sauce (in progress)
i moved from bushwick, brooklyn, to san francisco, california two months ago.
this was my old place, an 800 sq. ft. converted factory one-room loft, near the L line:

the new place is an ~850 sq. ft. more traditional apartment built in the mid-1960s on a hill near the haight/castro looking toward the pacific ocean.
from one sea to the other shining sea, i guess you'd say. :)
for those who might be interested: what the SF place looked like empty:

(some quick and dirty empty apartment shots are at the beginning of that set)
kitchen, bedroom, and bathrooms are still in a major state of flux at the moment. and i still want to change stuff, paint, and move stuff around, but it's moving toward comfortable as the weeks and months pass. i'm trying to be more controlled this time around with colors, and acquisitions and choices. we (me and the husband) have gotten rid of quite a lot of stuff and the whole feeling is a lot cleaner than our old place, which i really like.
but...i'm by no means minimal. it's just not me, though i ADORE looking at such spare modern spaces. i prefer a controlled, maximalist approach: bright colors mixed with some neutrals, modern pieces with hand-made touches, like bright, deliciously tacky yet carefully chosen accents in needlepoint, fibers, afghans, quilts, and ceramics/glass.

anyway.
the new place:

this coffee table was a recent acquisition; it's from the 60s-70s and was hand-tiled by an artist, perhaps a ceramicist/potter?:
new custom made jonathan adler pillows (i picked the color combos):
i want to add more needlepoint/bargello pillows to this couch as time progresses. i'm thinking of hand-making them, myself, as i am way into the needle arts (fashion design, sewing, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, etc.)
ikea chairs that will hopefully eventually be replaced with eames plywood lounge chairs in walnut, when we can afford it:
also want to get a flokati in the living room...eventually. probably in cream or perhaps beige/tan?
where the art/craft magic happens. it's cluttery over here but getting better:
