Community Profile

Founded in September 1995, the San Antonio Animation Society is a catch-all circle dedicated to the promotion, sharing and exploration of Asian pop culture, including anime, manga, Hong Kong movies, Asian live action dramas, Asian music, sentai, tokusatsu, video games, literature, and fandom history. Originally meeting on the fourth Sunday of every month, SAAS became a private social club in 2004, with infrequent public gatherings, usually at conventions. Currently, SAAS has reopened for public meetings, usually on the fourth Saturday of every month. The atmosphere is very casual, low-key and often times educational, as many of our members have been anime fans since the mid-1970's and are always willing to share a story of the "good old days". Our officers have remained continuous since the formation of the club, and have worked to carry on the torch that was passed on by FAST (Fans of Anime in South Texas) and the C/FO (Cartoon/Fantasy Organization) to preserve anime fandom history. 2009 will mark the fifteenth anniversary of the club, and we always welcome fresh faces at our gatherings.

If you are a fan of Asian pop culture or American geek pop culture in San Antonio (or the surrounding areas), you are welcome to join our little community. We ask that you have a good attitude, a friendly disposition, and please, keep all political or flame-inducing opinions to yourself. We're all about having fun and having a good time in a laid-back and legal fashion. We understand that as geeks, "we're all socially retarded, just a little", so tolerance of others is appreciated.
