| Whoa, I forgot LJ existed! |
[Nov. 16th, 2009|08:29 pm] |
Apart from the 1 Torchwood comm and 2 Torchwood authors who I follow by email on LJ, I had completely forgotten about LJ, and everything. So I wondered if anyone else has Twitter, cos I keep up with that constantly, and I just had a mega flail and went "OMG I miss peeps!" My Twit name is Galadriel1010. Word of warning, if you follow me, you will lose the Game. A lot. Because I am mean and have a very short attention span. And lots of friends who play the Game |

It's been forever since I posted anything. I re-read Metanoia because it's Sunday and therefore there is nothing to do but drink booze and smoke and do nothing. Because I wanted to paint something too I decided to do the asperger thing smash them togther. I choosed Zan because he is my favorite and mostly because he had a easy body to paint. I used watercolors and stole a pose from PoseManiacs.
You could see the sky for miles...and miles. There was no limit. The air was humid and thick like indoor pool, you know the kind at the rec-center that is always foggy and warm? I could see it coming crossed the parched grasses. A storm, something living and breathing, the rollclouds stained the Dakota sky violet and gray. I can smell the rain....

| Seebs is okay. Actually... Seebs is excellent. |
[Oct. 22nd, 2009|01:38 pm] |
Brought Seebs back from the hospital yesterday morning, and since then we've been catching up on sleep, food, and snuggles. Thanks so much for all your good wishes, guys. Y'all helped me keep my spirits up. Thanks especially to Luka for putting the trash out for us, I had completely forgotten about it. You're awesome.
After much testing and monitoring, the doctors (one of whom looked unnervingly like Agent Scully, but with a lot more smiling) concluded that this episode of fibrillation was triggered by Seebs's ADD medication, and his heart appears to be otherwise normal. So he'll have to work out whether to reduce his dosage or try different meds, but this isn't likely to happen again. He has to take it easy for a couple weeks (Doctor Not-Scully assured us that "sex is fine, just don't start pulling stumps in the back yard!" :D) and has to take aspirin to prevent clots, but it seems no long-term treatment is required. All in all, best possible outcome -- aside from the whole thing not happening in the first place, of course.
The whole thing was surprisingly draining; I'd have thought spending all of yesterday sleeping, snuggled up on the couch playing video games, and then sleeping again would've had me bouncing off the walls with energy by now, but it's all I can do not to go back to bed, and Seebs is still asleep (and he's ALWAYS up before me). Guess I'm getting too old to go short on sleep for a few days and not pay for it later. So I reckon I'll be out of communication for a while longer. Thanks again for being utter darlings. |

Hey guys, it's me again! I finished a little something something tonight. What with the bad news of Seebs being in the hospital, I figured Jesse could use some cheering up. So here's some fanart for you, lovelies.

| Why I'm not around |
[Oct. 20th, 2009|10:26 am] |
Today's vocabulary term: Atrial fibrillation. Seebs is in the hospital. Basically, his heart has hiccups. He's not in danger, but he's hooked up to all kinds of machines and there's an IV full of slow-down-your-heart medicine and they keep poking holes in him. He hasn't lost his sense of humor, though.
Nurse: It's like an ultrasound of your heart. Seebs: Great, we can find out if it's a boy or a girl!
I kept him company all night, and now I'm going to grab a few hours' sleep and then go back. We have no idea how long they'll keep him. So if anyone needs me... er, too bad? Yeah, that's about it. ;p
Luka, I don't have an easy way to reach you, so if you read this -- you are of course welcome to come get more of your stuff, but I'll either be asleep or at the hospital, so I can't help with the driveys. We can make another time to bring your big chair etc. up there. |

| Calling All Pumpkin Pokers! |
[Oct. 16th, 2009|02:23 pm] |
...that's what she said?
So, I'm making a website to fulfill one of the project requirements for my professional writing classes. Subject? The best day of the year, of course: HALLOWEEN! If anyone would be so kind as to send me their Halloween photos* to use on the site, I would be eternally grateful. The photos can be of you in costume, carved pumpkins, spooky looking food, pets in costume, indoor/outdoor decor, etc. Oh! I will also be accepting recipes, ghost stories (local or otherwise), game ideas and anything else relevant to Halloween. Due credit will be given*. :D
If you're interested, please to be replying here and I will PM you with my email. Thanks so much in advance guys!
*If your photo has people other than you in it, I beg ask that you poke them for their permission for me. Just to keep things legal and whatnot.
*First name, or initials only. Trust me, it's a good/safe idea.
Also, just a note: the site will have limited access, or so I've been told by my prof. I am fairly certain that means that only people in the class will be able to view it, as opposed to people who know the URL. At some point, probably at the end of the semester, I think I will be able to make it public. Either way, I'll get back to you on that because I'm sure you guys would like to see the end product. :D |

| Trying to contact Jessi Hajicek |
[Oct. 12th, 2009|10:09 pm] |

I'm Sky. I read Jessi's book the Gods Eater and want to talk to him about it. It was an excellent book, but I want to talk to him about his theories of magic and patterns that he presents in it. I don't know how else to contact him, his email doesn't work, so Jessi, if you're here I'd really like to talk to you about some things and I think you'd find the conversation very interesting. I'd also like to learn more about what inspired you for the book. If anyone on this sight knows a better way to contact Jessi, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks. |

| Curious~ |
[Oct. 8th, 2009|03:14 pm] |

| | curious | ] | So I got bored today and went swimming through the stacks of our library. I ended up finding the row on Native American culture, so I thought 'why not!' and grabbed two Lakota books. Both of them look fascinating - one was published in 1946 and is an exploration of Lakota children living on the reservation, their values, lifestyles, personalities, etc. Fun stuff. The other is a book on the sacred Lakota language used by medicine men to communicate with each other and with spirits - its subtitle was The Nature of Supernatural Discourse in Lakota, so how could I not pick that one up?
Regardless, I was wondering about Zan and his Lakota-ness. I dunno if any of this is supah secret plot-twist information (or if it's already been covered and I missed it >_>), but how full-blooded is he? And how traditional was his family on the reservation?
Just wondering. =) |

| Totally off topic: rec me some TV! |
[Oct. 1st, 2009|03:56 pm] |
A few months ago I finally got a Netflix account, because they got their instant-watch working for Mac. I like to watch TV while I knit, and I've been doing a hell of a lot of knitting. I've been plowing through back episodes of all my favorite shows at a tremendous clip, and I'm gonna run out pretty soon here. So I thought I'd see if any of y'all have similar tastes and can rec me something.
What I most like to watch while knitting/spinning/etc. are -- I'm not sure what to call them. Reality-plus-science shows? The kind where the camera crew follows people doing interesting stuff for real, and you also get explanations of what's going on and how it works. Mythbusters, Man Vs. Wild, Deadliest Catch, and Extreme Engineering are the ones I've been watching the most. Are those all Discovery Channel? I think they might be. Anyway, that kinda thing.
I also like straight-up documentaries, mostly applied science and archaeology, but I'm a little pickier about those. The usual History Channel fare is too shallow to interest me much; they just take 50 minutes to tell you what a quick scan of the Wikipedia entry would tell you in 5. But if they're accurate and well-made I still like them.
So can anybody suggest more shows along those lines? I've got two enormous afghans on the needles right now, and my brain is hungry!
...
And on a tangentially related topic -- Okay, so when I'm spinning, if I space out while I'm on the near end of the bobbin, the yarn can jump off and wrap around the oily shaft of the flyer, which leaves a black streak on the fiber. I was spinning the yarn for one of my big projects while watching Man Vs. Wild, and this was happening a lot. Now I'm knitting it up, and whenever I hit one of those stains, I laugh. Because each of those black spots marks a moment when Bear Grylls either ate something horrible or took his clothes off. Wow does he like to take his clothes off. Not that I'm complaining. :D |
