Ronin is 1 year old today! [14 Jul 2009|07:20pm]

rolersk8ngrl
He got his first cupcake today for his FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!! (Well Daddy took off the frosting and only let him eat 1/2 of the cupcake tonight so he wouldn't overload from the sugar!!)

Waiting patiently...

Trying to eat the whole thing in one bite...

Right before Daddy made him drop it to save the other 1/2 for tomorrow...he saw Daddy's hand coming closer...

Buddy-Blue's grooming rage [13 Jul 2009|01:18pm]

[ mood | frustrated ]

Hi everyone!

As a lot of you know, my mini is a rescue pup who has a lot of issues. This latest one is a biggie though: He doesn't like grooming. The other dogs @ the groomers make him over-aggressive (b/c he's scared he won't be protected), and when trimming his butt/desnagging his fur he snaps at people if he doesn't chomp them outright.

We kind of got around this for awhile by my husband clipping and grooming him (and doing a pretty great job too!) but my husband is away with the Army @ the moment and frankly, I'm not as tolerant with Buddy's biting/snapping as my husband is. I let the vet know about this problem and he gave me a sedative to try if Benedryl didn't work (it didn't). I test-drove the sedative last night and it was scary as heck -- He couldn't stand hardly and he was dragging his back legs like he was stroking out, but when I brushed him he was still bitey. I have no idea how he managed to be nasty while sedated, but there you go. It wasn't even hurting him (I was very gentle), he just doesn't like the brushing.

I'm at my wit's end b/c it's too hot out for the amount of fur he has (111 degrees yesterday), he looks *horrible*, and now I know the sedative doesn't work. It's not the groomers that are bad -- They're great @ the place we used to go to but they told us last time if he bites again, they won't groom him anymore. The only thing I'm waiting on now is a call back from the vet.

We've done a lot of behavior work with him, and he can be a real cuddle muffin, but I'm tired of him getting kicked out of every groomer we've gone to the last 3 years for being a biting little jerk.

Bizarre question [08 Jul 2009|11:29pm]

Buddy-Blue likes windows. Peeping out of them, I mean. Unfortunately, all of the panes he peeks from now are clouded from his wet little nose. And it doesn't come off, no matter how much Windex I spray on it.

How do you de-goo your windows?!

My pup, Luna, has made this noise from day one.
Happy, sad, angry, excited, or what-have-you, Luna's there to make you smile and giggle with her silly noises.
When we see her we often use the noise in greeting and she returns it, and she ALWAYS argues. She's a mouthy one ;)

Ronin doing the Doggie 500! [04 Jul 2009|05:58pm]

rolersk8ngrl
Click this link, I took a video of Ronin doing the Doggie 500 on Friday night...for some reason when I try to embed it here it won't work...so the link should take you to the video.

Does your baby do this? My husband and I did not provoke Ronin or get him all rallied up. I was
watching tv and he just went crazy.

Grooming Question!!! [24 Jun 2009|10:59pm]

scoopsltb

My groomer gave me the whole "HOW TO" scoop and "what to buy" today (because she's awesome) and I know exactly what she told me to buy, but we didn't discuss the difference between steel or ceramic edge blades.

Is anyone familiar with either? Ceramic sounds better - but I question if it really IS better. ALSO...what size blade do you use on your baby for the summer? And, any grooming tips would be greatly appreciated!

THANK YOU... and so this isn't just text.

Craaaaaaaaaaazy man [24 Jun 2009|07:06pm]

rolersk8ngrl
So Ronin gets pissed when I ask him to "get back" or back-up. And when I wave my hand he backs up but
gives lip service and attitude...today I held the camera and asked him to back-up and captured these shots...

He is a love bug in person...but these shots are funny.

Don't wanna run into him in a dark alley

Crazy man

Smile!

So I decided to go ahead with Cady's surgery and she had the cataract in her left eye removed this morning. I dropped her off at 7:30 and I was allowed to pick her up at 2:30. She's doing pretty well, although she's (understandably) a little out of it this evening. :)
We go back for a follow up next Monday, and they sent us off with what seemed like a whole pharmacy. She'll be getting two different eye drops and three different pills for the next 10 days to 1 month. She also has to wear an e-collar (a.k.a. Cone Of Shame) for the next 10 days.

Here she is, getting ready to go home:

I took Cady back to the opthamologist today, and she will be having cataract surgery on her left eye on Monday. I'm a little nervous about the whole thing. I'm afraid of the risk of her retina detaching or her eye not being to drain properly, and consequently losing her vision completely. but she's so young and I want her to have the chance to see. She's not completely blind yet, but her cataracts are getting larger and she's not seeing much.
Has anyone else had this surgery done with their dog? If this was happening to your dog, would you have the surgery?? I haven't ruled out canceling to take some more time to think about it..

Just because I have to post a picture.. making a mess:

Standard Schnauzer in the News [09 Jun 2009|09:55pm]

ookamiko
My dad and his Standard Schnauzer Sampson were in the news today! Sam is a cadavar search dog and was working the search for remains in Port Orchard, WA where a severed foot was found (the search has been on some of the national news sites). Sam's sister and brother are also search dogs and where on scene but didn't make it in the news.

Anyway - here is a link to the video: http://www.kirotv.com/video/19708204/index.html

And yes, Sam is really big for a SS. He weighs about 75 pounds.
