Vintage Laundry Room Help! Jun. 29th, 2009 @ 11:30 am
[info]betty_homemaker
It seems 90% of all vintage/retro decor sites focus on the easy to decorate rooms and never the few rooms no one really sees.  I asked before about bathrooms and got a few ideas(still need to post those photos of ours) when we did our remodel.  Now I am curious about the laundry room!

I have a few vintage books that discuss the basic layout for a in home laundry room and a boat load of vintage knick-knacks.  I'm more curious as to what your laundry room looks like!  We have a modern washer and dryer so buying a vintage machine is not an option!  But the house we are renting has a vintage cast iron utility sink installed.  We aren't remodeling this room just repainting and decorating it as you have to go through this room to enter the back yard...

Help?!

Hi Were New on This Community Jun. 10th, 2009 @ 09:15 am

This is fun! We just bought a new house built in 1947 with an addition added in the 60's or 70's. We have been granted a loan that will let us upgrade and remodel and are looking forward to this new project. We both love collecting and are antique dealers by trade, so this is going to be one cool house when we get done. Here are a few shots as it now sits. Any ideas are always welcome and I just joined vintagecolor and will be posting some of the things that will decorate our new home.

...in my living room!I like Elvis,I love vintage kitsch, combine the 2 via velvet painting and I am a happy girl. And he's huge!38 inches tall and 28 and 1/2 inches wide.I've never seen one this size,he takes up a good chunk of space on a very blank wall I had so it worked out perfect.

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew where I can buy 12 x 12 peel and stick tiles that are solid black and solid white. I am in the process of redoing the condo i just bought and am putting down a checkered floor in the kitchen. I thought it was going to be easy to find the peel n stick, but i can't find it anywhere!
The only thing I could find was a 12 x 12 square that had 6 x 6 black and white checkers on it but those would be too small.
I also found some ones with texture on it, but i am just looking for a basic gloss black & a basic gloss white.

I've tried home depot and lowe's. neither have it. I also tried some flooring places here but they don't carry the peel n stick since it is more of a DIY thing and they make money installing so it is pointless for them to carry it.

I am willing to buy online, so if anyone knows any places that would be great!
(I will def post pics when everything is all said and done!)

» 1950's Chambers Gas Stove, Sky Blue
Hi everyone! I have an awesome opportunity for anyone who's dreamed of having a vintage kitchen. Enter...my grandmother's 1950s stove. It's in excellent shape, fully functional, with 2 of the original 3 warming canisters included. It's located in Fort Worth, TX, but we've done some research on moving companies that will ship this antique so we're opening things up to a wider audience in the hopes that someone will give this beauty a happy new home. :)

I came across this art deco aluminum dish/jar with bakelite handle for only 3 bucks! It has 3 peg legs that are made out of wood and besides the aluminum being a bit scratched its in pretty good shape.

» Vintage Bathroom Help
My husband and I are remodeling our bathroom.  The house was built in the 1890s and the clawsfoot has long since been removed.  The bathroom had a shower stall from the 1970s and no tub.  Other than the space for a tub and the stall 75% of the built-ins and victorian features are still there.

I found a free 1930s drop in tub which we installed and turned into a shower/tub combo.  We want to give the bathroom a 1920-1940s feel since many of the house's features have been remodeled at about that time.  I am still searching for jadeite fixtures and accessories.

I would love to see some pictures of your vintage inspired bathroom for more ideas!  I'll post pictures of ours when we are done!

Cross posted for more fun pics and ideas!

» vintage appliances
I'm not sure if this is the place to post about this or not. What I want to do is buy a modern appliance and refinish it to look retro. Does anyone know of any DIY websites with instructions on how to make a fridge or stove look old? Has anyone attempted such a project themselves? I'm sure I could do it with the proper tools but I'm not sure where to begin.

Many thanks!
» Amazing new chair
Yesterday I found a reproduction women's sitting chair that looks almost exactly like my grandmother's authentic sitting chair. It was so cheap that I had to buy it, warts and all. It has a few problems, and I've got pictures under the cut. The overall condition is well worn, but it seems to have good bones. It's a wooden framed upholstered chair. The springs are hanging out the bottom because the webbing has all worn through. There is some sun damage to the wood on the back, and the velvet upholstery on the back is sort of...matted or flakey or something. I haven't taken it outside to brush yet, but I've got pictures.

I'm mainly posting because I'm looking for sites or advice on how to retie the springs and reweb it from the bottom without having to reupholster the whole thing. I bought it thinking it wouldn't too hard to fix, but then got it home and realized I can't afford to reupholster it now so I have to fix it from underneath, if that's possible (and I think it is).

See the chair: )So, any advice or how-to websites that might be handy for this?

Thanks!

» It is that time of year again...
almost.

I live in southeastern CT. The winters can be quite cold. This will be the first full winter living in this house. We have steam radiators, which I love.   I want to know your ways of utilizing the heat off of them.I have heard about putting some tin foil behind them to reflect the heat.  This ceramic piece even caught my eye.

Designer: Byung-seok You
As winter’s cold creeps in, we all revel in the little things to keep cozy. The Natural Wave is ceramic plate that fits over an old school radiator. The heated plate keeps your drinks and snacks warm without having to use additional power and energy like a microwave or oven. Pretty ingenious and if anything, it makes those old rusty radiators look a lot better.

Any suggestions, advice, tips, and/or crafty ideas welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Tina

» resurfacing/refinishing formica?
Hey all! We're finally closing on our house this coming Wednesday, and after scouring Craigslist I've found a kitchen table set that I would LOVE to have. I'm planning on buying it, but there's a problem. The tabletop is very faded.

I've seen a few things online saying you can buff them and whatnot, but I'm not sure if they're talking about the wood-style formica or the kind of table I've got. Here's a picture so you can see how dull it really is.

It doesn't necessarily have to be red, either. I'd be very happy with white, black, or even silver. If anyone has any ideas, I'd be supremely grateful. Thanks! :)
