Is it possible to get a good haircut for <$20? Most places (I've been to) don't seem to do well with thinning and no cut. My hair is the length I want, but there's way too much of it. I've used the Scott Miller modeling program a few times, but it really doesn't fit with my schedule and they're probably sick of me by now (:

Hey, I thought I'd get this rolling.
Since penny pinching is such a necessary evil and yet, we still deserve to be entertained, a discussion of free things to do around the area (aside from the standard well known festivals, hiking, beaching, etc) might be in order.

Flat Iron Grill  dance lessons on Tues (Bachata sp?) and Thurs (salsa) starting from 9-10pm
Hula Hooping on Weds in Genesee Valley Park
Rochester Juggling Club Sundays 2pm Village Gate upper area

Hi, I'm the fat guy you saw get on stage to do the Metrics song with MC Lars at the Lilac Festival. Remember? Wasn't that neat? I thought so. Anyway, I do a comedy synth-punk thing called Worm Quartet, and I'm doing stuff this Wednesday at the Bug Jar along with Devo Spice and Dufus!  Come on out, dammit!  Obnoxious flier follows.

Hey ladies!

The idea is a Pillow Fight Federation, shaped after the Toronto Pillow Fight League but more fun and campy and after awhile of working on it, we have the perfect venue to present it.
The concept is literally like a boxing match, except that pillows are used and no fisticuff contact may be used.
Every woman, and this is for ladies only, has a "character" which she portrays (like in WWE wrestling) and fights in a round.
There are 3- 3 minute rounds in a match.
The winner is determined by a knock-down, a surrender or referee judgement on most contact made.
Winners go on to compete and a title champion and such, much like any other.
Obviously there are more rules regarding safety and such, but that's the gist for you.
And...it's a good way to get out aggression in a "safe" playful way.

Yes, it can be dangerous. Mostly cuts and bruises, occasionally a black eye. Rules are being put in place to help cut out more than that.

Sooooo...anyone in? ;)

And if you know anyone who might be interested, please send them my way. The more girls we have the easier it will be to schedule, or to set up things like Duo Team's or round robin events. ;)

I'm not expecting many serious responses to this, but maybe you'll surprise me.

I have bipolar and my p-doc suggested Strong's Ventures Program. Besides gagging at the stupid name, does anyone have any experience with them? I talked with the program director today and have a tour/info thing scheduled next Wednesday, but I'm looking for personal experiences. If it's too personal for you to comment here but you wouldn't mind sharing directly with me, emails to petulant at livejournal dot com will find me! I'd really appreciate it.

Can anyone recommend a good (and ideally not overly expensive) moving company? My husband and I are looking at an August move, and would really like to hire someone to do the actual moving of boxes and furniture for us.

Shelly [userpic]

I wouldn't be surprised if I get some interesting responses here, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

My husband and I are looking for a church. Any suggestions?
A little more about us and what we'd be looking for, if you'd like to offer a serious answer )

I'm an artist (sculptor and painter) moving to Rochester this July from Portland, Oregon. Does anyone know where I might find affordable studio space? Does ArtisanWorks have available studios or does it just show work?

Stephanie [userpic]

I'm trying to sell my car stereo. It's a Kenwood, satellite ready, was about 400 new, I'm asking $75. It was only used for a short period of time and has been stored away ever since. If you know anyone who might be interested then please email me at dreamsupsidedown@yahoo.com

thanks,

I have an apartment that I need to sublease from July - November 2009.   It's a great location and a great apartment:

-900 sq. feet, with a balcony and a gas fire place.
-all appliances included, and has it's own washer and dryer
-walking distance to lots of Chili Ave stuff: Gym, Wegman's, KMART, Blockbuster, hair salons, bars, coffee shops, pizza places, etc.
-5 minutes from Black Creek Park and Genesee River Park
-Bus route in front that goes to Gates
-2nd floor so private
-Corner location, with LOTS of windows and natural light.
-Rent is $790 and includes hot water, basic cable, and high speed internet
-Utilities usually under $75/mo!

It's a great, open, space, and we've loved living there the past two years - but we are moving before the lease is up.

If you are interested contact me at lrichar3@gmail.com or 814-440-9324 and I can sent you photos or arrange a time for you to tour.

Thanks!
-Leslie

Some friends of mine are unable to keep their pet rat Rat, and I am unable to take him in. He's kind of shy but not mean (more a matter of having time to socialize him I think). Would any of you like him? He's currently in Buffalo but I'll be heading that way this weekend and am happy to deliver.

I'll have to check but I believe the cage comes with him.

Okay, in this whole "New York State now refunding bottled water" thing, are Propel bottles being refunded as well?

I didn't keep the receipt, so I have no idea if I was charged 5ยข per bottle or not, but I thought all water (even flavoured) was being refunded. I know that the WalMart brand of flavoured (carbonated/sparkling, not sure which) water bottles are being refunded, but when I tried to return Propel bottles, I was told they couldn't refund the bottles unless they said "NY" on them.

Can anyone recommend a good chiropractor in the Rochester/Fairport area?

Does anyone know if Dr. Cherkis at Unity OB/GYN or his associates does VBACs? I called but the secretary had no idea what I was talking about (which is good right? O_o)

I was wondering if anyone knew of any beauty supply stores that sell shea butter, jojoba oil and Dominican hair products? I've never been to a Sally's, but I always figured they sold salon brands like the beauty supply I used to work at in the city. Our apartment is on East Main by Goodman, a few blocks north of Park if you can narrow the list by location.

Also, just to let you all know. I'll be moving on May 1, and I'm pretty excited to join the actual community, instead of just the online one.

I have been looking for papaya herbal soap (either Likas brand or something similar) but I can't seem to find it. Lori's Natural Foods told me they don't carry it and I can't find it in the organic section of any local grocers. I hear that Asian or Filipino markets sell it. Any ideas?

For anyone looking for a photographer, whether it be for a wedding, engagement, family portrait, whatever it is you're looking for, I STRONGLY recommend giving Jessica McCormick a call/email.

http://www.jessicamccormick.com/

She took some boudoir photos for my fiance (for me) and in the processes, my fiance liked her so much that we went back to her to have our engagement photos retaken, as we didn't like the previous photographer's work.

She's totally professional, and a LOT of fun to work with, AND she does GREAT work.

I'm looking for a cardiovascular, pilates, or core conditioning class that doesn't involve a gym membership. I'm looking for a class for cross training purposes, as I already shell out a lot of $$$$ for another activity.

I have looked into community education classes, but unfortunately, most are right at the end of the Spring session and summer classes do not begin for a couple of weeks.

I'm willing to travel anywhere in the greater Rochester area.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

So our dishwasher first wasn't draining out completely, but still cleaning the dishes, so of course we kept using it..ha. Now it leaked onto the kitchen floor tonight, so gotta get someone in to look at it. Any recommendations? Obviously the cheaper the better.
