Comic Con Rooms Available!
This year's online room booking for ComicCon was a nightmare. Not sure why, but this year did seem to be about 100x worse. We managed to get our rooms, but much farther away and with much more effort than last year. That said, a friend of mine made a big goof and thus she has rooms to sell:
Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
Wed, Jul 25, 2007 to Mon, Jul 30, 2007
Non-smoking, Late Check-in

The hotel is on the shuttle route.

There are two rooms available, $1,514 each.
All taxes and additional costs are included in that amount.
My friend accidentally booked these through Cheaptickets without reading their fine print (*sigh*) and she can't cancel them without forfeiting $605 and she had to pay in advance, so I'm trying to help her offload them. We're not trying to make any money off of this, not trying to sublet or anything fishy. The price is literally exactly what she paid for them. They're causing us no end of hassle, so I'm trying to find a solution that will be beneficial to all involved.

If you're interested, please drop her a line at pab5225@yahoo.com to work out the details. This is a great hotel - let's make a deal to help us all out.

Actually, that hotel is right across from the airport, a couple miles from the convention center. (It is, however, right on the shuttle route, so still convenient.)

That's so misleading. I'm the one who did this misbooking and I went by Comic Con's hotel listing which said "Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina" is 1/2 a block from the convention center. After reading your comment I checked with mapquest and you're right. How is this possible?

I'm going to crawl under a rock. *sad*

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's a typo on the SDCC site. The hotel's own web site places it right across from the airport.

Like I said above, though, it's still a decent SDCC hotel. I've stayed further away than that and still walked to the convention center every day. Sheratons have awesome beds, too.

Don't worry... someone will pick up the rooms.

Thank you for the support.

I don't know if you were trying to get rooms today, but the site wouldn't load for us so many times and I lost three different reservations I was trying to get processed (they timed out), so I decided to go off site and used the info Comic Con had listed as guidance. I wish I knew San Diego better so I would have caught the typo.

Again, thanks for pointing out the location of the hotel and keeping up my confidence. :)

No problem! I only know because I've made similar errors in years past.

Booking hotels for SDCC is a bear, and it gets worse every year. It's not the con's fault -- it's the fact that downtown San Diego can't easily absorb that many people. As the convention continues to grow, bookings become more of a problem. If you can get a hotel for a decent rate within three miles of the convention hall, you're doing really well.

So don't worry. That's a fine hotel location, and you'll find takers.

It's $1514 for EACH room? So, over $300/night?

Yes. That includes taxes, which are pretty high, IMO. If you have 3 or 4 people sharing with you, $300 a night isn't bad at all.

That's actually about par for the course for SDCC weekend. Almost all of the hotels in the area are above $250 per night (pre-tax).

Really not true... I am on the con shuttle route and about 25 min walk if I decide on it... room with 2 queen beds and free wireless internet at $84 a nite... Stayed there the last 5+ years and I make my reservations the week after I get back from san diego... I've had my reservation for almost 7 months now...

COmfort Inn or Quality Inn.. It's on Ash across from the El Cortez...

They are usually booked within a month or so of Con the previous year..

I usually have two other people going so it's about 30 bux a nite...

Yeah, there are exceptions to that rule. The J Street Inn is even cheaper, and right across the street from the convention. However, those spots are rare, especially this close to the con. Everything else is $250 and up.

500 West is the only reasonably affordable hotel on the convention's list, as far as I'm concerned.

Had a thought for you... If you don't find any takers on this community, try hitting the following sites:

http://www.fanboyradio.org
http://www.comicgeekspeak.com
http://www.digitalwebbing.com

All three sites are frequented by tons of comic pros and fans, and all three have forum areas on the sites. Go make a post on any or all of those three, and you'll more than likely find takers.

Yeah I called them and they said they are like two miles from the con. :( I cancelled the reservation I had made there. You can probably cancel as long as it's before July 3rd.

I can't cancel. Cheapticket's policy is to charge one night cancellation fee no matter how early I cancel. That's $603 for nothing! :(

From now on I'm booking direct.
