A little updating
Since it was Christmas time when I posted my loft (http://community.livejournal.com/saucydwellings/1498236.html), there were a lot of things that were bound to change. Right now we're just trying to keep it crisp and airy and make it our little summer sanctuary. Thought I'd update on a few things we've done lately.

My fish has a pretty good view of everything on his little molded record perch... which I originally made as a bowl to keep fruit in lol.

Some plants have really brought color to this part of the room and the fresh basil on the red table seriously makes the air small so fresh!

We hung some records on this wall to fill some of the gigantic void which we're always looking for things to cover. We measured and this wall from our front door to our loft windows, is 60 feet long.

The table always looks nicer with fresh flowers!

Bar stools have really made the kitchen area a wonderful social area and I don't know what we ever did without them! We are constantly having people over and preparing and serving meals out of our kitchen is a true joy.

Though still a work in progress, (I still think it looks a bit bare, but we've basically decided to focus on it last...) all in all the bedroom has come a long way from this:
bedroom

To this:

(I used flash in that one to capture my little fluff balls...)

This was my answer to my husband keeping his headphones in the bedroom... I don't like them just laying there... but I also don't like listening to him watching you tube videos about kick drum sounds while I'm trying to sleep.

Once we paint, I think everything will really come together, I think that will be our project this fall. And by our project, I mean we'll hire someone so we don't mess it up.

It's the Ikea Malm Bed.
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/S19849842
with one side table
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80104334
and dresser
http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80103344

The bed itself is amazing... though I put the dresser together and the bottom drawer doesn't like to open, but that's Ikea for you lol.

I really love the bedframe though and to be honest, I was scared it would be cheaply made seeing as it was only $200, but I'll be honest, my husband weighs like 300lbs and I chase the animals through here like we're little kids playing and it's taken some abuse!
I always make myself take the time to tuck in the blanket... it's kind of a hassle, but it's so worth it for the impressive look!
The bed spread is from Ikea as well.

it is officially an amazing space.

just curious, have you heard (its totally possible that its not true) that round bowls cause fish to go blind?

Never heard that! I can be sure he's not though lol... when I walk near his bowl he ALWAYS begs for food! He sees me and swims around back and forth until I give him a little nibble! lol

No, not true at all. However, small bowls will cause goldfish to die an early death. OP, you may want to think about updating your fish to a larger tank with a filter.

Hilariously, these were images I found online and printed onto several sheets of paper, cut out, glued together and hung up there, from a distance, they look like cloth or rice paper. If you google Japanese watercolor or Japanese paintings, you can find quite a bit of stuff. There are some sites that have many many paintings. I have a japanese style full sleeve and really want a back piece. I'm not Japanese... but I just love the culture. The art is just so wonderful.

Most of the stuff we get from Ikea falls apart after a few washes, but to be honest, for the price it looks great while it lasts... I don't mind getting something new every season.

I got it at Kohls for like $5 about 5 years ago. I love it! We got it for "when we have a kid someday." Though my husband adores it and keeps it on his side of the bed haha.

it's carpet and lenolium. Not very sassy, but at least it's kind of a gray color instead of that weird marbley brown that is usually in rental places. If we owned it, I would rip it all out and put in hardwood in a heartbeat!

Very spiffy. Between my family reunion in Cleveland last year and your loft posting, Ohio in general is starting to look a whole lot cooler than I imagined. :D

I feel like a bit of a hypochondriac, but I must admit that my 1st thought when I saw your peeling paint was 'I hope that's not lead paint'!

ps: I really like what you've done with the bedrooms. Simple, and livable and personalised. nice.

Haha this was the first thing my mother said. We've been assured it's not lol.

I love all the little flaws in the wall. There's an area where there used to be some sort of window which was bricked over. Also some funky metal bolts and such sticking out here and there. I love every one of them haha.

That's funny that you live in a loft in Dayton and have a husband that listens to kick drums and tours. My boyfriend lives in Kettering and is an amazing drummer who will find himself in LA sometime in the next two years. Small world :)

Thank you so much, I feel so lucky to live in it. Thankfully I live in a small city that still manages to keep a "bigger city urban" feel to it and there are several places downtown that have been converted into lofts like these.

For this city, they are some of the most high rent properties, but that's keeping in mind you can rent a pretty large house with a basement, garage and a yard for around $600-700 around here.
That said, we pay more than that, but it's less than $1,000 a month. While some of our friends/family think it's silly that our rent is more than their mortage, we know our rent would be at least double in a big city and we just love being here!
