AboutRP Language Club is a dressing-room-style RP community for people who are learning a foreign language and would like to practice it through roleplay. Just make a post in whatever language you're studying, and hopefully other people who speak that language will come play with you. A few rules and guidelines:
RPing in English is not allowed here, as there are already many, many comms on LJ where one can do that if one is so inclined. All other languages are welcome, whether it's a Romance language that's taught in every high school or an obscure African language with only two thousand native speakers or whatever the popular new conlang is these days. Just don't do, you know, Pig Latin or anything silly like that.
Native speakers are perfectly welcome to join in the fun, but do be aware that this community is primarily for people who are still learning, so if you have a low tolerance for people screwing up your language, this is probably not the place to be.
Correcting people's mistakes (in grammar, vocabulary, and the like) in a friendly way is all right, but don't be a dick about it. Constructive criticism, not OMG UR DOIN IT WRONG PLZ GO DIE.
You don't need to be fluent to play here, but you should be past the "The books are on the table. This is the cat of my aunt" stage. You need to be able to hold a fairly natural-sounding written conversation about whatever your character is likely to talk about. (This ought to be common sense really, but I've been around long enough to realize that nothing I think is common sense in RP actually is.)
Similarly, don't Babelfish. Just don't. It is really easy to tell.
Other than that, usual RP ettiquette rules apply. Don't troll, don't godmode, don't be a jerk to people, try to make at least a token effort to stay IC (although this is a dressing room, so it's not like that matters much), all that good stuff.
Characters from any fandom are welcome, and it doesn't matter if they actually speak the language you're posting in. Just assume the translation convention applies the same way it does for anime characters and the like in English-language games.
As for the setting... come on, it's a dressing room, do you think I've put much thought into it? It is a vague and nebulous place and your character has magically appeared in it! Whatever you want to be there is there. Go crazy.
