." In a book I plan one day to write, I refer to it as The Sump of All Hope (that's copyrighted).

But "ghetto?" Sadly inaccurate.

Hey, at least you didn't go to school there (though when I was at Foss we didn't have no shootings ... a bomb threat or two, sure, and some gang violence, but nobody got capped ... at least on campus ...).

Foss was one of a few Tacoma schools we frequently played against in high school sports, and it really didn't seem nearly as bad as some of the other schools in the area (Clover Park, Lincoln, etc). In fact, Foss teams were typically filled with pretty nice fellas. There are at least a dozen Tacoma/Seattle schools I would've guessed before Foss, but events like this are so impossible to predict that I suppose I can't be too surprised.

Am I the only one who's very excited about how great this shooting was? Yeah, a person got shot. But it was just one person. There was no crazed killing rampage because somebody didn't like Mondays. No revenge against society. Just a regular crime of passion with one intended target.

No friendly fire = good!

Now as soon as we get people to shoot only their intended target, then we can work on getting rid of it all together.
