I'm sick in bed today and off work (my parents both have colds, and sure as shit, what they have always ends up with me last), so what better to do than review the show at the Rex?

Well, even though I started getting sick about halfway through the show (if anyone noticed how I went from constant callbacks to absolute silence and leaning on the table, that would be why), I still thought it was great. While the Rex doesn't quite have the comfortable homely atmosphere of the Oaks - particularly since the virgins here seemed almost totally unwilling to participate! - the cast worked through everything wonderfully.

Though I don't recall seeing Sammi before (I must have, because she recognized me), I thought she was a fantastic Trixie and a very believable Magenta. I thought she had a great chemistry with our beloved Chalupa, whose Columbia seems to get better month by month. Nice to see Jordan back as Frank also; as great as Manni-N-Furter has been the last couple months, she does make a great Janet as well.

I do feel bad for Sheffo though - had no idea he banged up his knee on that fall. Hope he recovers in time to scooter around on Friday, 'cause he's the best Eddie of the bunch!

As for the Dregs... uh, I dunno. Me and Tarsis went for a wander. :-)

But as for Rocky, despite the atypical conditions for the cast, I think the show went smoothly, and everything was done well - the Rex does sort of have that grungy small theater quality that Richard originally went for with RHS, so it seems to suit the film great. However, this will be my last trip to the Rex shows, unfortunately; my ride really doesn't like the traffic down there, and being that we witnessed a drunk drive into a pole mere feet away from us, he's probably in the right. After certain events that happened to others at the show as well, I do worry about the safety of the cast down there. Just be careful - that's all I ask of both the cast *and* the audience.

Well, I want to cut this short, but I will mention an idea I had for the JCCP YouTube channel; I thought it would be funny to do in-depth 'exclusive interviews' with the characters.. . if anyone can pull off both the voice and appearance of a Rocky character, let me know! (Before everyone says "I can do Columbia!", I may already have one, but I'll say so if that doesn't work out.)

Okay... back to bed for me.  Virtual hugs would be appreciated. :-P

Hello people, I heard about a showing at the Rex Theater in the Southside this Saturday. Out of curiosity, does anyone know who's running the show, and is the Rex only a 21+ crowd? I don't want to accidentally bring underage friends and have them turned away at the door.

Thanks!

Thought I should mention this, since it's not advertised, like, anywhere (as far as I can tell)...

RHPS will be shown at the Rex Theater on E. Carson Street in the South Side, tonight at Midnight.  Opening act The Dregs will play at 10:30 PM.  Admission is FREE.

That's all the info I have; I dunno if there's a performing cast or anything, or why a movie needs an opening band, but hey...

I have a few things I wanted to bring up in this post...

1) This just popped into my head recently - is there any sort of fan-designated Rocky Day at Kennywood?  If not, that may be worth considering.  Obviously, it would probably have to be an out-of-character affair for the most part (having a RHPS screening in a pavilion may not be appreciated by all train passengers), but it might be interesting if put together well.  I mean hey, they already have Juggalo Day, and we're not as nuts as they are.  (Don't worry, in case someone was going to accuse me of player-hation, I too am down with the clown.)

2) I wanted the thoughts of both the cast and the general public on this...  In terms of attracting more attention to the jccppgh YouTube channel, which seems to be rather overlooked at the moment, perhaps the key is to make it more original and unique by adding material outside of the usual show footage.  Homemade, Rocky-themed comedy videos, for example.  I have a few funny ideas in that area that I wouldn't mind committing to video.  Anything could be up for inclusion really, even if you were a Pittsburgher who just wanted to spiel about why you think Rocky is awesome.  I dunno, I suppose that's up to the cast to decide on; my duties on jccppgh don't extend that far.

3) Just a little note about something that could be a ways into the future; I may be getting my hands on an alternate cut of "Rocky Horror" that sounds to be *very* interesting... but I'll refrain from giving away any more details until I'm more certain.

4) I can't stress this enough - if you're on a forum, newsgroup, whatever about RHPS showings, and the JCCP's shows are not mentioned, please be sure to post something about them.  I already started doing so on a heavily-visited shadowcast group on Facebook, and I'll try to keep up with others as well.  I'd love the cast to perform for a sold-out audience some time soon, especially after these past few tame Winter months, and I'm sure others would also love to see that.

Well, that's all I have...

See you 'round like a record...

Just thought everyone should know... the inhabitants of Transsexual Pennsylvania have begun their perversion of YouTube, with the JCCP channel!

Subscriptions are recommended, as more videos will be popping up there... Jason added a few, and I added a few, with more on the way.  Stay tuned.  And tell everyone!  Show your parents how weird your friends are! :-)

Oh, man. How did it take me this long to find out that Pittsburgh has it's own Rocky showings. So I guess from the other posts, I should post some kind of "Intro"?

HUGE Rocky fan, I've been part of Ithaca College's Halloween show two years running as Brad, and I'm really excited to try and hear all the different callbacks Pittsburgh has compared to Ithaca. I've never actually seen a show, without being part of the cast.

So I guess really I've topped, but never bottomed?

Also, It's this Friday, no?

And my name is Peter.

Tah-dah.

Hi!
[info]scheiny  told me to do an intro post, so here I am.

How I found the group: Behold the power of Google. You guys were my top hit for "Rocky Horror Pittsburgh". Good on you!

Previous Experience: Back in undergrad, long ago (Grad student now, everything else is "long ago") and far away (Iowa State) I was actively involved in the Rocky Horror scene- volunteer assistant, and some-time shadow cast (Columbia and Magenta for preference). Recently I realized it has been too long, so I turned to Google, and here I am! Unfortunately I don't think I can make it this Friday, but I an-ti-ci-pate seeing you all sometime soon!

Hey folks,
Well that subject says it all - we've got to postpone tonight's show due to the crappy weather we've gotten and will continue to be getting throughout today and tonight.

However, we're going to move the show to next Friday, so if the Steelers win and you're not sick of hearing about it by that point, bring your terrible towels and we'll do something special with them at some point.

See you next week,

Yes, that's right, next week (February 6th), Rocky Horror will be at the Oaks Theater!  Bring your friends!  Bring your mom!  Bring your co-workers and show them that you can party harder than they did at last year's Purim party!  Bring your ultra-conservative uncle and show him the joys of fishnets!

WHERE IS THIS?: The Oaks Theater on Allegheny River Blvd. - Oakmont, PA (just ten minutes away from the Pittsburgh Zoo!)
WHEN IS THIS?: Friday, February 6th at 11:30 PM
I'M A TIGHTWAD.  HOW MUCH IS IT?: Just five dollars for a ticket; prop bags are four dollars, and toilet paper is a dollar.
I LIKE TO DESTROY THEATERS, BUT DISLIKE PUNISHMENT.  WHAT CAN'T I BRING?: Large squirt guns, rice, and hot dogs.  No open flames either.
CAN I SHOW UP IN MY MOM'S UNDERWEAR?: Sure!  Wear your grandma's if you want!  Or your sister's!  Just... uh, don't tell us if you're wearing your daughter's.  We have boundaries...

Don't mean to post something behind the back of the cast or anything, but people seem hard to get a hold of nowadays... so I thought I'd post it here so EVERYONE, including the cast, could read and comment on it.

Thanks to a recent bizarre email situation dealing with a slight case of mistaken identity, I found myself in touch with both a friend of (and eventually the agent of, thanks to the friend of) Jamie Donnelly, the original Roxy Magenta.  (Many of you will also remember her as Jan from "Grease".  Yes, she's still willing to sing the "brusha" song! :-P)  Since I was suddenly in contact with these folks, I took the opportunity to ask if she was involved with the Rocky Horror community - and surely enough, she is more than willing to appear at a RHPS showing; and if I remember correctly, actually just started doing so.

While this is merely something for the cast to consider, I was just wondering... though I did not get a price (because I wanted to speak with the cast first - I don't want anyone to feel betrayed), she is apparently inexpensive to snag as her agent is willing to work within the budget of whoever wants to book her.  Now, assuming that she *was* inexpensive and a particular cast groupie was willing to pitch in a sizeable amount of money, would she be a special guest that you folks would like to see?

Just a thought, that's all...

(Why 'increasingly troubled', you ask? I'll get to that at the end.)

Well, thankfully, the weather last night was a pleasant change from last month - it was actually comfortably warm, as opposed to bitter cold. Usually at this point, I would say, "Oh, the audience last night was SO disappointing", but I can't, because I'm in awe at the crowd that eventually came! While the attendance was terrifying at first (for about fifteen minutes, I actually thought I was the *only* paying customer), most of the crowd came closer to 12:00, and were very enthusiastic - especially compared to the weaker, mostly virgin crowd after Thanksgiving. Glad to see some folks back who I saw being sacrificed in previous months.

You'll also notice that my reviews always talk about how pleased I was at the evening's configuration of the cast. :-) Well, last night was no exception - I got to see Jordan as Riff Raff for the first time, and knowing that he did it before, I think he did a great job after month after month of being Frank. I also had the privilege of watching TWO Rockys, both unfamiliar to me; and this was a major highlight of the show. Like Rage of the Stage's decision to split Riff Raff into two characters, having two pairs of gold shorts running in opposite directions was both utterly bizarre and hilarious. I wouldn't mind seeing either of those folks back. And of course, as seems to be the trend nowadays, I was able to see Manni in *yet another* character (following, I think, Frank, Rocky and Janet in monthly succession); I asked before if she'd ever played Magenta because I thought she looked like she could pull off the part well, and in the end she did. I thought she was able to capture Magenta's dark, sunken-eyed beauty (for lack of a better description) quite well.

I *loved* the high level of audience interaction this month, and would love to see that continued in the future. (Besides the usual bedroom scenes across the lap of a few unsuspecting patrons, Janet did her stumble-stumble-fall across my row, which I thought was an interesting touch; and the creation scene was replaced this month with a very unexpected RickRoll, culminating in a conga line through the audience!  It was such an awesome event, it's sad that it would only work once!)  A handful of audience members were also used for another scene, though I can't remember which one - and I personally think that was a great idea that deserves more exploration. I know that the norm is for the actors to interact with (or on) the audience, but maybe the audience could have the opportunity to interact with the actors more.  Like, say, pulling out a line of folks to do the step-kick "Hot Patootie" dance. Well, just a thought...

I have another suggestion as well - I know that the Tim Curry videos are a mainstay (and I certainly don't want to see them leave), but why not throw in something new for people who continually come back, like Meatloaf's "Paradise By The Dashboard Light", Nell's "Do The Swim" and "Stilettos and Lipstick" videos, or, if you're REALLY daring, "Once In A While"? Again, just a thought...

What did worry me about last night, though, was the lack of a Columbia. Whether the words of a mere groupie matter, I'm not sure, but I'll say it anyway - I urge *everyone* here with transportation to consider auditioning for the cast. Don't be shy - show the world how good you look in garters!

But all in all, I think the show last night went *really* well.  Everyone involved seemed very into it (especially the two Rockys) and the audience definitely sounded like they loved it. If anything, though, I'm definitely inspired to think of ways in which to pull in more people. They're out there, I'm very sure of it. :-)

I would like to end this on a more personal note... I mentioned in the title of the post that I'm an 'Increasingly Troubled' groupie. While I plan to elaborate on this much further in the future (I haven't had the opportunity to write it yet), I'll say briefly that I've come to the time that I'm sure a few other RHPS fans have reached where their family is alarmingly far less than enthusiastic about their continued activity in the Rocky community; unfortunately in my case, this has grown to the point of truly bizarre behavior, such as family members accusing me of taking part in things that never happened. I've had to make a very difficult choice to either leave Rocky and regain the respect of a family that judges me and makes me feel extremely unwelcome; or to stick with Rocky, and pay a monthly visit to the family that I truly feel welcome with; and I've made my decision. I don't need to justify myself or my actions to anyone, be they parents or anyone else. My family is at the Oaks Theater - and so long as I can get there, I will continue to be there.
