 TOP STORY: Android Advancements Continue
According to Dictionary.com, Robot = "A mechanical device that sometimes resembles a human and is capable of performing a variety of often complex human tasks on command or by being programmed in advance," and Android: "An automaton that is created from biological materials and resembles a human. Also called humanoid." I'm gonna dispute the 'biological materials' part of the android def, but otherwise, I think the point is that like the relationship between squares and rectangles, all androids are robots, but not all robots are andriods. Personally, I prefer only slightly humanoid robots. Cute ones, tough ones, even boring ones, but these rubber-faced bots with mechanical facial features just creep me out.

Top Story: Beck Video Features QRIO Robots
Beck's new video is now available on his website. It requires registration to view, but it's pretty simple. Anyway, the video either has Sony's QRIO robots in the place of backup dancers, or Beck in the place of a QRIO spokesperson. I can't tell. It's neat that the video is utilizing actual robot capabilities, but it doesn't make for very engaging entertainment, as the entire thing looks like a Sony product presentation (which we're all familiar with around here). Anyway, check it out. [Link]

Thanks for all the kind comments on the last post. Robots_Will_Win will stay pretty much the same, but with a bit more talking from me. However, I've decided to start a new community for posting images of robots and YOU'RE ALL INVITED!
The new community is called RoboFamilyAlbum, a name suggested by my pal heroprotagonist. In general, I'm thinking that Robo Family Album's fun/art images can be the balance to this site's "news only" images. Check it out!

| BRAIN CELLS IN A ROBOT? |
[10 Nov 2005|04:25am] |
It's like every scary sci-fi idea comes true, you guys. I can't tell if they're using the term 'brain cells' loosely here, or if they mean biological cells, like it sounds. Of course, we remember the rat brain cells taught to fly Microsoft Flight Simulator a while back. Anyway, here's the robot with (supposedly) 20,000 brain cells:

Robot has 20,000 Brain Cells Robot Plays Harp (Well that's considerably less terrifying, eh?) Robot Rings the NASDAQ Opening Bell Vintage Robot Auction More on Our Favorite Robot, Manoi! Amoeba-like Robot Spotted in Virginia Researchers Improving Robot Muscles
I'm thinking about actually opening this thing up and letting it be a real community. I suppose quality-control would drop a bit, but perhaps updates would be more frequent and you guys could be more involved. Thoughts?
