EV1 datacenter still down, here's Monday's update a little early
Here's Monday's update a little early. Props to Troy Belding of Bookworm Computing for his excellent assistance.

www.schlockmercenary.com currently resolves to a new server, but if that's not working for you, hit www2.schlockmercenary.com instead. Hopefully that will clear up any DNS caching issues.

That's too funny.

I read a sci-fi where the shuttle port was at the center of the rotating ship--To dock, they spun the shuttle to match the bay, went in, and an elevator took them down to the hanger. Don't know how well the elevator idea would work with a billion metric ton ship, but matching the rotation should still work.

That's the standard docking method for Elite, and for a few stations in X:Beyond the Frontier.

It's a bit tricky at first, but hey, every pilot scrapes the paint job the first couple times. :)

I _LOVED_ that game! I played it on my BBC Micro when I lived in Scotland.
Anyone know of a PC version that's playable under XP?

X3: Beyond the Frontier by Egosoft perhaps? i.e. the latest game in the series. They also announced the next game in the series that they will be releases.

Try Oolite.

Elite: The New Kind was another project to remake the original game, but was squashed a few years ago at the request of David Braben. There may still be copies of it floating around out there in space, but you'll need fuel scoops to pick them up.

Also, rumour has it that the name of EVE Online originally meant "Elite vs. Elite". The etymology of the German space sim Elite Starfighter is even more obvious.
