| Fanfiction - The Jungle Movie (first attempt) |
[Jul. 13th, 2009|12:22 am] |
Don't click until you read the note below!
( Part One. Arnold, Gerald and Helga set out for adventure. )
note: So. A BILLION years ago I became utterly fixated on Hey Arnold! Today, I still love it way more than I should. I guess there's just something about the show that will never stop striking some chord within me. It's more than just loving Helga/Arnold now. Hey Arnold! has become a second home. It's a part of me.
I fell in love with Hey Arnold! in the seventh grade. When I was little more than a baby, really.
I wrote my very first fic then. Not just my first fanfic - my very first story that I had actually sat down and typed out all for myself. It's in script format. Has little to no capitalization. Spelling atrocities abound. Grammar fail. It was all set to the Spirit Soundtrack (HERE!), because even though I hated that movie, I managed to find an entirely different plotline in the Soundtrack. It's also supposed to be my own interpretation of what The Jungle Movie would have been like and I was CONVINCED that I had basically produced a flawless script and that probably Craig Bartlett was going to ask if he could use it when he actually made the movie, because it was JUST THAT GOOD.
It's been... about seven years since then. I've grown. I mean, I'm still immature and obsessed with a silly cartoon, but I'm okay with that. Also, I capitalize stuff now! Sometimes to the point where THAT'S ALL I DO.
But I think it's about time I shared that very first story. Despite all of it's terrible, awful flaws, it still manages to make me love it.
So if you would like to see my wee beginnings as a writer and as a girl who loves HA! click the link. If you're going to be stupid and try to point out the bad stuff (which is ALL OF IT) just back out now. I'm not posting this for you guys as much as I'm posting it for me. But if you think it's kind of adorable in a weirdly embarrassing and childish way then go ahead and tell me so! Because that's what it is! :3 |

This Naturfrisk ginger ale I'm drinking right now is pretty terrible. I miss Canada Dry. The weather's been phenomenal this weekend, and somewhat uncharacteristically I've spent a good portion of it outdoors. On Friday I spent hours cleaning my car inside and out* and even ate dinner outside. Saturday I wandered around downtown for a couple of hours with no real purpose or destination. Today is Sunday on a work weekend, which means I feel like crap physically for most of the day. Even so I eventually coaxed myself into going for a long walk, first to the corner shop (where I bought this dreadful, dreadful ginger ale and some milk) and back, and then I went out again and meandered all over Vesturbærinn. I went out pretty late so I suppose I missed the best part of the day, but being outside is, to me, more about feeling warm and comfortable and less about looking like I'm perfecting my boiled lobster costume. We're starting to get periods of what's very nearly darkness during the night. The midnight sun (or white night) is nice and all but sometimes I wish I lived in a country with a more balanced approach to the night/day thing.
* Found in the process: Ancient hot dog wrapper with gobs of some sticky substance that was probably remoulade at one point; 55 krónur stuck on the inside of the driver's seat rail by way of some sticky and altogether mysterious substance (that was a bitch to scrub off my hands afterwards); the Joker from a deck of porn cards. And here I thought the car was clean when I bought it. |

Idea dumping for mgs_clichefic:
FIC
- AU where Otacon is a vampire. I have all the details for My Vampires Being Different that will let me whine about how MGS4 sucked make metastatements about the game as a whole, and it will be awesome once I figure out a plot for it. Maybe someone else needs to be a slayer or something? Maybe he can have mortal vampcombat with Vamp? I don't know. Ugh. Throw some ideas at me or this won't get written.
- Finish off that Snake/Otacon kidfic thing. I have about three pages and the plot hasn't started. I like it and I think it's some of my best writing (read - I can read it back and not cringe horribly several days after writing it), but - again, there's a lot of material I want to get and not a lot of plotting ability I have.
- The MGS/Twilight crossover Miri and I plotted while she was helping me with the dishes. ONCE AGAIN, while I have plotted out in my head how it fits in the verse, what Meyerpires are in the verse I'm making and so on (while conveniently ignoring the timeline because it makes more sense in my head for the verses to cross over during MGS4 but Bella needs to be a human for the plot to work), I still have no idea how to conclude the plot or make it all fit together. Right now I'm stuck on the fact that I've set Bella up to try to de-vamp Edward, but Bella would never do that even if she wanted to, and Edward would want to be de-vamped but would never let Bella do it, so basically I'll end up with the two main characters both wanting something but arguing about how they both want it and not doing it for no reason. However, this is IC, so I may leave it in as soon as I can figure a way out of the infinite loop which isn't 'AND THEN NAOMI KILLS ALL THE VAMPIRES AND EVERYONE CHEERS, THE END'. Also, I realise writing this will force me to ape SMeyer's prose, and I can't even ape my own prose most of the time; not to mention I'll have to actually reread the book to check that I'm doing it right, aaaugh.
I might end up giving up and just write a meeting between pre-MGS1 Snake and the Cullen family when they were living in Alaska.
- Blanketfic. I have the most terrible fondness for the whole blanket scenario, especially when it comes to forcing men to cuddle. The problem is that I can't decide if I should do Snake/Otacon or Raiden/Rose. On the Snake/Otacon end, there's the fact that I had the idea rolling around in my head like an old rotting pea in a thrown-out tin can for a while, which means I'll have a better idea how to set it up and what to do with it; there's the fact that the pairing would be more inclined to at least a semi-happy resolution; and also, it's my OTP. On the Raiden/Rose end, I could work it into the 'I'm afraid of the night! That's why I don't sleep next to you!' line; the main source of conflict will be based in canon rather than in headcanon; and everything else I write for this challenge will be Snake/Otacon anyway so it'll add some variety. The biggest problem is I can't figure out how I could make it have a happy ending.
VIDDING (yes, really)
- Linkin Park AMV About A Character Being Sad. Not sure how to twist it to make it creepy-awesome, though. Maybe tell a really weird story that's the total opposite of the lyrics' sentiments, or use some kind of insane remix, or something?
EDIT: HAVE THOUGHT OF AN IDEA, AND IT'S NOT A RIDICULOUSLY AMBITIOUS ONE. Now off to listen to some Linkin Park remixes. |

1. Robert and Susan got married today! I don't know if either of them still read LJ ever, but congratulations to them. It was a lovely ceremony, and it was nice to see a few old friends I hadn't seen in a while.
2. I've been listening to even more musicals in the car, recently. Quick sum ups: South Pacific is a masterpiece, Company is not, but has moments of brilliance, and it is a crime that more people don't know Caroline or Change. Perhaps I will write up longer, more coherant thoughts later, but if I don't, there you are.
3. I'm writing this entry on my brand new, shiny laptop. It is not, however, the laptop I ordered almost a month ago. Oh no.
( Because that would be too simple. )
4. Anyway, the upshot is, hopefully I will be more regularly online again. Because online, my friends, is often superior to offline in a variety of ways. (At least I got a lot of reading done, on my forced semi-hiatus.) |

ANd pretty much thinks us Roy/Ed fans are the childish ones... Well, coming someone who must have read all the Roy/ed fics ever to know that Ed never has automail so he never sees Winry and Winry is always dead.. it doesn't surprise me >_>
Glad to know there are so many good fics out there though ^_^ Which takes my mind off idiots who think they know everything about something they don't read >_>
ETA: I love how she says she hates yaoi, yet in her profile she says she supports Light/L. Way to fail more >_> |

After playing through the first chapter of the new Monkey Island game I went on a nostalgia fueled wikipedia trawl to recount the adventure game genre -- one I grew up with, and still enjoy, and am thrilled to see returning to life in one shape or another.
But that's not the point of this. The point of this is uh... this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Entertainment -- Note who wikipedia lists as last owning Sierra. I assume they still own it. You know what that means? That's right. Blizzard has the rights to Sierra's old games, presumably.
And Blizzard is working on a new mmo (Possibly space themed? I know everyone thinks it will be World of Starcraft) and I believe a new title they haven't announced yet. At seeing new life given to Monkey Island and Sam and Max dare I hope that one of those projects might be some revival of one of Quest games? Even if it is an MMO set in say... the King's Quest universe with some vaguely adventure-game-y quests, that would be enough for me. |
