Under bed storage - clothes
smiling keys
[info]faded_wings
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or knew where I could find some decently priced under bed storage containers that are on the short side (height wise).  I tried one from Target that was 6.7" tall (I'm not sure if that's with the lid on or not though...) without the lid and it was just a bit too tall.  I tried to squeeze it under, but that was a no go, since there is a support bar running down the middle of my bed frame.  Any other suggestions would be great too.

Thanks!

Fabric on Cubicle Panels
Tattoo My Leg

I want to brighten a depressing grey paneled cubicle with fabric. Has anyone done this and have any tips they can offer? I was just planning to rip the tops of the cube off and tucking the fabric under there then tacking everything in place with t-pins.

Need help with color scheme / layout
[info]littlenick
Dear SaucyHelpers,

I've taken it upon myself to redesign my room in a way that I'm comfortable with.

Here's my layout

and here's a 3D sketch of how I imagine the room )

Expedit sale!

Any of you organization / ikea lovers...

Just wanted to give you the heads up, the expedit 5x5 storage shelving unit thing is on sale this weekend only for the same price as the 4x4 one. I noticed they were all priced at 159 on the website and so I called ikea hoping it was an error that I could snag a deal on... but I guess it's just not advertised.

I suppose this could double as a show me your ikea hacks / shelving post.

Can I get a shampoo nozzle for the tub part?
[info]kate_fascinate
Okay, this is a saucy question because I want to keep my sunflower shower head on without switching it back and forth.
- it's what makes my bathroom so nice!

I have a pooch, an adorable one that needs a bath! She's a big girl and I tried without a shower handle which was tricky.

is there a shower sprayer you can attach to the lower faucet so you dont have to remove the one on top?
Like most baths, the shape is square like so the sink ones will not do.

/sloppy entry I know. Sorry.

More Lamps!

[info]cgoldfish
Okay, the last post reminded me that I have a lamp issue myself.  My house has NO overhead lighting except the kitchen, hallway, and bathroom.  So I rely a LOT on table lamps and floor lamps.  Currently I have a plain floor lamp from ikea

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30145129

And it's totally "you get what you pay for" - unseemly cords that COULD be hidden inside the lampstand, a little wobbly - you get the drift.

But I'm also on a budget and cant' afford the gorgeous floor lamps I see elsewhere.

Any suggestions for lamps that throw off LOTS of light, at a decent price, that still looks a little modern?  I like the COLOR of my lamp, but not much else right now!

Saucy Shower Curtains?

[info]sibilance7
I'm moving to a new apartment and I'd like to get new bathroom stuff. Where can I find saucy shower curtains? My current one is from Bed, Bath, and Beyond, and it's okay, but it's not super saucy. I've never had shower curtains I really loved, so I want to spend some time and find the perfect one this time!

Liatorp sideboard

[info]evlilvxn

I'm currently using the Ikea Liatorp sideboard as our entertainment center in  our apartment. However, we're buying a house that has built in cabinets in the livingroom.

I was thinking of using it as a sideboard in our kitchen. I'm not loving the white laminate for the kitchen, though.

Here's a link to the sideboard for visual reference:

Does anyone have any ideas as to what to do tosauce this piece up? I'd like to paint it but am not sure if that would really work.

refinishing bamboo furniture / drawer pulls
[info]ethnographic
Hello all!

I have a (currently very ugly) bamboo shelf from the 80s. I actually like the scroll-y design of it, and I think with a little spray paint it could actually look really good, kind of like wrought iron. It has a clear, shiny finish that is mostly peeled off since we used it outside to hold garden stuff. I know I can sand it, but I'm not sure if there is a better way to get all those gross little flakes of finish off before I spray paint. I definitely want to go with glossy or semigloss paint, so I know all the little imperfections will show through if I leave chunks of the original finish. Luckily the piece is not too intricate (like wicker, for example) so getting into all the corners with sandpaper or stripper wouldn't be too difficult.

Has anyone here refinished furniture like this? Did you prime first?

Also, I am refinishing an old dresser and want some new drawer pulls. I am finding that all the ones I like are really expensive. I love antique glass knobs, but they're pretty pricey (I even have a few, but not a complete set, and the new ones are too shiny to match). Local stores don't have much selection. I looked on etsy without much luck. Anyone have a good source (especially online) for a wide selection of inexpensive knobs and pulls?

Thanks!

Good morning, fellow sauciers!

I created some interior design sets yesterday using Polyvore. I thought I'd share them and let you know about the site if you hadn't heard already. It can be a very useful tool for seeing how furniture and decor elements will worth together. Since you can play with the proportions, it's not good for space and layout planning, but it will tell you if that colorful sconce will clash with that Persian rug.

Here are my sets:

curtain suggestions.

hello all! i am switching rooms with my roommate & am going to need new curtains for my wonderfully large windows. right now my curtains are about the same shade of yellow as my walls & i'm quite tired of them. i want curtains that stand out, since they will be covering almost an entire wall of my new room. i am open to both patterns & solids, as long as they go with my room. thanks in advance, my saucy friends!

Expedit book cases?

[info]muier_noir
Has anyone used an Ikea expedit book case laid on it's side for anything? We're thinking of using one under our wall mounted flat screen but we can't decide. Any photos of your expedit book cases would be helpful. I'm sure this has been ask before, but I can't find anything searching through old posts using the tags. Thanks!

Second thoughts on a couch?
[info]daria5324
So my fiance and I just ordered a sofa from Pottery Barn (PB Comfort Sofa), which I'm stoked about, but am slightly worried about the color that we chose (Twill, Natural). Does anyone have this couch? Anyone have pictures of this couch? I'm having doubts because on the website the color looks slightly yellow, which I dislike. I want something neutral and so our accessories, pillows, etc. do the "styling". This is a very large purchase for us so I really want to make the right decision.

Thoughts?

Couch DIY/repair - update with finished photos!
ponder art nouveau
[info]nessaneko
Hey guys. A while ago I made this post regarding fixing a mid-century four-seater couch and whether it was worth buying. Having got y'all's advice on how best to fix it, I decided to go for it. It then sat in my bedroom for a couple of months waiting for me to get some free time and actually do the damn thing, but finally with a university break, I decided to sit down and get it finished.
Photobucket

Like a dolt, I didn't save or take photos of the couch before restoration, but if you didn't see my initial post, rest assured that it was ugly as sin. The fabric was a nubby, dirty lime green which had faded to brown in places and was incredibly pilled/scratched by a cat or something. The frame of the couch still needs sanding down to remove the flaking varnish - I'm planning to sand it down and give it a few coats of Danish oil, but it'll have to wait until summer when I can work out on the deck without worrying that I'll get caught in a downpour. (Please excuse the cords and related jumble - I need to figure out how to make them invisible without being too difficult to reach.)

More photos and description behind the cut! )

New place, lord-e-lord.

So possibly the coolest thing ever happened.....found a historic apartment I absolutely love. Landlord is great. Not only giving us the freedom to paint as we please, but because we're willing to paint over the old crap (I use crap loosely), he opened a line of credit for us at a local place, and all of our painting is funded!

Oh the possibilities.

On we go. )

Custom fabric for a chair?
[info]littlepinkdress
Hello saucy helpers!

I've been hoping to reupholster a chair of my boyfriend's, which was his great grandfather's. It's a fairly saucy little chair, and holds sentimental value for him, so I'd like to re-do it in exactly the same fabric it already has.

However, google searches haven't turned up any matches, as I assumed would happen. He suggested having it custom made, which sounds great but I'm still not finding anything.

Lots of sites allow custom fabric printing, but nothing that we could use for upholsterying, so I thought I'd swing by and see if any of you might have some suggestions. Thanks!!

PS...I'd include a picture of the chair but it's in pretty rough (read: not-so-saucy) shape...hence the upholstering :)

EDIT: I've added a close-up of the fabric.

Mixing and Matching...
dont understand
[info]goodgirlzero
I was wondering how you guys mix and match furniture and still make it look good? My husband and I rent our furniture right now from our apartments, which we hate. We decided it would be cheaper to stop renting and start buying. Right now I am doing a mass search on craigslist of things and its really hard to find things that I think that will go...
So... Furniture that you would never imagine putting together because of different styles but then you end up having to due to budget. How do you do it?

Fiberglass Shell Chair

[info]brookin82
I just found this chair at my local antique/junk shop for $5! It has no distinguishing marks on it to indicate if it is an Eames or other prestigious brand. Anyone know how I can distinguish if it is worth something?

My main issue is I kind of want to change out the legs. There is modernica.net or ebay where I could buy new legs for it (like the eiffel style legs). Has anyone done this before? Anyone know how hard it would be or if it would even work?
