| Hi all. Back again. :) This time I'd like to get your opinion regarding my new Janet hat.
Last year for our Dragoncon show, I made a Janet hat, and for a first draft, I'm satisfied...but I like to outdo myself, so I'm remaking it to make it better! It doesn't quite fit my head correctly, the crown shape is a bit mashed in the back, and I overstiffened the brim. I plan to fix all this this time around.
Buuuut, I also feel like maybe the brim of my first hat was a bit on the small side. I'm thinking of extending it either 1" or 1.5". Maybe even 2". This is where I need your opinion.
( Images of hat under here )
The brim is currently about 3" on all sides. I'm thinking about making it 4.5" or so. It looks fine when I'm wearing it normally, but all those curls make the hat look way tiny on my head, plus I figure once the brim is a little less stiff it'll curl (as it does in the movie), making it look even smaller.

| I know this has been brought up a time or two here, but...has anybody heard ANYTHING lately about what's up with Pixy Creations? And does anybody have ANY way to contact her? The site is down, which means that the only email address I can find for her probably doesn't work either.
I ordered a boa from her a YEAR ago, never got it, and with Dragoncon coming up soonish, I'd really like to have my own boa for my performance.
Thanks. :)
Also, just a tip for anybody who needs new floorshow shoes - I saw some patent black pumps with 4-5" heels at Target, on sale for $20. Don't know if that's all Targets or just the ones around me, but the shape of the arch and heel were more SA than most I've seen around, so I thought I'd pass it on. :) I'd totally get a pair but I can't walk in stilettos (definitely should've gone to physical therapy when I broke my foot, lol).
If you look at your Target and don't see any, there might be a few pairs left at mine, and I'd be happy to scout things out and maybe send you a pair. :) | comments: 7 comments or Leave a comment |
| Hey y'all - I'm leaving for Vacation on Wednesday, and had some unexpected emergency costs hit me (my lil' doggie had 3 abscessed teeth pulled = $500 in vet bills). So I'm unloading some Gold Sequin Fabric (taffeta-backed) on eBay that I bought from Hancock's a couple years ago. It was originally $31.95/yd - but my auction is starting at $75 (=$21.43/yd). Magic Makers sells this for $59.95/yd. There are 3-1/2 yards - which you'll need cuz it has those wide selvages.
But it's a SHORT AUCTION - I wanted to do 2-day, but it won't let me. It was either 1 or 3, and I'll be leaving on the 3rd day. Ugh!!

And Barkley the jumbo rat terrier recovered just fine from his surgery, sans a few teeth.

| Found these on eBay - not even close to fitting me, but it's an excellent deal starting at $19.99-

I don't recognize the seller's name - but I have to believe if they were a Rocky person they'd have put "Magenta" in there somewhere.

| It's an older Rocky Wig but very cute-for a girl Rocky. Gray Wig was from a play I did and only worn for that. I thought it would be a really cute female Crim Wig or even a Tranny Wig. Forgive me for the size of this post folks. I do have several other items if anyone is interested. xoxo Jessica

| Folks,
The Rocky Horror Costume List is updated: http://www.rockyhorrorcostumelist.info
I've finally uploaded photos of the Columbia bustier (as posted here by Sarah, with some additional photos by yours truly). Thanks, Larry!
Also posted are photos of Frank's floorshow shoe. It's definitely a Terry de Havilland. Ever wanted proof the rhinestones are not all the same size? Now you have it! Many thanks to the owner for letting me photograph it and to this group for discussing shoes in obsessive detail. Now you can discuss them in obsessive detail after looking at photos of the original.
On the subject of obsessing about shoes, I've added a link to Zappo's glossary of shoe terms to the Links page, which should be helpful when you're wondering what a spectator shoe is, or which part of the shoe is the vamp.
Coming sometime soon - photos of Larry's floorshow boa, again as posted here by Sarah with some additional photos by yours truly.
Have fun!

| | Sorry If this is something covered before but I have no idea if there's a way to search archive posts! Does anyone have a source for a clear description/photo of the fabric used for Patricia's American Gothic pinafore? I can't find a single close-up pic online and just can't get a clear enough shot on the dvd. Help? Anyone?? Many thanks : ) | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| Right now my friend Stephanie has a Columbia and a Frank wig up. Very reasonably priced and the Frank wig has a wigline in it. If I am correct both come with a wig cap too. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/HOUSEofGLAMOR She will be slowly getting together wigs for the other characters and if you want something non Rocky related she can do that too. Don't be afraid to contact her and ask.
I need to reverify what she said but I think she will be doing a special soon for Rocky performers only. Will post specifics once I make sure its correct. | comments: Leave a comment |
| I had to go to JoAnn's today to get a few things for my Janet costume. I had planned on taking my former cast leader's, and tracing out the seams to make a pattern, and couldn't find my tracing wheel. So, off to JoAnn's. While there, I thought I'd look through the patterns to see what I could find. And, by the way, McCall's patterns at JoAnn's are $1.99 today (06/04) through Saturday (06/06).
I think I found a very good base for Janet's wedding scene dress. They will need some modifications, but it doesn't seem like too many (aside from the fact Janet's is double breasted, and these are longer).
( images behind cut )
What do you guys think? They were only $2.99 a piece, so I got both. This is probably going to be a lot easier than trying to trace a garment that's already sewn together. | comments: 13 comments or Leave a comment |
| Our wig person is seriously about to shoot herself over the Riff space wig. Nothing she tries holds up for more than a couple of shows...then the banana wilts and it just looks silly.
How do your casts deal with this awful wig? | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |
| Sorry if this sounds stupid...but at the Celluloid Jam, someone asked if the Anal Retentive Rocky Horror Costume List was still up; said she hadn't been able to see it for a couple of weeks.
A couple of months ago our host moved DNS entries around and aliased the servers. Some ISPs, like AT&T, apparently couldn't see the updated DNS entries - including whoever the provider was at the con hotel. I have Comcast at home and I can see the site just fine (in fact, I did some minor updates last week).
I tweaked the DNS entries and everything was supposed to be fixed within 3 days.
Since I could always see the site, I have no idea if the problem is fixed, and I'd like to know if people are still having trouble getting there.
So if you have a minute, I'd appreciate people checking the site. Sorry to bother you.
Thanks, Ruth http://www.rockyhorrorcostumelist.info | comments: 19 comments or Leave a comment |
