The Prodigy are an electronic music group formed by Liam Howlett in 1990, in Braintree, Essex, England. Along with The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim, The Crystal Method, and a few other lesser-known acts, they were pioneers of the big beat electronic dance genre. They have sold over 16 million records worldwide which is unequaled in electronic music history. Their music consists of various styles ranging from rave, hardcore and industrial in the early 1990s to alternative rock and big beat with punk vocal elements in later times.

The Prodigy's fifth studio album is expected by the end of 2008. The album has been delayed several times, and there is no confirmed official release date. The name of the album and the track listing have also not been released yet. It's unconfirmed whether the album will contain all-new, never-before-performed songs, or if it will contain some of the songs which the band has already played in concert. The album will be released under the band's new label, "Take Me to the Hospital".

ROUND #004 CHALLENGE #09: Vidoll

Vidoll is a Japanese rock band signed to the independent label Under Code Productions.

The name Vidoll is a play on words. Written phonetically, the name can take on multiple meanings, examples of which can be seen in a monthly editorial by members of the band in Shoxx mangazine called ヴィドールの[美]微doll (Vidoll no Bidoll). V and B are pronounced in the same way in Japanese. The 美 symbol (beauty) is crossed out, with the 微 symbol (delicate, minute, insignificant) replacing it. 人形 (ningyou) means doll or puppet. Just by changing the characters used to write the name, it can mean "Beautiful Doll" (美人形) or "Insignificant Puppet" (微人形). Both themes (and play on words in general) are reflected in lyrics, releases, and tour names.

They formed in 2002, and have since released many albums, singles, and DVDs.

There are no songs included this week; I simply have not had the time to upload any. Sorry!

Due to unforseen circumstances such as surprise open houses and my cousin's continued ill health, as well as forseen but unexpectedly continuing ones such as mihakken's continued lack of Internet access, voting will be extended until TOMORROW NIGHT because it's absolutely certain I will be completely unable to put up results this evening.

ROUND #004 CHALLENGE #08: Sugizo

Born a music virtuoso on Tuesday, July 8, 1969 in Kanagawa, Japan, Sugizo was raised in a family whose very lifeblood was music. With both parents as members of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Sugizo had been trained to play violin from the tender age of three -- quickly mastering an instrument which he would later on carry into his successful career.

Taking up the guitar in his early adolescence, Sugizo quickly mastered the instrument and set out to form a rock band with his high school friend, Shinya. This first project, which was named Pinnochio, began to grow with success -- gaining a rival known as Lunacy. In 1989, after Pinnochio fell apart, Lunacy founders J (bass) and Inoran (guitar) recognized Sugizo's incredible skill and recruited him for the band. The band's name changed to LUNA SEA and they began the road to fame.

As the lead guitarist, violinist, backup vocalist, and key songwriter of LUNA SEA, Sugizo broke boundaries and cultural conventions unheard of in Asia with his charismatic personality, avant garde image, and brilliant skill. LUNA SEA and X-Japan were bands that led the visual kei (visual shock) revolution of the early 1990's in Japan -- a revolution that glorified androgyny and beauty. With a huge appreciation for the aesthetic senses, Sugizo instantly became a fan favorite, right alongside the hugely popular guitarist, hide.

When LUNA SEA disbanded in 2000, Sugizo began his solo career, making his own releases as well as guesting as a musician for other bands.

Tool is an American, Grammy Award winning progressive rock band that was formed in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. The band have sold over 13 million records worldwide, and consists of drummer Danny Carey, bassist Justin Chancellor, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan. Tool has won three Grammy Awards, hosted worldwide tours, and produced albums which have performed well on international music charts due to their cult status in the world of music.

The band emerged with a heavy metal sound on their first LP at a time when the genre was dominated by thrash metal, and later reached the top of the alternative metal movement with the release of their second LP, Ænima, in 1996. Their efforts to unify musical experimentation, visual arts, and a message of personal evolution continued with Lateralus [2001] and their most recent album, 10,000 Days [2006], gaining the band critical acclaim and success around the world. Due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and relatively long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transgressing act and part of Progressive metal and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship and the band members' insistence on privacy.
