About

This is a peer review community, made up of comic creators, for the express purpose of providing a place where one's comics can be discussed with other creators and where meaningful and, thoughtful, and sometimes brutally honest criticism can be had.

This community is for the critique of the craft of making comics, not simply the making of comic _art_. Writers of comics are welcome to get critiques of elements of their writing, pacing, characterization, whatever you want, so long as it's about comics.

Membership is granted on the proviso that you provide some evidence (either in your LJ user info, a recent post, or a website listing) that you are involved in the writing, drawing, or creation of a comic. This is a necessary requirement because everyone who is in this group is expected to contribute both art and critique to the community.

Please note: This is not a community for pimping your comic. Such posts will be deleted without hesitation.

Process for getting your work reviewed:

Once you've joined the community and have work you want reviewed, create a post and detail:

  • What work you want reviewed

  • What areas you'd like the group to focus on (i.e. if you only want art crits, only want layout crits, etc)

  • Any other information you feel is pertinent to the crit

When posting work please consider the following:

  • Provide thumbnails where the image is greater than 600 pixels wide and link to the larger image

  • Provide direct links to your subject matter if you aren't inlining images.

  • Please keep the body of work to be reviewed small. (i.e. under 25 pages of full comic or equivalent 1-4 panel strip material.

  • It's not personal, please remember that reviewers are here to help and hearing the truth is very valuable.

  • If you've recently received a crit, hold off on your next one until others have had a chance.

As a member of the community you are expected to provide critiques to submitted work. Those who refuse to give back to the community will be removed from it -- that's only fair to the people who are giving and getting reviews.
