Splendor of the Sun [Open Thread]
WHO: Yu Kanda and those coming with.
WHAT: Kanda ventures into the outskirts of the city with the determination of finding his way back home.
WHERE: In the city, about to leave it to explore lands beyond.
WHEN: Just past noon.

Without a word, as always, for he never believed he had to explain himself to anybody, Kanda went into the city only to find the gate that would lead him out. If he couldn't leave by sea, fine with him. Land was just as good, if not preferable, for traveling. As he passed by the various vendors and traders, all setting back on their heels whenever they glanced his way and he responded with his usual glare, Kanda wondered if he should stop for some supplies.

No, that would be like giving into her. And there was absolutely nothing of hers that he could ever need. He had a sword by his side and his grim determination to defeat everything that crossed his path. He had no need for anything else, as far as he was concerned.

Monsters? He almost laughed out loud. Let her deal with akuma face-to-face, and then she can come back and talk to him about "monsters".

"Well," Schuldig said, leaning against the side of a house. He liked leaning, and this was an awesome dramatic entrance. "Aren't you just one step short of talking to yourself. I was wondering when other people'd show up."

Kanda paused and glared at the redhaired man resting against a nearby wall. His eyes narrowed; he didn't recall ever speaking to this particular stranger over those strange journals. Even more so, he didn't recall ever inviting said stranger into a conversation with him.

"I take it you're not a local," was all Kanda said, for there were times when curiosity got the better of him. Not that he would ever admit it.

"If I was, I'd know where the cigarettes are," he said. "But I'm not smoking, am I? Anyway," he added, taking one hand out of his left pocket to pick at the skin around his thumbnail, "the locals are pretty stupid, have you noticed?"

Kanda quirked a brow. He hadn't exactly been paying attention to anyone since he came here. "How so?" Now he was really curious, but dealing with strange circumstances was part of his job description back home, after all.

It was difficult, not being able to just know what this guy was thinking. He was a stranger, and Schuldig had never met a stranger before. It was an incredible, terrible feeling. His first stranger. He could hear dim, muted, distant things, like the lapping of the waves--but nothing more than that, a language he couldn't even hear, much less understand. "I had a conversation with one of them. He kept trying to tell me how great it was here. Didn't answer my questions, kept smiling. He got on my nerves."

"Huh, well, that's not frickin' creepy," Kanda muttered, more to himself than talking to this person, whoever he was. He was half-tempted to talk to a few people and see this odd phenomenon for himself, but at the same time all he wanted was to get the hell out of this utopia prison he was stuck in.

"What sorts of questions you were asking?" he couldn't help asking. Know your enemy, Kanda's number one rule in surviving. Kanda didn't take well to be threatened; that didn't mean he didn't take threats seriously. And if there was something behind what that "queen" was saying about the city, he was going to know in advance what kind of denizens he would be forced to deal with.
