[Uln/Aster][2] Picking up Chicks

[XP: 2]

Dan's headed off to the suspicious old town where we've tracked Char's sister. He's probably well able to take care of himself, and likely to draw the attention of whatever's living there. I just hope this doesn't end with another murder or other crime getting pinned on him.

Meanwhile, we're working on the case of the evil magical deadbeat dad. From the information the Crystal, the client, gave us and the background research Sam did, we have three likely candidates for Jason's father.

Our first candidate is Max Newman. He's a necromancer, in the literal sense of the term - he speaks to the dead and learns from them. Mostly what he learns is information which he can then use to blackmail the still living. He claims he's giving peace to the restless dead, but it's funny how that always seems to coincide with making money. He lives in an apartment in the city, in a gated community, with very good security.

Candidate number two is Napoleon Marino. Napoleon likes to pick up young and pretty disciples, who don't last more than a few years. None of them have actually died while still his disciples, and there's no proof he's causing their decline, but they do die. He claims to be searching for the truth, but doesn't seem to be clear on what it is. Lives in an apartment in the city.

Then there's Charles Mundling, the most secretive of the three. What we can tell is that a Charles Mundling came into the country as an adult in the 1920's. There's a Charles Mundling around now, who seems to be the same age as the Charles back then, so either he has life-extending abilities or the current Charles Mundling is a descendant, or a clone, or something. Charles is secretive, and never leaves his townhouse. He interacts with the outside world via his minions, who do not discuss their master's business.

How do we find out which one of them is the father? There's no way we're getting a blood sample or any other kind of genetic data on them. No competent sorcerer is going to let that kind of thing get out, and Crystal won't let us take a blood sample from Jason anyway. Physical means are out, and there's no way I'm getting close enough to any of these guys to take an aura reading. Sam suggested that we might be able to get some kind of personal effects off them for me to read, but even that's going to be tricky. They're not going to let even something as simple as hair or nail clippings fall into our hands. This triggered Sam to give a lecture on clearing magical trace evidence, how to protect yourself magically with wards and such.

Honestly I have to even wonder if it's worth finding out which one really is the father. None of these are people we want Jason contacting. Crystal doesn't really care which one is the father - she just wants to discourage Jason from tracking them down. As dangerous as these guys look, it might just be better to fudge it and just come up with an answer that will stop him from looking further. Tell Jason his father is dead or in a home for the criminally insane or something. But Crystal is adamant about our finding out the trust, so we go ahead.

Sam came up with the idea of having Victor make some kind of medical scanning thingy to tell if people are related. It sounds like a good idea. Our targets are going to be protected against anything I can do, and on guard against more mundane surveillance, but I doubt they'll be able to predict the bizarre things that Vic comes up with. Victor says he can do it, but he'll need to be within 10 meters of the scan, and he'll also need to scan Jason. Crystal isn't happy about that, but we were able to arrange for her to take him to a mall where Vic was able to covertly scan him.

I managed to get a look at Jason at the mall as well. I can see he's got some potential. He seems to be awakening as he's going through adolescence. She's got some very good wards and shielding - looks self-taught - she'll probably do a good job teaching him how to protect himself as he develops.

Now that we've got the baseline scan, we need to figure out how to scan the potential parents. Victor's device needs to be close, and it needs to have line-of-sight. Mundling never leaves his townhouse. Newmann is a hard guy to follow. Marino's going to be the easiest one to scan - he's between playthings at the moment, and cruising clubs to look for a new one. Vic and Sam are heading out to try and get a reading off him.

[Villains][2] Humiliation to Captain Justice!

[XP: 2]

[info]grandbuddha, as Richter reports...

Herr Wise and Kurse seem intent on discovering the secrets of their puzzle box, stripping away layer after layer like some supernatural onion.

Some of us have more important things to do, like plan a caper or work on our tan or something. Tachnon worked on something called a V-Max on his suit, it sounds very impressive and he sounded quite impressed, as did everyone else, so I'll be happy for him. Honestly, it was a little over my head, and that's impressive. So while flipping through the channels we came across live footage of Captain Justice stopping a bank robbery, and he did that oh so arrogant pose he does when bullets bounce off his chest.... then his costume shattered like glass.

Hold on, still laughing... can't type when I'm laughing..

After that little fiasco, Dexter tried to capitalize on it by trolling at a Captain Justice forum. Trolling... that is the right word for it? I don't know... but Bah came up with the most lovely gifts for Portal, Eris, and myself. Lovely diamond earrings. Lovely, and perhaps a prelude to the next caper. Bah may be planning to hit the vault at De Beers. That'd be fun.

Portal also made contact with Doctor Entropy concerning the genetic material sample from Captain Justice. That should prove interesting...

So Portal and I organize a night out on the town, hitting various night clubs because, well, only an idiot would start a super fight in a nightclub, so it's the old Hide in a Crowd scenario. Portal and I persuaded Tachnon to come along, and Kurse said he'd meet us there, while Susano-o didn't need much convincing. Dexter however.... Dexter surprised me.

He used the image inducer to look like a rather handsome Calvin Klein'esqe male mink. I certainly approve, and if Dexter keeps making grabs at my tail, he'll get it and more.

I wonder if these image inducers can be made permanent....
