Office Space
I haven't posted here in years, and this is not my dwelling, but I spend more of my waking hours in this room than in my apartment. I recently switched offices and finally got around to "decorating". I had no input into the furniture, though I did some rearranging, and the wall was already painted blue. It's amazing how a few framed things and some curtains on the wall can make a place feel more inviting. (photos x-posted in my journal)

I don't have any before pictures, but just imagine everything the same, but without anything on the walls or windows. Also, the person who was in here before me was a pack rat who had been here for YEARS and had piles of boxes lining the walls. There was barely any room to maneuver the space and everyone who sees it now is amazed at how much bigger it seems.

I used the 3M Command Strips to hang these. The idea is that you don't have to poke holes in the wall and they're supposed to come off cleanly, but I tried to reposition one and accidentally tore a huge chunk of wall paint out. OOPS.
Drawings by [info]808080, Photos by [info]mimle, + a piece of art my boyfriend bought me:

View while sitting at my desk. Kind of blah. I wish they let us paint more than one wall. (Posters by kozyndan):

Curtains were from Target, as well as the bowls which I'll eventually plant some succulents in. (Poster from aestheticapparatus.com):

EDIT: I pulled the curtains to the side, as suggested by one user, but now I can't decide which way works better. Thoughts?

Thanks - my floor is kind of boring, but I'm glad we don't get stuck with white walls only.

Sorry, the building has a bunch of paint swatches they let us choose from, but someone else chose this blue before me.

Thanks - all my mess stays contained in my computer - or in my desk drawers! I'm a closet messy person. :)

Thanks! I really wanted a black and white decorative print (which they also had at Target) but those were out of stock and 2x as expensive as these anyway.

it's so cute!
My one suggestion is to pell the drapes to the side rather than gather and tie in the center; it doesn't set the right tone for an office, in my opinion, but they'd look great drawn to the side.
I have to say, though, my favorite thing in your office is the succulent on your desk. It's adorable.

I originally envisioned gathering the drapes on the side instead of the center, but I didn't purchase any hooks and only had some ribbon to tie it. I suppose I could just do a cheap rig up with some scotch tape on the wall :)

I fell in love with succulents last year when I discovered everything else was too difficult to keep alive. The two I have here started out from cuttings and lived on my apartment stairwell for the past 8 months. I decided to bring them to the office since I'll be moving in a few months anyway.

i think you should leave the curtains tied as individuals, in the middle of their respective windows, and not pulled off to the side. it makes them -- and the space -- far more striking. you get to decorate to that extent, take full advantage of it! :D well done!

Yeah, I originally thought of having them to the side, but ended up tying them in the middle because it was easier. After seeing both, I think tied it the middle works better too.

Love the color and curtains, and I'm so jealous of your mares tails! I can't grow them to save my life. Oh, and I'd go curtains to the side, no ties.

Is that what they're called? I have a bunch of different sized pots in varying degrees of sunglight and generally, the bigger the pot they better they do. I water them once a week at most. The ones in brighter sun are fatter and lighter, and the ones in shade are thinner, but more of a minty green color.

I liked the curtains as you had them, before the pull-back. Bottom line is, how do you like them - since you're the one who will be walking into them daily.
As to the rest of it, I think you did a great job of cozying up what must have been a rather antiseptic space. Bravo!

I love your room! The curtains are particularly gorgeous. It's funny- I've got a single blue wall in my office too, it made such a difference, but I have to admit, my office isn't half as cozy looking as yours!

Thank you - the painted wall is definitely a great perk, but the place didn't really come to life until I put up the pictures and the curtain.

I work at a music company, but I deal with graphics, not the music.

Good eye - It's my favorite book too. I recently enjoyed "Water For Elephants" - it's not as long or anything like Time Traveler's Wife, yet it kind of swept me away and gave me that same "good book" satisfaction.

It's a band poster for the Submarines which I found on http://www.aestheticapparatus.com. It's really cool - screen printed with silver inks and everything. They have a lot of other neat posters there too. I had a hard time choosing.

Thanks - yes the shade was already installed. It looks like a canvas type of weave, but the material is actually some sort of vinyl or plastic. It does a nice job of filtering some of the harsh light - but it still gets pretty bright in here.
