Note: If you got an e-mail saying I'd like to add you to this community, but you have no interest, please feel free to refuse. The fact that I want you here in no way obligates you to oblige me. :-)
Now that that's done...
Hey, everyone. Welcome to the party.
This is a community intended solely for people in the RPG industry. Writers, artists, developers, editors--doesn't matter, so long as you work in the biz. (Since there appears to have been some confusion, let me specify: I'm talking professional work in the industry. Published and paid for.)
I'm referring, here, to pencil-and-paper RPGs, either tabletop or LARP. Some of us have also worked in computer RPGs--but if your experience is only in computer RPGs, this probably isn't the community you're looking for. Not that I've got anything against computer RPGs, or the folks who work in 'em. It's just not who I've created this community for.
Now, I'm just a freelance writer myself, but since I formed the community, I get to make the rules. Sucks, don't it?
Rule 1 THE PRIME DIRECTIVE: Make sure you make every one of your posts friends only. This journal is set up so only members can post, but there's no way (that I can find) to set it up so only members can read it. Since we want to be able to talk about stuff without other folks seeing it, you need to make sure all your posts are "friends only." This ensures that only community members can read it.
Rule 2: Keep it polite. Arguing is fine (and inevitable), as is friendly ribbing. But let's not get downright rude, okay? We're not RPG.net.
Rule 3: Nothing said or posted here is to be repeated to anyone outside the industry. You don't need to restrict your discussion to people actually in the community itself, since not everyone in the industry has a Livejournal (though sometimes it feels like they do). But repeating stuff to people who aren't in the industry will get you booted, to say nothing of bad-mouthed by a lot of your peers. :-)
Rule 4: Remember that while everyone here is in the biz, not everyone works for the same company. Be careful with those NDAs, folks.
Rule 5: I'm not going to insist that things remain 100% on-topic. Sometimes we just want to chat/complain with people who know where we're coming from, even if the subject isn't strictly related to the RPG biz. Let's keep such digressions to a minimum, okay? Not 100% on-topic, but at least 85-90%. And please don't post quiz results or the like. That's what personal journals are for.
Beyond that, everything goes (unless I decide to add more rules later, like the petty dictator I am). Have fun.
