An e-mail to Ian J
Hey Ian.
My name is Emily, and you have no idea who I am.
About four and a half years ago, I ventured into the world of video games when a friend of mine came to visit, and brought this crazy contraption known as a "playstation" and these things called "Video Games" over to my house. Amongst these video games were Final Fantasy VII and IX, to which I very quickly became addicted. I played them non-stop, almost entirely ignoring his presence for that week he stayed at my house. Finally, he left, and took these games with him...Oh how I mourned the loss of my precious, precious games. I was about 15 at this point in my life.
I craved more RPGs, but I lacked a system to play them on, and my computer lacked the capabilites to use such crazy contraptions known as "emulators."
It was at this point a good friend of mine recommended this crazy thing known as a webcomic called "RPG World."
Whaaat?! What is this "webcomic" that you speak of? Upon begining to read it, I was immediately enthralled by it's humorous tale, and amusing characters. It was a couple of months later when I discovered an aquaintance at school also was a huge fan of your comic, and she quickly persuaded me to join the forums.
Since then, it's been one adventure after another, and I am proud to say that even since the original closure of the RPG World forum, there have been a number of us that have still retained that sense of community. We still have about 25 regular members from the orginal boards, and another 50 that pop in on a semi-regular basis.
The other day one of the newer members just started a thread announcing his one year anniversary on the forum, which got everyone started on how long each of us had been a part of the community, the oldest being about four years and seven months old. I thought it was neat how we're still all together after all these years, and kinda wanted to thank you for sparking it all. If it weren't for your comic, none of us would've ever met, and yet because of it a lot of us have been talking for years.
In that thread, one of the members posted a link to the comic that he had joined at, and I started reading through the comic again because of it. It's too bad you never finished the story, it was a lot of fun to read, and I've probably read through your archives six or seven times by this point, though this is the first time in about two or three years.
I was kind of curious if you were ever planning on finishing the comic. I figure that the answer is probably a no, but getting a solid answer would be nice. I just finished it this afternoon, and you really did leave off at quite the cliff hanger.
Anyway, I just thought I'd say thanks for all the fun and games.
If it's of any interest to you, the forum we're at now is www.thekidsarentalright.org
We've changed names multiple times since the original forums closed, but that itself is another story, which would take entirely too long to tell.
But yeah, as I said, thanks for all the fun you've given us. I think you've had a pretty big impact on most of our lives, which is saying a lot considering most of us have probably never even e-mailed you. All you're really known as is the infamous "Ian J." and yet you managed to bring all of us together.
It's been fun. Thanks.
-Emily
