Franken Boot!
Howdy Seattle! Wanted to let everybody know that Seattle now is the 3rd city in the country with a monthly Mash-Up/Bootleg music night! This is big news, since this is a huge phenomenon in the UK and just starting to get big here in the States. I hope you can come down to the ReBar this Saturday and help make it a big success!

oh, and if you don;t know what a mash-up is, search for "Get Your Bootleg On", the Europe-based headquarter website for all Mash-up an bootleg info!

Why on earth are they recycling the term "bootleg"? There is already a well-used musical definition of bootleg (unauthorized recording), and now it seems to be used as synonymous with a mashup? Am I missing something?

I think bootleg refers to any type of illegal copy of a product, so it fits pretty well. In this sense though bootleg (as opposed to Mash-Up) refers more to unsolicited remixes of songs, specifically where some pirate has written original material to back an accapella.

But hey, even words like 'gay' and 'Windows' and such mean different things than they did 40 years ago.

In general terms, that's what it means, but there is/was already a HUGE "bootleg" music community dedicated to live recordings of concerts.

I still think using it for an "unauthorized remix" is really annoying.

true, but what can ya do?

It might be that the word has less of an established meaning in Europe where the Mash-Up culture started...

Darn darn darn darn darn!!

If I had known this was happening I would have so made plans to be there. I hope other people go so it will happen again.

I am so in love with Bootie in SF that I can't wait to see it here in Seattle.

Mashups are pretty much all I listen to anymore. :)

w00t!

Well, it goes all they way to 2am-ish, so maybe you can make it down...

But if you help me get the word out it'll ensure bigger, better FrankenBoots in the future... the next one might beon New Year's DAY, so we'll need a lot of help getting people out for that one...

this is awesome and now I'll be checking for updates..is the rebar thing regular now?
