Wow, long time no see.
Hi Ian,

You probably don't remember me, but I used to post on the (very buggy and post eating) old Keenspace forums, under the handle "FF Fanatic". What you may remember, for better or worse, is what I ended up doing at one point. I was part of a group of role playing forum members, who ended up making another forum for role play alone. I just wanted to get that out in the open, before posting the rest of this:

Your comic was one of the first on-line comic strips I started following, back during my sophomore year of college back in 2000. I still can't believe it's been that long, sometimes. I was usually a very shy and quiet person, until I joined your comic's forums. Talking with people there helped me to loosen up a bit, and slowly come out of my reclusive shell. Eventually, I became friends with several people there. While many of the posters eventually moved on to other things, I still chat with many of them today. I even met a few at an Otakon convention, finally meeting them in person. This is something that would not have happened, had we not all been readers of your comic.

While I realize this is all indirectly related to the comic itself, I just wanted to say thanks for giving us the opportunity to meet and befriend one another. I know the forums for the comic, and the comic itself, have caused you a lot of grief over the years. But I just wanted you to know that I enjoyed your comic very much, and that it had a very positive impact on my life. Thank you for sharing it with us, and helping me to make many good friends.

I'm sorry that you're not as fond of the comic as you once were, but I can definitely relate somewhat. I sometimes look back at things I wrote and came up with back in 2000, and wonder what the hell I was thinking. Thankfully, I've also seen some of my old ideas re-used later for much better things. I'm glad you're doing this too, even if it's just cameo character designs in some cases. It's nice to see you're doing well, and most of all enjoying your job to boot. I hope you continue to enjoy your work, and have fun with whatever you tackle next.

And, as cheesy as this is to end with, it feels appropriate.

Despite evidence to the contrary, I still think Eikre is Galgarion =P

Take care man, and good luck. =)

It may not mean much, I know what it is to drop a project and not want to come back to it. I really do hope you find that spark in the RPGWorld comic once again, I really would like to see what happens to the story. Even if it changes a bit, there's nothing wrong with a little variety.
Another thing that I must say, I enjoyed your comic and it made me want to create my own online web (someday). I have so many ideas but sometimes they just stay stuck in my brain. Anyways, perhaps even if you don't continue with RPGWorld, a new project is in order.

I think of the RPG World comic as that 'one rpg I got all the way to the end of and then never finished.' Except RPGW has a dragobo plushie.

I'm with FFF. I've gotten continuing years of awesome from your comic and the communities its inspired. When I'm not reading it, I keep the RPGW paperback on a shelf with other comics in our little apartment. (Which I share with my husband, who I originally met way back on the UBB keenspace forum...did I ever mention that? Yeah, that was pretty neat.)

What a touching and heartfelt essay; seriously!

I love the comic too, bought the book, ect.

As for never fininishing, isn't that what happens to half of the RPGs we start? The fun is in the potential; maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe never, but it's always there.

I hope the archives stick around, they're still fun to look back at.

>_> And even if the comic never finishes, I maintain hope that someday volume 2 will.

Also, I need to seriously check out other works by Ian..

And monkeys.

I began reading in Junior year of high school, and I checked for updates every other day up till last year (so for about 3 years). I'm glad I checked up on the site as I was cleaning up my bookmarks!

yeah just wanted to add, that nobody hates you Ian for stopping RPG world. It was a wonderful comic, no matter what regrets you have about it and it still has some really good memories for me. I'll miss it, but it's fine because I'm looking forward to seeing what new projects you come up with. Your my favourite online artist and i love your stuff!

LOTS of people hate him, especially after the way he snapped at the forum-goers.

But that doesn't mean he cares what any of them think. He's got a life, and RPG World isn't part of it anymore. He'd rather forget about it. It's like an ex-girlfriend he's ashamed to admit he was involved with.
