Love Sucks [Closed/Complete]
WHO: Hiruma Youichi, Antubis
WHAT: Hiruma gives Ants another bath, AKA Hiruma is heartbroken and Antubis wants to talk to him.
WHERE: The pond in the park
WHEN: Tonight

Hiruma's face was carefully neutral, even though his insides felt like they were being ripped apart and tossed around like some sort of horrible, gory confetti. He'd brought his stuff to the site of the football field, tent and all. Now he was apparently going to give Antubis another bath?

Whatever, maybe it would take his mind off of things. He shoved his hands in his pockets and sat by the pond, waiting for the anteater death god. His ally, his friend.

As he waited, he stared at the reflection of the moon in the calm water disturbed only by the occasional frog. The full moon was at the end of this week. For some reason, that seemed important. Distantly important.

Very distant.

It was late and Hiruma had finally picked up his discarded journal and found something he probably had not expected. Anubis had noticed the issue arising when he had returned from the forest. He had intended to speak to Hiruma about it, to tell Claire how foolish she was being, but T-bag happened. Michael had been in danger and that had to take priority.

He had noticed Hiruma already sitting by the pond when he had arrived. The moon was the only source of light as it reflected off the water, eerily suiting for the talk that would soon come up. Moving to sit next to the other, Antubis stared silently at the water for a few minutes. He didn't really expect to bathe tonight. It wasn't the time for that sort of thing. "Calmed down any?"

Hiruma didn't think so, which is why his hands were mysteriously devoid of brushes, soap, or anything useful for baths. He sat with his knees drawn up to his chest and arms wrapped tightly around them, resting his head on his legs in such a way that only his eyes were visible over them. Eyes that lacked their usual fire, probably from the million different ways he was feeling like shit right now. Physically, emotionally, mentally drained.

Hiruma didn't really respond to the anteater's question, but he did shift a little to let the other know he had heard the question.

Another long pause.

"What did I do."

Oh man, it was bad. Worse than the anteater had originally thought. He had seen quite a few sides of Hiruma since he had arrived here, but this was completely different from what he had seen before. He was devoid of emotion it seemed, just staring out at the water but not really seeing anything.

Antubis realized this was probably not the best idea he'd had. He was the god of death, not an expert on love problems. Hiruma had been an ally to him though, and one thing Anubis did not do was ignore his friends.

"You didn't do anything wrong. I don't think there is anything to worry about. Claire..." He paused for a moment, trying to carefully choose his words so as not to make things worse. "She didn't abandon you or anything. She is too kind for her own good."

Hiruma was good at suppressing swirls of emotion and passing them off as nothing.

But most people could see through that pretty easily.

"She's a fucking whore. Did she not think that...." So many ways to end that sentence. That I would find out, that I would definitely care, that I would feel like shit.

"I'd feel sorry for that poor kid if I didn't want to jam a grenade up his ass," Hiruma uncurled and picked up a flat stone from beside him, running his fingers over it for a moment before throwing it across the water with a small grunt. The stone skipped almost all the way across the pond before sinking.

"I'm not some fucking... thing she can just play with when she feels like it and then move on to other toys."

A low rumble reverberated from his throat as the anteater lay down, a single claw poking at the water idly, watching the ripples disrupt the otherwise glassy surface.

"You don't really believe that," He said flatly.

He yawned slightly, rows of teeth showing nonthreateningly. "It would probably be better for you to hear it from her, but I figure if you heard it from me first, you'd be a lot less likely to blow something up.

"Read the logs, Pointy. Claire is so concerned with not hurting his feelings that she gave him the wrong idea, I think. And by trying to spare his feelings she's clearly hurt yours."

He sat up again, his bushy tail curling close to his body. "The funny thing about you humans... The times that you aren't concerned with killing each other, you all are so worried about hurting one another. I'll never understand." He shrugged his massive shoulders.

Then his eyes narrowed slightly, not enough to be seen in the dim light. An idea came to mind. It wasn't necessarily a good one, and hopefully he wouldn't need to resort to it.

"I did read them," He gave Antubis a pointed look, "So who's feelings are more important? K's? Or mine?" He curled back up, placing his arms on top of his knees but still only allowing his eyes to peer over.

"She's more interested in him. I've lost my shiny newness. Che."

A small, imperceptible grin.

"And what's worse, she's playing him like a damn violin. He's totally infatuated and clueless and she's leading him on. She's a bitch."

Unfortunately, there would not be much anyone could do to change Hiruma's mind, which was so caught up in emotions that it could not think straight. Abnormal, for him. He couldn't say he liked it, but he couldn't figure out how to stop it.

Antubis sighed just a little. Hiruma was stubborn, he knew that. So trying to get him to feel better by conventional means was not going to work, especially when Antubis didn't know the whole truth either or particularly believed in what he was saying.

A different strategy was in order.

Ants got to his feet then walked out into the water before floating on his back and staring at Hiruma. "Come on," he said nicely enough but coming from him it obviously wasn't a suggestion. It was time to do what Anubis did best.

"Well, you know her better than I do. So who am I to say you're wrong?"

A small splash as he rolls back to his stomach then stands on his hind legs in the water. A large clawed paw scratching his chest, each claw reflecting in the moonlight.

"So I'm going to help you out. I'll kill the bitch and make all your problems go away. You know how the deal works, but consider this one a service."

Hiruma sighed and stripped down to his boxers, leaving his clothing on a nearby rock. His bitten hand twinged; he was too concerned with other things to notice how much it was hurting right now, seemingly throbbing.

He stepped into the water and more or less sat down, splashing the water in his face. It felt good, nice and cool.

Hiruma stood back up and folded his arms, looking away at the suggestion, ".... I don't want that. I don't want her to die," a rather sarcastic snort, "That would just make my problems worse."

A pause.

"You can kill K', though."

Tapping a claw lightly against his chest, Antubis looked up as if thinking for a minute. Then he shook his head disapprovingly.

"I could kill K'... But I won't."

He fell back on all fours, splashing the water around him. "I don't like doing things halfway. I don't like doing the same exchange twice. If she is what you say, then why let the past repeat itself?

"The way I see it, if she dies, she can't hurt you anymore. All your problems would go away. Wouldn't that be a good thing?"

"Ugh, lame. Why not?"

Hiruma growled, "No! It wouldn't help! I still love her, even if she is a heartbreaker. I.... just want her to fix what she's done. But I doubt she will."

He scoffed, "She'll say 'Oh, but I don't know how!! Whine whine.'" His imitation of Claire was done completely in a high pitched voice.

There it was! What Antubis knew was there. What he expected, and needed to hear. Granted, he figured it would take a lot more prodding, but it never ceased to amaze him how well pushing the right button in the right mental state gave him the results he wanted.

Antubis rolled his eyes. "So you still love her? Then why are you being so difficult about it? If she cares about you at all then she'll fix everything.

"I really don't get your kind. Complaining about every little time life gets hard..."

"Yeah, she'll fix it. Or she'll try."

He groaned and sunk back down into the water, choosing to float on his back as Antubis was so fond of doing.

"try and probably fail. She's not very good at that kind of shit, if you haven't noticed."

"The whole ball thing?" He tilted his head a little. He hadn't been around for it, but he'd certainly read about it. Then again he could probably think of other instances if he really wanted to.

Walking over to wear Hiruma was floating. He quickly put both paws on Hiruma's stomach and pushed him underwater. When the blonde resurfaced, Antubis growled slightly.

"Then what is the problem? If she is going to try to fix it, isn't that good enough?"

"She's just a failu--" A gurgle as he was pushed underwater. He resurfaced and growled, running a hand through his hair and glaring at the anteater.

"What the hell! No! TRYING isn't good enough! Trying doesn't count." He stood back up and shook his head violently to get the water out of it, looking very animal like as he did so.

"I don't care how hard she tries, as long as she succeeds.. It's the same thing as a game. Playing the game means next to nothing if you don't win."

He chuckled. "Is that so? I thought all of you people valued effort or something. Y'know. Everyone on a team get a trophy because at least they played, nobody is a loser, and all that other crap people delude themselves with to think that equality exist."

He turned and walked back to the shore, shaking out his fur before looking back at Hiruma. "Glad you're still as against the grain as ever. What will you do though, if she fails?"

"Che. Fuck no. If my team loses at home, they don't get a pat on the back. No 'You tried your best'. It wasn't their best if they didn't win! The only thing losing is good for is for informational purposes, finding out where your team is weak. This is exactly the same thing."

A pause, "Besides, it saves me money on those stupid plastic trophies."

Hiruma also exited the water, drying himself somewhat with a towel he'd brought with him, just in case, "The same thing I do when a team mate fails; yell at her to try again until she gets it right."

He shook his fur out again before falling into the grass and lying on his back, shifting slightly to get more comfortable. He looked up at the stars, probably intending to sleep where he lay tonight.

"So basically, you'll give here as many chances as it takes? Interesting..."

Hiruma threw back on his clothes.

"Yeah, I guess so. I mean, until she fucks up again. Maybe."

He didn't know really.

Antubis placed his paws on his paws on his stomach in a relaxed position.

"I wonder what that feels like."

It wasn't his luxury to know.
