This is a community for talking about rotten writing. Ideally, people should explain and discuss the trends in writing that bother them the most. The point? It's fun, and we all might learn something. Open to all genres and writing types, though the focus will probably be prose fiction and maybe some poetry.

To get the general idea, look at the first post.

Now for some rules. Rules subject to alteration at my whim. They may also be applied retroactively.

1 – No annoying or childish shit, like spamming or flaming. No off topic discussions. No posting images.

2 – Swearing and explicit content are permitted, so no whining about it. Put it behind an lj-cut if you feel it's necessary.

3 – Put spoilers behind an lj-cut. If you don't know how to use one, go read the FAQ page: http://www.livejournal.com/support/faq.bml

4 – No introduction-only posts. Combine intros with contributions toward the community topic. Also, keep introductions short. If I care about you, I'll look at your personal journal.

5 – No asking for critique. There are plenty of other places for that. If you're too dumb or lazy to find them, that's not my problem.

6 – If you have a rant or pet peeve to share, back it up with examples. Try not to bash individuals. This is a place to discuss irritating trends and, as such, you should be able to find multiple examples.

7 – Cite your sources and give authors credit for anything you quote—or even lightly paraphrase! Try to respect sites with specific directions for linking.

8 – Keep posts about grammar, punctuation and spelling to a minimum. Keep in mind standards for all three depend on geographical location. Complaints about gratuitous punctuation—such as Excessive use of Capitals for Emphasis or entire paragraphs of unnecessary italics—are welcome.
