Hi all! I'm a newbie! Been in Cambridge since April, and have been desperately searching for pubs/clubs that play rock music since then! Stupidly didn't consider looking at the union page for a rock society....duhhhhh. Anyways, having a Mon-Fri job means I'll prob have to give the Thurs nights a miss (most of the time anyway) so does anyone know places to go on Friday/Saturday nights? And would anyone mind adopting a *relatively* well behaved rock fan into their pub friends?! I'd be muchly grateful! Liz x Current Mood: chipper | | Tuesday, October 14th, 2008 | 3:39 pm [maetria]

Don't Forget Tonight, for one night only, Wake Up Screaming is free!
Tonight is the first Wake Up Screaming of term. And it's free entry all
night. This means you have very little reason not to attend. And nor do
your friends who always say they'll come but never do!
Wake Up Screaming itself begins at 9pm at Kambar, for those of you who
don't know. Line-up is as follows:
21:00-22:30 - Unusual Alternative and Guilty Classics --- DJ CDO
22:30-00:00 - Rock, Metal and Alternative --- Marky T
00:00-01:30 - Commercial Rock & Metal --- Mark Booth
01:30-03:00 - Fun Rock --- DJ Ema
Some people will also be meeting in the Bathhouse (near Kambar, next to the
Eagle) beforehand, so feel free to head along to that if you want. Starting
about 8pm.

On Sunday... Is anyone planning on going to the Last Dance/Screaming Banshee Aircrew gig in London the day after Bump n Grindhouse? Cheap tickets here: http://ant-girl.livejournal.com/348136.htmlIf so, I can give you a lift! I'll be picking everyone up in my van from Cambridge station at 4.30pm, driving down to my habitual parking space in Temple Fortune and taking the tube from Golders Green just down the road to the venue. If you could put a few quid (£3 each will do) towards diesel that'd be handy, and you'll still need to buy a Travelcard, but that's still cheaper than a train ticket, and you won't have to worry about leaving early to catch the last one home. :-) If you could let me know if you'll be coming via this entry that'd be dandy, but I won't turn you away if you just turn up. Well, unless the whole of Cambridge wants a lift. My van's big, but it's not that big... ;-P Current Mood: excited | | Monday, October 13th, 2008 | 5:00 pm [alixandrea]

Damnation minibus With the minibus to be booked very soon I require some information as to when people would like to leave Leeds after Damnation. The official time that the last bands will finish up is TBC. This I find surprising as I thought venue restrictions would have meant an 11.00pm curfew (with the after party scheduled to run tp 2.30am) but perhaps this doesn't necessarily hold for Damnation. So, would those intending on travelling on the minibus prefer to leave after the last band (hardly much after 11pm) or stay for the club after it (ticket holders get in free to this)? | 2:34 pm [olithered]

Promoting!! Hello folks. I've got lots of things going on in my busy little diary that I think I should be telling you about as I'm almost certain you'll enjoy all of it. So here goes! Event Number 1 On Sunday 5th October in Cambridge (UK), my friend Amy is filming a Zombie movie. More info here: http://www.zombiedaytrip.com/and here: http://www.new.facebook.com/event.php?eid=40786146728(This is a free event). For those of you without Farcebook, here's the gist: I want to make a Zombie film. In Cambridge. I want to get AS MANY people as humanly possible involved. I would like ideas and volunteers. We have the basic script done but would love your input. The basic idea is: A Zombie Romantic Comedy, on a Zombie day trip with punting and tourists etc - let your imagination run wild... We can have so much fun with this - I am completely open to improvisation and adlibbing.
If you would like to be involved in this project then please let me know.
INVITE YOUR FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only proviso is that if you want to be in the film you MUST provide your own clothes and makeup. I am a facepainter so happy to give tips and help out where needed, but I wont be doing everyone! The Date is Sunday the 5th october, meeting at midday. That way we can have a relatively empty shopping centre after 4, and less normal people around. I would love to know what you think! I am hoping that we can meet on the green at Parkers Piece first, and all descend together. Then as a reward,
A ZOMBIE PUB CRAWL!!!
We are going to have a competition as well - the people with the most realistic and inventive costumes will have their names on the credits - understandably we cant have everyone, but if you do well you will be rewarded.
This will hopefully then be out for Halloween - I am getting a website we can embed it on.The main meeting time/place is 12pm at point 'B' here (Reality Checkpoint, Parker's Piece, Cambridge), but as there's likely to be somewhere between 300 and 800 of us all told, you should be able to find us lurching around the city all day!! ;-) Event Number 2On Saturday 18th October 2008, between 9pm and 2am, Club Octaine will be presenting Bump 'N Grindhouse - a decadent evening of Burlesque Excess. It will be held at The Harris Suite, Cambridge United, Newmarket Road, Cambridge - here and will feature Miss Golden De Licious, Miss Lili La Scala and Miss Pink and Fluffy (all SFW links) plus stalls from Jezebelles Boutique, Milli Corsetry and Covenant Clothing, photography by Bethany and DJ sets from dj_slingshot, myself and DJ Raggedyman. More info here: http://www.bump-n-grindhouse.co.uk/This promises to be a truly wicked night that you would have to be crazy to miss! Tickets are £8 on the door, £7 concessions (NUS / Rocksoc / Calling membership, cards required) and £6 advance from the website, myself or Taff. We also have a special offer - buy 5 tickets, get 6th ticket FREE OF CHARGE. See you there! :-) Events Number 3 and 4The Texas Chainsaw Orchestra will be playing two very special Halloween gigs on Friday 31st October and Saturday 1st NovemberThe first of these gigs will be held at Club Antichrist (may be NSFW), Club Colosseum, Vauxhall, London. Info is as follows: WE are having a Party. - note the capital 'P'. With proper party games, zombie usherettes handing out candy and condoms, and rune readings. And prizes! Not just a free drink for the 'best costume' like the other clubs, but proper prizes, and stuff to do to win them. And a raffle with £1500 of prizes that you're automatically entered into, just by buying your AC ticket!Other performers include Suicide Commando and Faderhead. Tickets cost £18 in advance and £23 on the door (I think). There are special prices for members, with annual membership costing £12. The second Halloween special event will be held at Torture Garden (may be NSFW) at MASS, St Matthew's Church, Brixton, London. Info: TG's Halloween Ball is one of the biggest and best of the year and a unique experience. Don't miss Torture Garden at its twisted best at the expanded Mass venue, including the new Babalou floor, taking the capacity to 2000 over 5 Rooms on 3 Floors, including new Babalou floor, and new Marquee Chill Out!

This is a charity appeal I am going to be in Cambridge all this week, painting the flat and doing various other bits and pieces on it.
Do any of you have any large old rags - you know, ancient sheets or similar - that may or may not be on the verge of death but you don't mind me using as covers for the floor, furniture, etc and which may be returned with paint stains? I'm looking in the general direction of those of you who have been painting your own houses in the recent past, or are still doing so but have taken a break from it this week.
I'll be completely removed from the internet while I'm down there so send a text to [number now deleted before some undesirable picks it up - 05/10/2008] if you're willing to help out. | | Friday, September 26th, 2008 | 5:59 pm [maetria]

beer on thursday (21) Ladies and gentlemen, do not adjust your sets! For one week only, your beer on thursday update is brought to you by me, as it's my birthday next weekend and I'm hijacking thursday beer. Normal service will be resumed (well, Oli will be back anyway) next week. This week's pub is the Salisbury Arms, on Tenison Road ( map). Mini review of last week: The Penny Ferry is full of more random stuff than the KSR even, and had IPA of a much better state than at the Hat and Feathers (not hard, admittedly). Half of the place is a pretty good curry restaurant. Raw chillis are VERY HOT. Outside opens onto the river which must be really nice in summer. The Green Dragon had lots of good beer as usual, and are doing a sweepstake: if you can guess the day they light their first fire of the year you can win some money! Woo! | | Thursday, September 18th, 2008 | 11:02 am [olithered]

beer on thursday (20) Tonight is beer night. Once more with extra beer! The plan is to go to the Penny Ferry (formerly known as the Pike & Eel, map). And afterwards (say from 9:30ish) to the Green Dragon ( map). Mini review of last week (the Red Bull vs the Hat & Feathers): Awesome beer choice and quality, good food, not too busy vs gone off IPA, deserted, pool table - back to the Red Bull after a fraction of a pint! | | Wednesday, September 17th, 2008 | 9:12 pm [gheldor]

Damnation Festival transport From what I hear there may be a few Cambridge folk, including me, heading up to Damnation Festival in Leeds on Saturday Nov 22nd (if you don't know what exactly this year's Damnation Festival features then see here: www.damnationfestival.co.uk). Rocksoc are currently looking into subsidising travel for those members who are going to this. This will likely mean a minibus round trip to Leeds, leaving Cambridge around noon and returning that same night. However, it would be very useful at this stage to have an approximate number of people who would avail of this. So would you be in? | | Thursday, September 11th, 2008 | 11:02 am [olithered]

beer on thursday (19) Tonight is beer night. With extra beer! Come along to the Red Bull on Barton Road ( map), from 8:00pm. There may well be food. Later on (from 9:30pm) we plan to head along the road to the Hat & Feathers ( map). Mini review of last week (the Six Bells): An excellent little pub tucked away so you'd never find it. PS: The Bun Shop ( 15) is closed :-( | | Friday, September 5th, 2008 | 12:12 am [raggedy_man]

Back, and twice as sexy! | | Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008 | 5:47 pm [olithered]

beer on thursday (18) Tomorrow is beer day. Come and join us at the Six Bells ( map) - second road on the right down mill road. Mini review of last week (the Corner House): Beer cheap (at least compared to the Zebra) at £2.50 per pint. Lovely warm evening outside. Thirteen people (thanks Mark)! Nice pink walls :-) |
