Two bouts have been announced for Final Battle 2009 in NYC:

1. ROH World Title Match

Austin Aries (c) vs. Tyler Black

2. Jack Evans and Rocky Romero vs. Alex Koslov and Teddy Hart

Seems to be if they were going to put the title on Black finally, this would be the show to do it at. I wouldn't mind him as champion though I have thoroughly enjoyed Aries' second run.

Scheduled for tonight's edition of ROH on HDNet:

-Kenny King vs. Brent Albright
-D'Lo Brown vs. Sal Rinauro
-ROH World Tag Team Champions The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) vs. The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson)

Plus: Nigel McGuiness makes his farewell appearance.

Sources: PWInsider.Com, Wrestlereunion

Japanese legend Jushin "Thunder" Liger will be returning to the US when he works both an ROH and PWG show next January as both companies take part in WrestleReunion 4; the shows both take place in LS.

On 1/30 he'll be wrestling ROH World Tag Team Champion Davey Richards in a match that has huge potential to be off the charts.

On 1/31 he'll work the PWG event against El Generico.

ROH Duo Gets WWE Try Out

  • Nov. 22nd, 2009 at 11:34 AM
Former ROH World Tag Team Champions Mark and Jay Briscoe received permission from ROH Management to participate in a work out/try out for WWE this past week at the ECW/Smackdown tapings. Both are currently under contract with ROH.

As with Nigel and Danielson, I think it's a case of what do they have left to accomplish in ROH if they are going to remain a team in ROH? Not saying WWE would be the best home for them if they have interest in going there and if the company had interest in them as well but you have to think for a lot of the talent that has been around for awhile, they might have a desire to test the waters elsewhere. TNA tends to put more emphasis on tag teams than WWE so I think that would be their best bet. Alas that's all speculation since they're still under contract and the story might end with the try out.

Just another tuesday

Sapolsky: Yawn. This Smackdown and ECW taping is so boring and robotic.
Feinstein: Yeah it needs more Christopher Street Connection.
November 19th: As announced earlier today on the ROHWrestling.com main page (http://www.rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=3085), Tyler Black has been granted a shot at the ROH World Championship when Ring of Honor returns to New York City for Final Battle 2009! Black hasn’t taken a direct loss in ROH competition since June, and having won the 2009 edition of “Survival of the Fittest”, he looks to claim the title that many have said he should already have. Tickets for “Final Battle 2009” are going fast and all balcony seating is already sold out. Get your tickets now at www.rohwrestling.com. Don’t be left out!

November 19th: Signed for Chicago Ridge on December 5th is “Pick 6” Competition. Kevin Steen claimed the Number One ranking by shocking Chris Hero in suburban Toronto last weekend. Claudio Castagnoli was defeated by Tyler Black, but didn’t get bumped from the Pick 6 until Chris Hero defeated Roderick Strong and shifted the order down. Castagnoli knows that the only way into title contention is through the Pick 6 and the only way back into the Pick 6 is through Steen! Can Steen hold onto the coveted top spot, or will Claudio get himself ahead of the pack in a hurry? Be there in Chi-town to see how it unfolds!

November 19th: ROH officials are happy to announce that the exciting Shane Hollister will be a part of ROH’s big return to Chicago on December 5th. The Davenport, IA native has impressed fans all over the Midwest, and we look forward to seeing Shane bring his talent to the main show. Stay tuned to the Newswire for word on Hollister’s opponent on 12/5.

November 19th: As it is done in all major sports, ROH and HDNet officials are constantly reviewing the rules for the Pick 6 Contenders Standings to ensure the most even playing field possible. Please voice your concerns on any of our social networking sites (twitter.com/rohonhdnet, myspace.com/ringofhonor, or facebook.com/ringofhonor), or at the ROHWrestling.com Message Forum.

November 19th: Dave Prazak and Mike “Hog” Hogwood completed voiceovers for weeks 37-43 of “Ring of Honor Wrestling on HDNet” yesterday in Denver. Producer David Lagana commented, “This set of shows is our best BY FAR.”

November 19th: Speaking of ROH on HDNet, next week’s episode features a spectacular Main Event World Tag Team Title match between the American Wolves and The Young Bucks! Also on the card: Kenny King takes on Brent Albright, plus D’Lo Brown and the Super Smash Brothers are in action, and ROH on HDNet says goodbye to Nigel McGuinness. So there is tons of news coming out of Evolve Wrestling. The question I pose is should we talk about Evolve wrestling here? Granted the entire PWP writing team is excited about Evolve and the prospects of it. I already wrote my peace on it and really am just going to wait for the first show to see what happens. But overall what do you guys want?
So what is the indy world gushing over? What is this major news that threatens to tear the Northeast territories to pieces?! It’s not zombies unfortunately. It’s the creation of ANOTHER indy promotion. Spearheaded by Gabe Sapolsky, Sal Hamaoui, and prominent indy wrestler Davey Richards. Great. Wonderful. More shit to buy and more news to cover. Excellent…cause the major indy companies on top of great up and coming promotions don’t have enough to distract me from daily life.

11/06 results from Edison, NJ

  • Nov. 7th, 2009 at 7:23 PM
1. Kenny Omega d. Sonjay Dutt - Omega wins with the Electric Chair German Suplex. Omega retains his position in the Pick 6. Omega bled from the nose and didn't sell Dutt's leg work.

2. Mark Briscoe & The Necro Butcher d. Joey Ryan & Erick Stevens - Claudio interfered here, and Jay Briscoe made the save, which has led to their match beginning next. (ROH's Twitter has this match as having no finish, so, it's either a no contest, or a DQ win for Briscoe/Butcher).

3. Claudio Castagnoli d. Jay Briscoe - Claudio wins after dropping Jay from the "no hands spin thing". Claudio moves into the #6 spot in the Pick 6. (ROH's Twitter has "Claudio cheated to win).

Tyler Black vs. Kenny King ends almost immediately when Austin Aries and Rhett Titus interfere. Colt Cabana and Grizzly Redwood make the save and Jim Cornette comes out and orders a 6 man tag now.

4. Colt Cabana, Tyler Black, & Grizzly Redwood d. Austin Aries, Rhett Titus & Kenny King - Colt gets the win forcing Aries to tap to the Billy Goat's Curse. Cabana challenges Aries for a title match in Chicago.

INTERMISSION

Dog says attendance seems low. Also said "Cruise is looking sharp in a grey tie on a black suit"

5. Bobby Dempsey d. Tony Kozina - Dempsey wins with the Death Valley Driver.

6. Roderick Strong d. Delirious - Strong wins with a small package

7. Kevin Steen & El Generico d. Chris Hero & Davey Richards - Steen forces Hero to tap to the Sharpshooter

On a tad sadder note, due to being busy with a move to a new apartment and obviously busy with the PWP site, I don't know how much longer this livejournal community is going to be going around.  I will say that I'd be more than happy to hand the reigns of adminship over to someone who has more time to commit to it.

Obviously Johnny Nitro and myself have other commitments and while ROH is still a passion for me, I just can't dedicate the amount of time I used to.  I am going to start posting more ROH episodes again but, truly the livejournal phase is slowly burning out and the Facebook is coming into itself.  We do have a facebook page

http://www.facebook.com/pages/edit/?id=183804576806#/pages/Ring-of-Honor-Livejournal-Community/183804576806

But really I do believe that being able to post ROH episodes here is still useful to a few people so it might continue here though I am drafting a page for it over at PWP.  But we will see.  Anyone interested in keeping this community going or helping me over at the facebook page is more than welcome to email me at:  spawn_syxx9@hotmail.com

Tyler Black.  Davey Richards.  Chris Hero.  Possibly the top three names that come to mind when the phrase, ” Next World Champ” is sung by the ROH faithful.  As a member of this brotherhood for over seven years, I have to say that this chant has always been special to me.  Now, to some it is merely a recognition by the smarks as to who they would like to see topple the ROH roster.  To others, it’s admitting that someone has convinced you that they are worth your time and energy to back.  That they exude those special qualities that Ring of Honor fans demand from their champion. Who knows who the 12th champion will be. But in the end, only one name stands out to those who have followed him for the past three years.

There is a great article on the ROHwrestling.com main page about Davey Richards and how he has that next coveted World Title shot.  Speaking of how far Richards has come since June of 2006.  How it was, at the time, Aries defending the belt that Richards holds now the ROH World Tag Team title when RIchards made his debut into the company.  They state that no one brings to the table the tools that Richard does.  I would beg to differ in saying that Danielson in his two chances at the title almost within a month of each other brought many tools to the table, but I do agree that he didn’t have the momentum that Richards has.

The first time I saw Davey Richards was on a PWG show.  In April 2005, Richards debuted in PWG one year earlier than he did his ROH tenure and boy did he impress.  In an eight man tag, he dove onto Excalibur with a shooting star press and won the match for himself and his team.  This young kid who was ripped and completely brutal reminded me of Dynamite Kid and Chris Benoit (ooh..one notch against me, but it’s true none the less) with this style that practically dominated the other cruiserweights around him.  At only 195, this guy really impressed me with his no nonsense style of kicks and suplexes, coupled with an impressive array of high flying moves he was a guy I was willing to spend my dollar on to see fight.

Click the banner below to read more and leave comments.  We are building a great fanbase, our facebook is over 700 strong guys.  Check it out.  At least click it to check out the awesome vid I found while researching this article.  Trust me, it's worth it.

Part 3 is Ishimori vs. Liger and Suzuki vs. Nakajima if anyone just wants those matches.

Part 1 has Delirious and Part 2 has Sugiura/Akiyama awesomeness and a really fun KENTA/Marvin match.

Delirious' match is about 18 minutes into this vid if you just want to skip to it
