hi, i'm kristine. i'm 21 years old. in august, i moved to the los feliz area of los angeles from boston. almost all of the furniture is ikea, and i really dislike that, but i'm too poor/busy to find the mid century modern pieces that i want. i'm pretty sure i've never posted here before, but i got a lot of good responses from ourbedrooms so i figured i'd give this place a try too. i like constructive criticism, but i'm thinking about moving back to boston soon.
i live in a two family house, my apartment is a four bedroom. almost all of our doorknobs are glass.
my desk is actually a dining table because i need space. i don't usually compute at my desk as i prefer to be in a horizontal position as often as possible. my real desk is my bed.
oh god, i have so many knick-knacks.

painting is mine but it's unfinished. (i'm a student at otis college of art & design.)
cluttered dresser. two five train case holds a lot of my jewelry. the little bowls, light, and tray are from ikea.
inside the train case.
my secret organizing technique is using a bead/craft organizer to keep necklaces from tangling. i use it for the ones i wear least often.

shitty picture but this light is really pretty.
prints and posters i haven't hung up yet. arcade fire, piebald, and a print from my old roommate.
the chair itself. goodwill, eagle rock, ca. $5!
the ottoman is from target and it's perfect to put my laptop on so i can watch a movie in bed. the painting is from my painting iii class. small frame from ikea. big gold frame was found in a dumpster in boston.
classy mattress on the floor. i'm having a hardtime finding a platform bed that i like. the wrinkled blanket is actually the organic pintuck duvet cover from west elm.
above my bed.
shelf, yardsale in silverlake. should i repaint it? all the photographs are from the melrose trading post, not my family.
i don't know if i like the boxes on the bottom shelves. they're from home depot and were cheap so it's a temporary solution until i can afford $30/piece west elm boxes.

i have a camera buying problem. the kodak doesn't work.
color wheel plate. the unicorn and owl were gifts.

jar holds my matchbook collection. clock is broken.
this gives you an idea of how bright my room actually is. the rest of these photos are lying.

pictures of the rest of my house:
i have 5 other roommates and they decorated before i moved in. it's not really my style but some things i like. the chandeliers are my favorite; they were already here.

the only shot i have of my room at my parents house when i was 18.
my old apartment in the city, when i was 19/20.
i miss the storage of the ikea bookcase, but it's too big. the red chair was a gift from my ex boyfriend. the couch is the klippan from ikea and it sucks, don't buy it.
this is where i used to hang keys and stuff. i bought it at an antique store in ipswich, mass and touched the painted up with more white spray paint.
the table is the same thing i currently use as my desk, and used as my desk at my parents house. the divider is built into the apartment.
vintage wood sconce painted white.
most recent room at my parents house. i've sold just about all of the furniture though, and now that i might move back i am regretting it.
the bird is from the dollar store, i spray painted it white.
the frame used to be tacky but i spray painted it white. i do this a lot.
i have this built in shelf/ window sill type thing along an entire wall of my room. i tend to keep lots of little stuff on it. my amma (icelandic for grandmother, not babytalk) sent me this for my unbirthday.
my shelves before they fell off the wall. as it turns out, magazines are pretty heavy.

the blue thing was an unbirthday present from my amma when i was little. the vases are from ikea.
desk, which is really a four person table from ikea, and a big mess of projects on it.
typewriter that i got for free on craigs list. this sits right in front of the desk, on the other side of my chair.
this is where my polaroids go. vintage, from the salvation army in saugus, ma.
this was my favorite part of my room. i miss that bed.
a couple of my 5" by 5" paintings on my wall. hopefully i'll have a bunch more up there within the next month. close up one, close up two
there is a fireplace behind the plywood. this was originally my headboard, and i was going to paint it or put a real headboard in front of it, but opted out. i haven't decided what to do with the first frame. the second is a print from an art show i worked on at the montserrat gallery in december 2006 featuring jeff soto, dave kinsey, aaron white, and the date farmers. the third is from an event i volunteered at in december 2007 at boston university, a tribute to melissa green.
what my nightstand looked likeh i miss having a night stand.
the drawers were full of my prints.
original location of the bookcase
the frame is from anthropologie. the print is the first picture i took with a manual film camera in 2004.
i love looking at the books people have in these posts, so i thought you might too. these are only about half of my books, the rest are packed away.
books.
books. skinny bitch is a little embarrassing, but there is a lot of great advice for vegans/vegetarians as well as organic food.
books. i don't know why the quality is so bad. i'm still adjusting to photoshop elements from paint shop pro.
books.
EDIT: Sorry guys, I guess I ran out of bandwidth on my website. I uploaded them to flickr and fixed the links. Also, my apologies to the mods for not recognizing the new laws. I'm not going to change it because that would make so many comments irrelevant. If anyone wants to to see updates when I move back home next month, I suggest adding me here or on flickr. It's pointless for me to post here, on another saucy community for objects, in addition to my livejournal, flickr, and ourbedrooms. I strongly feel that small objects and details can make or break a room, which is why I always include close-ups. I don't like looking at designer rooms with no personality or general shots of rooms and then wondering what that box is in the corner that I can't quite make out. That's just me. If this offends you, just scroll past, please. Moderators, feel free to delete it or I will if you ask.
