16th-Jun-2009 03:22 pm - Newbie... and a question
Mmm unintentional innuendo
Greetings, all. Newbie here!

In more ways than one, haha. I was only introduced to The Dark Tower about a month ago by the Cuthbert player in my RP. I thought I should check out the canon of such an interesting character and ended up devouring the first four books in a week.

Three guesses as to who my favorite is. First two don't count. :)

So to make a shortish story shorter three books and an application later I ended up picking up Alain in my RP and out searching the internet for other fans to talk to. My search has led me here. So hi!

In related business, anyone know a good place for sharing Dark Tower fanfic? It sure won't get any readers sitting on my poor, neglected journal as it is.

Also...I have a tatt of a dragon. After I got her done, I named her Discordia. She has these little water bubbles floating around her. I decided to count them...yea...there's 19 of them. :)

Though this doesn't have to do with Dark Tower it relates to Stephen King fiction.

Newest episode of Family Guy, http://www.hulu.com/watch/72450/family-guy-three-kings , is about 3 King stories: The Body (aka Stand By Me), Misery, and Shawshank Redemption. Freaking hilarious!!

There is an SK cameo (not actually him performing) but I had to watch it twice I laughed so hard.
Enjoy!

I just finished writing my first organized academic paper on Dark Tower. It ended up being a 6 page argument that Susan's death by fire was a necessity. Ha! Let's hope my professor thinks it's decent.

EDIT: After I get my paper back from my Prof I might post a clip from it since it seems people are interested.

i just realized that people on here might not have finished all of the books so i won't go into specifics but those of you who've finished the series, I think, will get it.

I am 3/4 of the way through #7 and cried like a baby for about 25-50 pgs. straight. After I stopped reading for the night ( I'm forcing myself to read it slowly cause I know if will be over too soon anyway) I was still depressed for awhile, even a day later now, it keeps coming back into my conscious. Can't remember the last time a novel has hit me that hard.  But I guess it is to be expected, I've been reading these books for 10 years.

No real reason for the post except to get it off my chest to some folks who won't look at me like the world's biggest geek...hehe.

Long days and pleasant nights, everyone.

A while back, my friend [info]phoenixechoes got to talking about tarot cards and how great it would be if someone ever released a Dark Tower set. But since this isn't likely, I've started to make my own. Very, very slowly, but still.

For those of you who have The Long Road Home, are there extras included in the individual issues that aren't included in the compilation like there was with The Gunslinger Born?

Thanks!

11th-Dec-2008 11:55 pm - I'm such a tower geek
frog of truth
So I'm listening to Needful Things on audiobook, and as I'm listening, I'm wondering how it fits into the Tower canon. The same thing happened when I read Gerald's Game, except in that case, my mind decided that that was actually a victory for the King. I figure all of the other Tower tie-ins seem to be a win for ka, so I made up a little epilogue. Jessie's dad had done more than just manipulate her in her room that day, but since she was able to face what he did at the beginning of the eclipse, but not him going farther later in her room, she was able to get away from the Space Cowboy, but not stop him herself.

That, and while I was reading the ka-tet's reaction to the Rose, about how for every happy coincidence and tragedy avoided there was the rose, something occurred to me. All through the books, We hear about how great the rose is, except it's pretty much the physical manifestation of ka, and ka is a bitch. I'd love to see the other side of that coin. Rather than Albert Einstein barely being missed by that milk wagon, we could see all the worlds where Bobby Fornoy falls off of the plane he made, and dies before he can destroy the world with his calmative. Or all the worlds where the quality control people who made the safety devices for Project Blue were paying attention, and Charles Campion and his family all died inside Project Blue.

Anyway, those are my pointless points for the day.

Hey guys.

I don't know if this is the woman for whom Odetta Holmes was named, but the article struck me (she's a folk singer and involved in the civil rights movement?).

The VIP reception begins circa 5:30pm so I am standing in line waiting to be let in around 5:15pm. I chat with four women who are from Skeemers (sp?) an unofficial SK message board. They've been to SK talks before and have previously met the man. They calm my nerves a bit and I no longer feel like puking. A man behind us joins in on our conversation and I just listen to them all talk about other books, etc.

OMG the doors are open, here we go! I have to show my ticket to seriously, 5 people along the way. No party crashers allowed.
When we get in I'm not sure what to do so I chat with some other n00bs. Eventually this woman I'm talking with slides in to shakes SK's hand and they exchange a few words, her husband gets a picture, and then she introduces me (our rehearsed segue) and I shake his hand, the woman's husband takes a picture of my and SK (which they promised to email me and I WILL post that when I get it) and I say Thank you so much for coming (that's all I could manage to say). Then right as he's about to turn away I say, "Would you like to see my Dark Tower Tattoo?" and he replies "It depends where it is..." and so I lift up my skirt enough to reveal it, he bends down to look, touches it and says "That's a nice rose" then turns around to meet some other people. I'm grinning like a sonuvabitch, I *squee* with the woman and her husband and go to get water and sit down. For the rest of the reception I watched him chatting with everyone and consistently being crowded by people. I was all set to have *met* him the one time.

I sat in the second row (reserved seating) for the talk between King and Russo. Both of whom are interesting to listen to. Based on this one viewing though, I'd say Russo is a better talker (?) or interviewee than King. Hopefully the thing was taped. Anyways, they talked about the language of their books, their reaction to their stories when they are made into film, etc. Then the moderator went to some submitted questions. Two of which are hilarious.
1) Would you ever appear on Dancing with the Stars? And who would you want to dance with?
Russo: Only if I got to dance with Stephen.
King: No, I wouldn't.
Russo: Then I'm not going!
2) What is your favorite curse-word?
Basically, neither answered directly but this is what I got.
King: I like idioms like "Shit or go blind." Is it really that much of a choice? Shit or go blind!? I'll shit thank you. I also really like "Son of a Whore."
Russo: I like the word "cunt" but only when a woman says it. :Story about a daughter who is in England, where 'cunt' is more used than in America. She refers to the people she works with as a bunch of cunts.: I am... so proud.

The book signings were very mechanical because King must have had over 500 books to sign. I was #295. There was no time for personal inscriptions or the signing of any book other than Just Before Sunset, the book you received with your ticket.

The whole event was created to raise money for the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts and they raised ~$18,500. Overall, the night was quite an experience!

listening to this song on the radio last night i couldn't help but think of poor, struggling roland as he prepares himself to tell the story of mejis

we both lie silent and still in the dead of the night.although we both lie close together, we feel miles apart in side.
was it something I said Or something I did, did my words not come right. Though I tried not to hurt you, though I tried , but I guess that's why they say...
every rose has its thorn, just like every night has its dawn, just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song, every rose has its thorn.

listen to our favorite song playing on the radio, and the dj say loves a game of easy come and easy go, but I wonder does he know has he ever felt like this, I know that youd be hear right now if I could have let you know somehow,
I guess every rose has its thorn just like every night has its dawn, just like every cowboy, sings a sad, sad song, every rose has its thorn

Though its been awhile now I can still feel so much pain. Like the knife that cuts you, the wound heals, but the scar, the scar will remain.

I know I could have saved a love that night if I'd known what to say, instead of making love we just made our seprate ways, and now I hear ya found somebody new, and that I didn't mean that much to you

And to hear that tears me up inside and to see you cuts me like a knife
I guess thats why they say every rose has its thorn, just like every night has its dawn, just like every cowboy sings a sad, sad song. Every rose has its thorn

I'm officially quite nervous. My stomach turns.
I cannot think of anything to say to him that is effectively better than .
Help?

In happier news, I got approved to do my independent study next semester on Dark Tower. woo!
