May. 22nd, 2008 @ 02:47 pm The Flowfield Unity Book
OK, the New Flowfield Unity print collection is now available from the website – www.theflowfieldunity.com

Despite all the advice, I've decided to make it by hand... printed, stiched and bound. And the plan is to make every copy an individual.

I've written a short article on why I decided to do this, you can read it here: http://theflowfieldunity.com/making-the-book/

All the best,

Hi Folks,

Great news!! Both Ben Dickson and James McKay will be at the Scar Comics Table at the Bristol Expo to sell and sign copies of Falling Sky and Marraquia. This will be a rare opportunity to get you copy of the beautiful MARRAQUAI comic signed by both creators, so make sure you pop along and say hi.

We'll also have copies of Dead By Dawn and Guts avaialable and Sally Anne Hickman's critically acclaimed Sex, Drawn & Rock N' Roll #4.

And last but not least... James Hodgkins will be at the expo exhibiting preview art from his new comic that I can't tell you anything about right now, as it's all hush hush, but one thing I can tell you is that the pages I've seen so far are outstanding!!

Look forward to seeing you there!

Shane

Nov. 15th, 2007 @ 02:17 pm Exhibiton Opportunity for artists:
2008 open opportunities for artists at the

Riverside Gallery, Richmond

Liveline: Comics Open (1 March - 13 April 2008)

Through its annual open exhibition opportunities, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham helps artists both locally and nationally to showcase their work in group exhibitions. In 2006-7, over 500 individual artists (excluding those participating in Arthouse) exhibited work in a range of open exhibitions across three galleries - Orleans and Stables Galleries, Twickenham and the Riverside Gallery in Richmond. Since 2005, there have been 4 exhibitions dedicated to or incorporating comic art. Deadline end of January 2008.

In 2008, we have further opportunities for you to submit artwork for the second of our comic open exhibitions. We are seeking original artwork (digitally created work is accepted) and printed comics by up-and-coming and established artists who are self-published or work for small-scale or independent publishers.

· Artists can submit up to 5 original works (and 5 comics) either via A4 sized photographic prints, colour printouts or high-resolution jpegs submitted on CD. Original artwork is not accepted. Comics can be submitted.

· Please clearly label each submission with: artist’s name, title of work, publication, date, media, approximate size and price before commission if the work is for sale (the gallery will add on an additional 40% commission to the artist’s price).

· In addition, please enclose contact details, an artists statement and if possible a CV.

· There is a £10.00 administration charge (which also contributes towards exhibition costs); £7.50 concessions (please include proof). Please make cheques payable to ‘L.B.R.U.T’. Your submission will not be accepted without payment.

· If you would like images or comics returned, please enclose a stamped self-addressed envelope.

Successful artists will be contacted by email or in writing approximately two weeks after the deadline.

Any queries, please email Mark De Novellis at m.denovellis@richmond.gov.uk

Feb. 26th, 2007 @ 12:41 am TELFORD EXPO
A bunch of the Scar Comics and Bics crew, including myself, Andy and James went along to the Telford Expo on Saturday, and had a grea time. We expected a predominantly sci-fi geek crowd not to warm too much to an indy comics crew, but to our pleasent surprise the day was a big success in many ways. James was kept bust sketching almost all day, and we even sold loads of Dead By Dawn and other cool small press titles.

There's another Telford Expo in September, but this time it;s a two day event, so we'll definately be there with our full range of titles.

We'll also be at this year's Bristol Expo, and of course, BICS 2007...can't wait to meet Mike Mignola!!

Due to some artistic and technical problems, Falling Sky and Guts are slightly delaying by 2 - 3 weeks.

However, these problems have now been resolved, and both titles should be available over the next couple of weeks.

Come along to the forthcoming Lancaster Comics Convention to buy your copies.

Ok Folks...
It's now official. The weekend of December the 9th and 10th this Year sees the opening of the first Birmingham International Comics Show! Organised by Myself, James Hodgkins, and Andy Baker (with a little help from our friends).

It will be held at the Famous Custard Factory Arts Complex, which is only a short walk from the centre of the City. Here's a link: www.custardfactory.com

There will be International and UK guests appearing, with lots of events planned all weekend, plus 30 tables have been allocated for small press and Indy publishers. (Including Scar Comics of course!)
There will be an exclusive Convention Bar open 'till late, and the first day of the convention will also be going on late with events and signings.
There will shortly be a website up at: www.thecomicsshow.co.uk so keep checking that for more information as it unfolds.
Tables for self publishers and small pressers are only 70 pounds for the whole weekend, or if you wish to share a table with another publisher (Saturday for one, and Sunday for the other) the price is 35 pounds for a single day. This is half the price of a Dealer table so a great bargain.

The website is still under construction, so if you'd like to find out more, you can email me - for now - at: shane@smallzone-comics-shop.com
