Greetings, Weirdoes!

First - don't forget - we have shows this upcoming weekend - if you haven't sent in your requests, please do so ASAP so we can have the casting up before Friday (casting@richweirdoes.com).

Second - to the FIVE of you who showed up to help move our stuff back to theater 4: "Thank you!"  I couldn't have done it without you.

Lastly - a request has been made asking for a "State of the Cast" meeting where issues can be raised and discussed.

I am suggesting that instead of rehearsing, we take the first Sunday in December (12/6/09) and turn that into a cast meeting.  Since it's not a show weekend, we can start a little earlier (say 4:00pm) so we can address any issues properly.  This will give everyone a month to get their schedules straight and really think about what we want to accomplish.

Also, I'd like to hold the meeting on neutral ground - does anyone have access to a FREE meeting room with chairs / conference room / community center / convention hall / clubhouse, etc.?

I'd like to set an actual agenda for this meeting to be published 1 week beforehand so that everyone can have the opportunity to be heard.

What do you think?  Good idea?  Bad idea?  Needed?  Not needed?  Good date?  Bad date?  Punch & Pie?

I'd like to hear your input throughout the week and I'll announce the final decision at this weekend's shows.

I won't publish your responses - they'll be for my eyes only, so feel free to be as candid as you wish - even if it's criticizing me (I'm a big boy, I can take it).  If you already have items for the agenda, feel free to share them with me now and I'll start compiling the list.

Hey gang!

Pretty poor volunteering for this weekend - had to scratch and claw to get actors (not to mention techs and lights).

As of right now, still need some slots filled (actors, techs, lights) - PLEASE check Friday and Saturday's schedules and let me know if you can help out!!!

Also - Sunday's parade - I'd like to have 3 groups consisting of:
Group 1: Frank, Riff, Mag, Columbia - all in their Time Warp/Sweet T costumes.
Group 2: Frank, Rocky, Brad, Janet, Columbia - in Floorshow costumes.
Group 3: 6 Tranzies in rainbow colors + as many "Rocky"s in gold shorts as I can get.

So far, signups have been dismal - please let me know if you can come out and help us celebrate.  You don't need to show up until 2:00pm, so you can still sleep in a bit.

Lastly, check Murphy's call to arms for tonight's PULSE RHPS tribute - contact him for details.

Speaking of volunteering, the schedule is VERY empty!

I have a total of 5 people asking for most of the parts on Friday and Saturday - does that mean everyone else is going to be gone this weekend, too?

Yes, I know it's Father's day, but you can consider this your Father's Day present to ME!

Bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty and sweaty in.

Bring tools - hammers, pliers, drills (with drill bits), saws, etc. - we may be building some racks for hanging stuff in the storage container.

If anyone wants to come on Saturday and do a pre-cleaning look-see and shopping trip (for raw materials), I'll be available all day - just call me.

CASTING CALL for ROCKY HORROR SHOW at SURFSIDE PLAYHOUSE, COCOA BEACH.

Every October for the last 7 years, Surfside Playhouse has presented 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' to packed houses of screaming fans. And to commemorate the closing of the theatre's landmark 50th season, Surfside is proud to debut on its stage the musical that started it all: 'The Rocky Horror Show'!

'The Rocky Horror Show' is the full stage rock musical that inspired the cult film, 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'. This is NOT the film and shadow cast experience; this is the live band, full stage musical with great songs and crazy characters.

Surfside will be holding open auditions on Sunday and Monday, March 22 and 23 at 7 pm at the Playhouse. All are welcome to audition. Those planning to attend should dress for a dance audition. Also, there will be selections taught and sung from the show, but those interested may bring a prepared song NOT from a stage musical. If bringing a prepared piece, please also bring a background track on CD that does NOT contain vocals. There will also be cold readings.

The show will run from May 22 - June 7. Directed by Anthony Mowad.
Presented by special arrangement with Samuel French.

Yeah - so I just got a call from the UCF lady to CONFIRM our Wednesday show.

She says they've posted fliers and everything...

9:00pm THIS Wednesday at UCF's Communications Building, room 101.
7:00pm the place opens for us to unload.

This is a benefit for Relay for Live and Save the Ta-Ta's!

Dinner will be served to the cast after the show - remember last year?
YUM!

So, who wants to play with college kids on Wednesday???!!

Just a reminder - Tonight there is a rehearsal for Prop 8 The Musical preshow. It will be at 7pm at Ofir's. WE STILL NEED PEOPLE!!

As you know, each year I’ve been volunteering for the IRS’ VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance).

 

From the IRS description:

The VITA Program offers free tax help to low- to moderate-income (generally, $42,000 and below) people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Certified volunteers sponsored by various organizations receive training to help prepare basic tax returns in communities across the country. VITA sites are generally located at community and neighborhood centers, libraries, schools, shopping malls, and other convenient locations. Most locations also offer free electronic filing.

 

The training is done over the internet and everything is FREE – including filing your own taxes!

 

This year, the group I’ve been volunteering through (CFEFCU) is experiencing a shortage of volunteers.  If anyone is interested, please let me know ASAP since we’ll be starting on 2/7!!  Reply back with your name, e-mail address, and phone number so I can put you in touch with the volunteer coordinator.

 

The VITA location I volunteer for is at 921 N. Mills Ave in Orlando (in the heart of the ViMi district) and is open every Saturday from 10am to 2pm from February to March and the first Saturday in April.  You do not need to volunteer for ALL those Saturdays, but any help will be appreciated.  I will be there every Saturday to help out, by the way.

Hey, Weirdoes! I've got a BIG announcement to make!

The University of West Florida's Gay-Straight Alliance is volunteering with Equality Florida to organize an event called the Rally in Tally. This event is held in Tallahassee, FL, on March 16, 2009. My school, specifically, is in charge of getting together students from across the state of Florida to attend this extremely important event. Since I know most of you are or at one point were students, I volunteered to talk to all of you.

* NO, you do not have to be a student to attend the Rally in Tally! This event is for everyone!
* This is a one-day event in Tallahassee.
* Equality Florida is working to provide free bus transportation for all people who wish to attend this event.

WHAT IS THE RALLY IN TALLY?

Equality Florida is partnering with allies across the state to turn out hundreds of supporters for a Rally in Tally for LGBT Equality on Monday, March 16.

Given the post-election political climate, now is the time for all Floridians who care about LGBT equality to step up and hold our elected officials accountable.

The rally will also mark the start of our annual Equality Florida Lobby Week. Come join us for the Rally in Tally, then stay for all or part of the week and tell legislators that it is time to protect our rights and our families.

This 2009 Legislative Session will be the biggest year yet to advance LGBT equality, as we build support for bills that will:

Repeal Florida's shameful ban on gay and lesbian adoption,
Create domestic partnerships in Florida,
Provide basic housing and employment protections to LGBT Floridians and
End hate violence against all members of our community.

Think of this as a really huge party where you get to be a part of something awesome and really important to Florida's LGBT community.
